Do gum grafts hurt? Pain from gum grafting?

Just got gum graft on a upper tooth and bottom middle tooth! All due to orthodontist procedures 😒 but yes it does hurt once the numbing wears off but with some hydroco and Tylenol snd good 24 hour sleep you should b fine lol 😂 the hard part is not being able to speak and not being able to eat! I can barely drink water but Imas long as I don’t lose a tooth I’m down with it

@RedFlyDragon lol not a pocket Bc it grows back.. but not fully. There is like a small curve inward where the square was cut out on my palate.

It hurts like hell! I've had 4 gum grafts. The procedure isn't bad but once the numbing wears off that's when the pain is brutal.

I don't like that an amnesiac is put in the anaesthesia. As you stated, a patient 'will not remember anything' but that doesn't mean pain won't be felt at the time. Sedaton IV drip? Just for relaxing not being knocked out? For me that only made me drowsy and less able to deal with the pain. But, sometimes we need to go through with difficult things for the end result.

I had a gum graft on both sides of bottom,front teeth. I call them my bottom fangs and the one side did great,but the other side did not do as well. Actually just 50% coverage. If I had a Periodontist closer to me,in N.C. I would’ve wanted to get the Pinhole technique,since I have around 10 teeth needed done. I just had my 3rd of 5 gum grafts. I wish they could do more than 2 teeth at a time. But this was a great video. I learned more from u than my own Periodontist.

My periodontist took my skin from the back of upper right quadrant where my back tooth is and sewed it to my lower front. The right side where the tissue was taken from is much more painful and swollen. I was given oral anesthetic only with the needle. I was given a brush I can barely fit in my mouth to brush the top of the teeth so I switched to a special tiny brush. I have the medicated rinse that tastes like apple cider vinegar, Amoxycillan 875mg every 12 hours, and asks me to take ibuprofen. Still hurts and fairly swollen 72 hours later. I apply an ice pack as needed. Only one tooth was done for the cost of $1880.00.

Gum graft is the worst dental procedure I’ve had done. I would rather get my wisdom teeth removed a second time. Worst part is the graft failed. Waste of my time, money, and discomfort.

I had a gum graft that took donor tissue from the roof of my mouth and placed it on the front of my bottom teeth, and I have been in the most extreme amount of pain I've ever experienced for about four days now. It hurts so bad that I haven't slept much in the last few days. It's slowly getting better, but it's much more painful than I expected it to be.

I had a gum graft on several teeth (also in the front) and didn't have pain at all. I didn't need painmeds on the evening of the operation and didn't have pain on the following days. Started eating liquid food on the morning after the operation (soup, smoothies, mashed beans, cooked and mashed vegetables ..). When i took the stent/palate plastic cover out to brush my teeth (i didn't brush on the wounded side) and used mouthwash i didn't feel any pain. The pinhole op was horrible, absolutely horrible, really really horrible and extremely painful compared to the gum graft. I don't know why some people write that their gum graft hurt so much. The operation is a bit scary but not really painful. The aftercare is inconvenient but not painful at all. If you want to know what horror and torture and pain feels like, go for a pinhole operation where they scrape the flesh off your whole bone and stretch it (didn't work for me and many other people). Now i know both operation types and i would always prefer the gum graft. I got a medical trauma from pinhole and i am telling everyone to go and try gum graft and stay far away from pinhole (it's false advertisement, it's not minimal invasive). I was scared of gum graft - the cut on the rooftop of the mouth is not bad at all. Just an inconvenience to put in the stent and take it out for brushing the teeth and put it in again (it should always be moist so the blood doesn't stick on it). It bled two little drops and stopped on the second day after the operation. It doesn't hurt at all. Eat cooked food like beans (throw the cooked beans in a mixer and make baby food) and cooked vegetables (mixed) and soup and creamy spinach, pudding without sugar. But don't eat porridge because it will stick to your teeth. If you let porridge dry on a plate it gets hard like a stone and you can't rinse it off with water. If you let mushed beans or cooked vegetables or soup dry on a plate and then rinse it under water, it will liquify again and rinse off.

Haven’t watched full video but I just had three areas done and it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. The part that hurts the worst is the site the tissue is harvested from on roof of mouth. Do not let anyone in the office tell you it feels like a pizza burn! And do not leave the office without Percocet because Norco does NOT cut it.

I had a gum graft and implant done and they put me under IV sedation. 10/10 recommend being put to sleep if you can! It was so smooth and comfortable 🙌🏻

Dr. Choi, would a patient with moderate bone lost be able to have a successful result with connective tissue gum graft procedure? The grafting site are upper back molars and lower molars.

I just had skin grafting surgery this past February i was fully awake with some laughing gas. They took skin from the roof of my mouth. From a pain scale i remember one really bad day and one really bad hour. Otherwise it was more annoying then anything. Probably the most annoying part was while the stitches from the top of my mouth were falling out and i would have a string hanging there. But comparing it to wisdom teeth i thought it was easier on a pain scale. I would do gum grafting again over wisdom teeth.

Just had one 6 days ago and the sensitivity pain that I've experienced is absolutely awful. My teeth are sensitive in general but now it's way worse. The right side of my teeth upper and lower sides is keeping me up at night and pain meds don't touch it. I feel like someone is spraying ice cold water directly onto my teeth. Is this common? My dentist seems to think it's not associated with the gum graft but it didn't start until after and it's on the same side as the tissue removed from the roof of my mouth.

You are probably experiencing nerve damage.The dentists that do these aren't going to say yes it's due to the procedure.

@@pablitoperez9109 I had a dental bone graft almost 5 months ago and was not informed by the dentist of all the risks.I still have some weird pain but it was painful for months after.It was infected after the first week and they wouldn't take it out.I saw other dentists and an oral surgeon and of course they said it wasn't due to the graft lol BS .I wanted it removed but no one would do it.I will NEVER get another and no way to an implant.I don't trust the dental field at all ! It's all about money not truly saving your teeth or your health.

Not just dental all health medical .They wanted to work on a nerve on my thumb once when I cut my finger on a slicer once... check this out when I get there it’s a guy who looked about 22-23 and he tells me it’s his first operation his fist few days officially on the field. I was outa there faster than a rabbit.
