I agree, halls in no way is the be all and end all; I mostly hated the floor i lived with and i felt a lot of pressure with constantly being surrounded by people, and I agree I've made some of the best friends I've ever met. I lived alone my second year and I don't regret that, however the money is also a big factor in that; I paid £625 a month to live alone in Canterbury but it was right for me at that time. x

This was really helpful, I’m starting as a fresher in September and there was no space in halls left. I was really upset but now I’m going down a different path and renting out a building that will have other students (they may not all be freshers) I’m really nervous but I think it’s the best choice

sophie-anne I can totally understand why you’re nervous! But I honestly think your experience will be fantastic regardless, halls aren’t everything! I’ve made some of the best friends of my entire life at uni and didn’t meet a single one of them through my living situation. Good luck!!! ❤️

how did it go?

This was really helpful thank you! I’m choosing to live at home for my first year which I know for me ,the pros outweigh the cons. I’m just a really shy person so I’m just worried I’ll struggle making friends. I’ve kept the same friendship group through high school and college so I’ve haven’t had to make any new friends for a while. Idk, maybe ultimately it will make me a better person if I’m having to put effort into making friends rather than it coming naturally in halls!

Holly Paton Hey. It went ok! I have made course friends & I do feel I would have made closer friends living in halls but I also didn’t join societies/clubs or anything which would have improved the social aspect. I have a good support network from my family and some college friends at home still so it works for me. I’ve saved so much money too. Good luck!

Thanks for the mention, I picked up after all four of you and don't feel bad, my dad picked up after me quite a lot.

My head's been baffled for weeks wanting to go uni In September struggling to decide whether to commute or not I struggle with social anxiety so living in halls is quite a fear for me right now

I have to go private since I've a pet snake nobody at home wants to look after for me and Halls everywhere dont allow pets. I've been a bit worried about it but this video is really helpful!

Does anyone know does living privately make going out harder? I don't plan on going on nights out much but the thought of travelling alone at night when everyone else is travelling together puts me off a bit

heya would really appreciate if you could answer my question but did you still get your student loan, the one for living costs? x
@florrietownsend54696 жыл бұрын
Did you still get a full maintenance loan despite not living in halls? I'm planning to do the exact same with my fiancé, i retook a year and halls don't suit me at all. The pros weigh out the cons completely!
@JustDeenie6 жыл бұрын
Florrie Townsend yep got the full maintenance loan! Not sure if you have applied to student finance yet but there are different options for living outside of halls - I think the option I selected was ‘private rented accommodation (living away from home)’ or something along those lines and I believe it’s considered in the same way as Uni accom, don’t quote me on that though! Hope everything goes fabulously for you! x

@@JustDeenie currently just applying so haven't done anything to do with finance yet! Sounds perfect, thank you!

Hey there, great video! I'm currently looking to move in to private accommodation with my girlfriend for our first years too, as we're both looking at Liverpool-based universities. Did you have to deal with disappointed/disapproving parents when you decided? If so, how did you deal with that? Thanks for all your advice! (I'll extend the question to anyone else who has experience in this too as all help is appreciated!)

I have a few questions as I need to do this to, when did you start looking at places and move there? When does your student loan come in? Please please reply, I’m stressing so much 😂❤️
