I’ve been a boat owner all my life and I am 67 years old. You’re doing an awesome job on your boat. Especially the transom, I think your transom will last forever.

We complain about the heat down South , but , If I was going to do this I would be thankful it could be done outside during the winter warm gaps we have ! You are doing a far better job than the original boat manufacturer ! Your videos will bring value both to the work that was done and a testament to the boats integrity when you sell it . Later in life your kids & grand kids can be entertained on what Daddy or Grandpa did while he was young ! Lol

Mike!! You did a *phenomenal* job my friend. Fiberglass is a P.I.T.A to work with. Even the pros struggle more than you did. I really like how you rounded the edge. The spark plug boot was a nice touch as well. I'm also glad you put the strap to use. Hope you're doing well. Take care and happy wrenching 🙂👍

Missed you also ! Lol. Nothing wrong with the way you did it ( I’ve done 5 of them so far ) and don’t worry about it coming apart , the transom is probably the strongest part of the boat now ! Don’t get to big on the drain holes because you still need the plug to be water tight ! Pay no attention to the people who say it’s wrong because it’s not , a bit unconventional but you reached the same goal and I always do the outside , the inside is cramped and harder to do the edges ! 👍

Great vid! I'm also a first time boat guy as far as doing anything like this-or outboards, grew up with homebuilt wood with inboards. My 2 CC's don't need anything done. My skiff, I spend most of my time in the bays in, does need some flooring. No soft spots but I think a couple spots are thinning. Never touched glass so I put it off the entire last year. Watching you do the transom as a first timer with glass, it's going to get done now. Thanks for the vid and all the pointers!

That is a very good looking boat project Sir. I have been working a few times fixing older smaller leisure boats, both wooden and fiberglass. I feel it is a pity that many good fiberglass boats have become a total maintenance&fix disaster because of rotten wood hull stringers and transom, while the rest of the boat is Ok. I get that material choice was not that wide some 40-50 years ago, but fiberglass does last a very long time. One of my "ships" is a 1973 vintage 13ft open with a rotten transom, as it is, only good as a rowing boat or run with a small engine. And I can not toss the boat in the bin.

Nice tidy job there. I would have made a hell of a mess if I attempted that. Probably would have gone down like the Titanic me repairing the boat. Hope you get a good run on the water with it.

i once bought a old runabout from the 50's and replaced the floor stringers and transom in it. i think id rather take a boat out to the middle of the lake and put a 6 inch hole saw threw the bottom than do that again....lol

Normally I don't criticize people but I'm going to criticize you I've done a hundred transoms I've done a lot of fiberglass in my life first of all you got to soak the fiberglass mat in resin when you put it on if that stays I'll be surprised number two you spray coat on gel coat you hardly ever rolled on and if you do roll it on you don't sand in between coats after you get it on real thick your wet sand and buff it I think if you would have googled how to do a transom and how to do gel coat you would have figured out it would have been a lot better sorry like I said I don't mean to criticize but I don't think that's going to last maybe one or two years but it will come apart
@NOT_FOR_HIRE2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the criticism. If I get 5 seasons out of this boat I'd be very happy. Only time will tell if your right or not.
