The lubrication is an interesting point. The journals are toleranced so the oil pressure creates a hydrostatic bearing. The sliding blocks are open sided & can't make a hydrostatic bearing. Wonder how they are going to solve that....
@vitordelima Жыл бұрын
There is a change you can make to the Scotch Yoke so it becomes more similar to a gear (toothed) and don't need all of this B.S., but this wasn't used in this engine.
@lassikinnunen3 ай бұрын
If you feed oil through the crank as you do into the sliding blocks they can have oil pressure from within to keep the oil film on their surfaces. Not that it makes it better than a spinny spinny and in that path you'll have an another oil bearing transferring the rotation. Lightweight rods seems just so much easier and more sensible thing to chase for high rpm engine and look 4 and 3 cyl engines being smooth is a solved problem

He has never heard of fork and blade con rods, as used in the DB605. I have been saying for over a decade that an engine designed as a generator around a set rpm and power output would be much better than a variable speed variable load engine as most cars have. You dont need this style of engine to do it though. Back in the 80's the CSIRO experimented with ceramics MgPSZ and made pistons and cylinders from the material. They allegedly achieved up to 60% efficiency.

To be honest, with the lack of news and announcements from them over the decades, I thought they had quietly folded, disappeared and given up! Obviously they don't have the research funding of a major car company, but I do hope they made some progress over the last 20 years. P.S. I just had a dig through some old backups and I found a couple PDFs and low-res video dated 2006. Can upload if interested.
