How to get better at chess: 1) Learn the qualities of chess, like connected Rooks, pairs of Bishops, protected past pawns, etc... 2) In theory Chess is a drawn game, therefore there are no ways of checkmating your opponent with correct play by both sides. Therefore try to make a plan of how to get connected past pawns instead of trying too hard to checkmate your opponent which on correct play should be impossible... 3) ... that being said, checkmate threats should always be there and a plan to acquire them should be created, as these checkmate threats when being defended will yield chances of creating the goal of rule number 2) - connected past pawns . 4) Keep your pawns connected and don't execute a plan that might ruin your pawn structure even if that plan might win material, that extra material might not last for long as your entire structure collapses 5) There are 8 things you can be up or down in chess at any given position. a) Time b) Tempo c) Pieces d) Evaluation e) Space f) Initiative g) Calculation h) Focus. Just knowing these 8 things exist will make you more humble when thinking of yourself as a chess player, making it easier for you to evaluate your play at any given moment. 6) People make mistakes. A Grandmaster playing versus a supercomputer with piece odds can easily lose, that effect is even stronger as we go down the Elo stairs. That being said, nobody should resign until all hope is lost. There is always a way to comeback from any position, which is, after all, what makes Chess so beautiful.
@ToriKo_5 жыл бұрын
NUKE could you explain d, f, g and h?
@Laola975 жыл бұрын
@@ToriKo_ That would be nice actually.
@-_Nuke_-5 жыл бұрын
@@ToriKo_ Yes! d) Evaluation That's the theoretical knowledge about your position... If for example you are +5 you might be winning most of the times, but then again that doesn't mean anything on its own. There are many positions that you are +5 and you can't move anything or you just blundered into mate and there is nothing that you can do... f) Initiative We see that example in the fried liver for example (just an example that everyone is familiar with) when white plays Ng5 then d5 then exd5 and black plays Na5 defending... white then follows Bb5+ then c6 (or bd7) dxc6, bxc6 and Bd3 (or Qf3)... Basically black is still a little bit better even though he's down a pawn because he has the initiative. Black basically took white's role. From here on black will be pushing and white will be defending, black has the initiative because it's only him that can decide how the game will go from there and if black can keep that initiative going he will equalise material and even get a winning position. He is a pawn down only momentarily, though if white plays correctly the game should still end in a draw. So my point is that it doesn't matter that white is up a pawn - white cannot relax and say "ok I'm up a pawn I'll just exchange all my pieces and win" because his knight is hangin, he hasn't castled and black has developed 2 pieces and 2 pawns and has all the diagonals oppen for his 2 bishops and Queen plus an open b for his rook and white has NOTHING! White is completely undeveloped... That's good enough to suggest that black has the initiative in the fried liver (for example...) Theoreticaly, White has the initiative before the start of each chess game, because he plays first. That's why grandmasters prefer White because if only you can decide how the game will go, you are getting an easier position, though that initiative might not last for long if White makes an even minor mistake and gets punished... d) Calculation That's how many moves you have calculated vs your opponent... You being down in calculation means that your opponent at any given variation that you might be up material he is up on how many moves ahead he has calculated. If you are always calculating less moves into the future than your opponent then being up material doesn't mean anything as your opponent might be tricking you h) Focus Is how tired you are... The older someone gets, the easier is for him or her to lose focus... So you can be down in focus in chess and you should always take that into the account of how "better" or "worse" you are in any given position
@ojsojs60045 жыл бұрын
There are positionS where ruin pawn structure is okay cause you have something in return. It might be activity or bishop pair. In chess there is dynamic Vs static chess advantage.

Danny, I remember you doing similar analyses of two or three Blitz WCh games (¿I think?) quite some time ago, and I really enjoyed those. Not having seen anything similar since, I am very happy to see you giving this a go again. I do realize these are much more work than simply playing blitz yourself with commentary on the fly ... but this is soo much more instructional. I can tell you prepared well for the presentation, and your understanding of what's going on in the game is clearly evident. I also think that the way you present this, it will help intermediate and advanced players alike. The viewer obviously needs to pay close attention for the whole ten minutes, or if necessary re-watch it, but I believe I could do a lot worse than this to try and improve my game, while this at the same time is really entertaining. Cheers - please keep 'em coming!
@BadHabitMarco7 жыл бұрын
I would also really enjoy the same format for a rapid game like those in Paris, Leuven, or Leon. It might be too much work though (?), and I'm unsure whether the average viewer has the patience for a 45-60 minutes video like this. Maybe longer periods of thinking by the players could be edited out in some way. Just a suggestion - I also wonder what other channel viewers think of my idea.

There should be an indicator that shows whether the pieces being moved on the board are for analysis or the players are actually moving them. I get confused with the fast, back and forth moving pieces and end up missing actual moves.
@eduardoayala32044 жыл бұрын
Well, for the major part of the video the highlighting really does wonders, but I imagined a miniature of the actual match while showing a long demonstration of an alternative path or calculated predictions. Although since the image and movements correlate, if the pieces on the screen move but they are still staring the board I know it's not the real "live" match xD but oh well
