I've read that the John Lennon D chord you spoke about was taught to him by his mother Julia. She taught him the banjo and that D chord shape is a banjo chord (apparently).

My parents had the red and the blue album. For some reason they took the stereo outside to our back patio. The blue Album spent the winter outside and got buried under the snow. One day I picked it up off of the patio in early spring. I took it in and wiped it off and put it on to see if it still played. I’ve been a Beatle freak ever since. That was 1982.

You can play it differently this way. You know that sort of C chord slide from Man On The Moon? Hold the B string 1st fret and A string 3rd slide up two frets and up another 2 frets back and forwards. Then a G chord with strings held picking the tune. Then the chorus, think it's G minor, E string, B string and G hold all at 3rd fret playing on and off G3rd to 5th. To a proper C chord. Then a D7.

Great lesson - again- .....Address -to all - Do you prefer standard acoustic or acoustic-electric guitars? Does an acoustic - electric guitar compromise the sound when played acoustically?

The “John Lennon D” is still just D but you’re getting the 3rd, 5th, 1st, and 3rd notes from the chord instead of the 1st, 5th, 1st, and 3rd. Maybe by doubling down on the (major) 3rd like that, it sounds more...major?

Wonderful. Bet John played it on that 64 Framus 12-String (seen in "Help!"). Ray Davies also played one during that era, including on "See My Friends", a possible influence here and certainly on Pete's "The Good's Gone". Also a Beatle tune with the authorship confusingly disputed - right after the breakup John said he wrote it all, but later said the middle Dm section was by Paul - who later said he wrote that section and threw in the "I lit a fire" bit.
@jamesjames92753 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Doesn’t sound like a 12 to me at all. In the intro, I don’t hear octave strings.
@JDrevolver663 жыл бұрын
@@jamesjames9275 You're absolutely right- I hadn't properly listened for that in the intro! thought I heard them in verse though. Dunno how reliable Walter Everett's book is, but per wiki he has George with 12-String on the track as well as the sitar. Guess John's main acoustic was the J-160E until he picked up the D-28.

Hey James! A fellow Shakey fan. Based on the break with the George commentary, curious if you ever bought a NY Pono with the studio quality? If no, do you think vinyl is still best sound source today? One more comment, riff also seems in style of Oh lala later on, a great PT channel lesson :)

hey james! this has nothing to do with this lesson but i just need some advice .I been playing guitar for 3 years now (i’m 17 right now) i’m self taught and i know how to play all these chords and know a good amount of solos but the problem is I don’t know what a pentatonic scale is or what key is what ,do u recommend me to get a teacher for this ?thanks for the tutorials man ,ur a great teacher!

Look up how to play the minor pentatonic scale on KZbin. It's actually quite easy. The blues scale is based off it.
