I’ve never got why Azurill is a normal (or normal fairy in later gens) instead of a water type. Also, Mega Gardevoir somewhat looks like it’s wearing a wedding dress, and Mega Shiny Gardevior wears a black dress to reference a funeral dress to contrast this. Swan Lake, though I’ve never seen it or even heard of it, could be another possible inspiration (I say another because most Pokemon have multiple inspirations).

"positive" (hot) wire: typically red, sometimes brown (old) "negative" (cold) wire: typically blue or black, sometimes grey (old) Ground wire, when present: green or green & yellow, rarely just yellow. If their shiny colors hadn't been picked at random or by an algorithm, Plusle should have gotten brown and Minun either black or grey as their secondary color.

It might be worth nothing, but I did notice a small detail with Plusle and Minun. Gen 3 introduced both Plusle and Minun, as well as natures. Natures will increase one stat, and decrease one stat (sometimes the same stat, hence neutral natures). Well, in later generations, if a stat was boosted by nature, it was red, like Plusle (the plus Pokemon). If a stat was lowered by nature, it was blue, like Minun (the minus Pokemon). I question whether or not there's some greater significance to this, or if it's just coincidence.

Their colors are Red and Blue because those colors are commonly associated with + and -, positive and negative, one end of a magnet and the other end of the magnet. The nature colors are the same as them for the same reasons

When red vs blue appear together on a single pokemon or in pairings as an opposing/complimentary element, they seem to always turn yellow vs green. Except in Minun and Plusle because the yellow was already present, so the red lingers in that instance. It reminds me very much of the color scheme in Korean temples, and also references the original Pokemon games and starters. Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.

Clamperl is a fish egg, which appear pink~red normally. The Evolution Items change the ACTUAL Biology of the Evolutions: - With the "Deep Sea Tooth", the egg hatches and the fish is given LONG TEETH, and the sheel-like bits are left over from the Pre-Evolution. - With "Deep Sea Scale" however, the Egg doesn't grow/gain teeth, so it grows a PROBOSCIS-like mouth (like a butterfly or mosquito). It's shell-like bits become like a "bra", and the ACTUAL Deep Sea Scale becomes the tail fin!

True Fact: The reason why most of the water types are pink is because of sunburn, Wailord and Wailmer being based on the Blue Whale actually has light skin which is tanned during their summer sojourns before migrating back to their northern feeding grounds. The Spheal line mainly because walrus spend most of their lives out in the sun. For Sharpedo, sharks have tan lines as to why sharks evolved the ability to tan. To other fish, sunburns can cause skin cancer which could mean why Sharpedo doesn't have it's other half.

Interesting observation about Deoxys’ shiny colours: DNA is made up of combinations of four distinct chemicals called nucleobases. The four nucleobases are Guanine, Cytosine, Thymine, and Adenine. In many diagrams and illustrations, the four nucleobases are each given a colour to identify them. Though which particular colour is associated with which nucleobase can vary, the colours used are almost always the same - red, blue, green, and yellow. Normal Deoxys is red and blue, to match two of the nucleobases, and shiny Deoxys is yellow and green to match the other two!

I always figured Torkoal's shiny colours were to make it look more like a clay furnace. Torkoal itself is based on a tortoise mixes with a stone furnace (despite not being Fire/Rock), which is a common type of furnace in media. The other common type is a clay furnace and clay is kind of yellow-y brown. The pink rock colour on Torkoal's shell could be to reference the brick reinforcement some clay furnaces have, with red bricks being chosen to divert from the original grey. I think this is clearer in the gen3 sprites, as the current colours are desaturated. But that might just be me.

About absol: I always thought it was because of ying and yang symbols. Most of them are just black and white, like regular absol, but it’s not wholly uncommon for bright red to be added as well, either as the dots, or just downright replacing one of the original colors.

For Swablu and Altaria; their shiny forms turn yellow because they're also based off a canary, the most common color of which, is yellow.

Based on the name, the big mouth, and the blobby appearance, I would guess that gulpin and swallot are based on members of the psychrolutidae family, like the blobfish or blob sculpin (I mean come on: sculpin->gulpin). The whole family contains jelly like lethargic fish with big mouths, which is pretty similar to gulpin and swalot. That would also explain gulpins little feather thing, which doesn't resemble any slug. They are the fleshy protrusions that many blobfish have to feel their environment. Gulpin and swalots hands also resemble the family's round fins. So the blue color could relate to their aquatic origins

Plusle and Minun are definitely red and blue to signal the north and south poles of a magnet, which are usually colored red on positive and blue on negative.

Fun fact with the Walrein line: Walrus' will come out and sunbathe as the seasons change and the arctic warms up. When they get too hot, their skin pushes blood to their skins' surface to cool them down. As a result, their bodies turn a bright pink!

Crazy idea; Deoxys has its colors based loosely on Goku. Surprisingly the 2 have some similarities; both come from space, both change forms (in 2 of Deoxys' forms they get spikier,) and both of their signature moves are energy blasts. Goku is known for his orange gi and his transformation into a Super Saiyan. And when he transforms his hair turns yellow, and his eyes turn a bluish green. All these colors line up with Deoxys' regular and shiny forms, including the secondary colors of the tendrils which are blue and green.

I think of Registeel’s shiny as Mythril, a fictional metal that is generally depicted as stronger, yet lighter than steel. It is generally depicted as a light green color.

I am LOVING this series of videos! My fav gen 3 shinies have got to be Treecko’s line, Swablu and Altaria, mainly because I was able to successfully hunt one in horde encounters in a recent ORAS playthrough. 🙌🙌

Shiny Plusle and Minun are actually really cool, because the specific light green and dark red are direct inverses of each other, like the opposite charges!
