Unrequited love is the worse…but to be fair Calypso created the relationship in her own mind. Still…it sucks for her to be so isolated. I love that you show as much appreciation for the animation artists as you do for the music..absolutely wonderful! Thank you☺️♥️‼️

I didn’t feel sorry for her at all honestly until I heard someone say in actual mythology that while calypso was banished to the island she was also cursed to fall in love with anyone that lands there and she also didn’t intentionally make her island unknown I think that was part of the person who banished her but it did change my perspective on how I felt about her

Its interesting to see calypso in this take, cause she's not by any way blameless, but you can understand where she's coming from. Yes, her idea of love is toxic, but its aleo the only the only she's known, and this experience is necessary for her to be better, no matter, or even because of how heartbreaking it is.

Idk how unpopular this opinion is but I am really happy you're reacting to animatics as opposed to the stream visuals. Don't get me wrong, those are great and definitely worth watching in your own time, but I don't think they're the best choice for blind reactions honestly. And there are already so many amazing animatics out for even this new saga that cover the songs fully, so I'm really happy. Although maybe it would be better to react to the next three songs in one video, since all three of them lead directly into each other; cutting between any of them feels really jarring tbh. I would 100% be down for a hour long video of the three final songs! For the next three songs I would recommend-- Charybdis by Lemonpoet Get in the water by MessyMoonMess Six Hundred Strike by Duvetbox

I actually don't like her six hundred strike animwtic because it doesn't potray what happens very accurately and I feel kinda removes some of the cool thematic stuff six hundred strike had.

(Leaving the actual comment on the reaction in a separate comment because it feels more organized idk) For the first song ... idk why these animators chose to portray Odysseus hugging her, but I feel like I should mention that canonically, he doesn't. My stance on Calypso is, "What she says here doesn't make up for what she did because she doesn't actually take proper accountability, but I feel sorry for her." From her perspective, it’s understandable why she became so attached to him so fast, but that doesn’t excuse or make her actions or attitude justifiable (in Love in Paradise, she did borderline harass Odysseus, though it seems there wasn’t anything more severe than what was shown on screen. She is still claiming him as "hers" and thinking she is "entitled to him" just because he washed up on her island.) I understand that she grew up alone without anyone to teach her how to act around others, I also understand that she had 7 years with Odysseus when she had every opportunity to learn, yet she is still primarily selfish in her "love" for him ... which is pretty normal for a goddess but Athena showed us last saga that gods CAN learn to love selflessly. I sincerely hope she her situation improves and/or she can find some other company, but when she says things like "I'm sorry my love's too much for you," it comes across as really manipulative. "I had no friends but the sky and sun" ... Okay, but you never asked him to be your friend; I am pretty sure he would have been 100% fine with friendship. She is pretty much blaming Odysseus for his "inability to love her" rather that actually admitting that she is not entitled to him and that his choice to not love her romantically is perfectly valid, as it is his choice to make. These 7 years could have been a far worse experience for him, yes (in the actual Odyssey for example, it is heavily implied that Calypso SA's Odysseus, which according to Jorge doesn't happen in EPIC.) Considering that, after so much time, it’s understandable that he might feel some attachment to her-probably some kind of a trauma bond. There's also the possibility that he just said "I love you" as a way of placating her without actually meaning it. Does she deserve to stay alone for the rest of her immortal life? No. Is she entitled to feeling the emotions she is right now? Yes. She's a morally complex character who still has a lot to learn. The main thing I believe is that her portrayal is slightly too one-sided (positive) in this song. But maybe that's because Odysseus didn't say much, which I kind of understand as well from his pov. I just would have loved a more clear portrayal of how she is both a sympathetic victim but also still hasn't redeemed herself or changed her attitude whatsoever. I actually animated that song myself and I tried to balance those two in that animatic, in case anyone here wants to see

I agree! Iunderstand her situation and I don't agree with a lot of fans defending her saying 'the worse she did was harassment' like no besides that she kept him prisoner for 7 years, he nearly committed suicide because of all the deaths and saw no way of going home. Ppl saying she was a kid when she was trapped there don't remember she's not human, she's immortal what's young to her could be centuries to us, she out of touch yes I agree I feel sad for her but doesn't excuse what she did in any of her depictions even now she was forced to let him go even as he was leaving when he tried to talk she spoke over him "Let me speak" her whole song came across as manipulative, I'm glad ody got to leave and I do hope she will treat the next person on her island better

I appreciate that you're just reacting to what's presenting to us in Epic. There are some Epic fans kinda seeing the worst in Calypso based on the source material which Jorge has strayed from multiple times already. She was absolutely way too pushy which she apologised for but honestly not much more than that has been presented to us.
