Back out on the rocks fishing for cod on rough ground. We had a plan but the weather decided to make things as tricky as possible.

Fair play to you getting out on a night like that it's been a few years since I've done it but I've found night tides with rough weather can bring excellent fishing.

Eyup Nathan. If you can, please let your old mate Phill know that I wish him a Merry Christmas and a fishy new year. The best of everything to you and yours for the holiday and I'll sithi after. There you are - I never swore once that time. I did notice that everything got blown off except the cameraman and the sound engineer though. Nice work. Very professional I thought. 😇 🎄🎅🎣🐟🙂❤

Tried for Cod in the deep water marks in Co Clare Ireland a few times caught a few, but it's a tackle graveyard lol rotten bottoms, you'll still snag a swivel now and again between rocks. I'll persevere. Well done on a great clip again 👍

Nice video produced in naff conditions Nate' with a couple of decent fish thrown in. No jokes about having 'a little swell' or 'a rotten bottom' but, an unlikley tip for you. Try using your tripod the wrong way round. It takes half the effort to pull a conventionally used tripod over because the effort is being shared by two points of rotation ie, the two forward facing legs. So, when you have wind, waves or God forbid, a really good fish pulling against one leg facing out to sea, it will have to pull twice as hard to pull the tripod over. Simple physics lad. Don't know why I'm the only one doing it.

Makes total sense, I think you could have found a gap in the market there- the next great innovation in fishing tripods or an add-on to the original tripod🤔 All the best mate and tight lines

Great vid Slippy. Here’s my tripod tip, you’ve plenty already ! I’m a bit of a wuss for washing the grot off my hands after bating up, no problem on a rock edge wash your mitts in a rock pool, I bought a Korda collapsible bucket. Ideal for keeping fresh water handy on the pier. Added a longer throwing line on it. Also use it to hang under the tripod, works well. Well done for getting out there in the dark. Tight lines. Ivan

For the rod stand Nathan - carry an empty 2lt bottle or similar. Fill it in a rock pool and then hang the full bottle off the bait hook on the rod stand with a bit of line. That extra weight gives the stand much more rigidity. You can also just carry a piece of string and tie a rock to it and hang that. Anyway you get the drift.

Hi slippey, instead of using crimps at the top of your rig you could use a power gum knots, that way if you need to change hook or full snood, you xan slide the power gum knots down or up to keep the hook tight in your splashdown
@kevinbartlett1017

I use rubber bait stops, or a short piece of tubing in a granny knot. Both work well, and infinitely adjustable

@@kevinbartlett1017 it saves having to use a completely new rig. I can never tie a replacement snood to the right length once the crimps are in place.

Nice as usual Nathan, thank you, ps on the rod stands I had, at the top where the legs meet there was a hook to hang a weighted bag filled with rocks which stopped the rest being blown by putting pressure on the legs, yours not got that?

I've asked John lock if he's fished snaggy areas where he does his foraging and flat out NOPE too snaggy and although I agree its a pain in the ass snagging but my local beach is shelves rocks 🪨 slate and shingle and although I do lose atleast one rig per session if I rotten bottom and stick to areas where I know what it's like after the tide covers it I do OK I've had big huss, dogs Pollack theirs flounder (won't get into the flatfish issue) but for the variety I say losing the odd lead/rig is worth it also I usually go there bait collecting and find the lost rigs.
