so i just realized!!!!! the reference to the clock striking midnight references the doomsday clock!! it "is a [metaphorical clock] for threats to humanity from unchecked scientific and technical advances" (taken from wikipedia). midnight symbolizes how close we are to a global catastrophe. the doomsday clock is evaluated again each year in January. a quick google search says that we are currently (from the time im typing this) **100 seconds away from reaching midnight.**

Out of all the specters so far, this one most resembles a nightmare. The reference to “Bring Me Down” is perfect since this apocalypse is like many of the final battles found in video games: blood red sky, enemy at their strongest, and you are the last hope for the world. It’s creepy to think how such extremes could have too much in common with our own reality.
