Thanks for the great video, I really enjoy your videos they are very descriptive and clear. I am fairly new to four wheel driving used to have a ford f150 4x4 took it off road on occasion, I recently bought a 2020 ford ranger 4x4 it is stock except for some A/T tires and have been looking for trails I can do with a stock truck. I want to keep my truck stock for at least a year so I don't get myself in over my head.

I had a white knuckle time in my stock tundra 4x4 of course I took the wrong trail through a narrow Boulder filled canyon but I survived without any damage even though I did ride the frame rails a few times. Still a pretty good day.

other than the wash toward the end, is there a connection to burns canyon road / 2N02? I'm trying to plan an offroad trip from Lucerne Valley through Baldwin Lake and ending down in Pioneer town.
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon 4 жыл бұрын
The only way to Burns Canyon Rd is via the end of Rattlesnake Canyon, or by way of Mottino Wash, which is a bit bumpy.. Burns Canyon does go out to Baldwin Lake, but you would then have to turn around and backtrack several miles, back to near Rattlesnake Canyon, then out to Pioneer Town, as Baldwin Lake and Pioneer Town are in opposite directions from the end of Rattlesnake Canyon
@jamesngotts
@jamesngotts 4 жыл бұрын
NotaRubicon Productions ok thanks, sorry I misspoke a bit, I’ve done the pioneer town to big bear trail and take it to the 18 in Baldwin Lake. Does rattlesnake canyon trail link up in that area where 3n03 splits from 2n02? I’m trying to map it out on AllTrails but they dont have a link between the two trails shown.

Yes you can! We stopped on Viscera Spring Road.. you can take that all the way into Big Bear or Pioneer Town and it's all flat easy dirt-road.

This is Easy to Moderate on other sites. Are you making up ratings for your trail videos or using some standard?
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon 4 жыл бұрын
There is no good (in our opinion) standardized or way to measure a trail - especially when the trails change often due to traffic and weather, so we base our rating on our experience. This is also why we generalize the ratings like "easy" or "moderately difficult" instead attempting to use a 'standardized' numbered system. Unlike many other sites, not only have we run this trail ourself almost 20 times, both up and down, we have also led several groups of Jeeps and other 4x4 vehicles ranging in size from 10 vehicles to 25 vehicles, mostly all "beginner" drivers - so in our estimation, based on our experience this is an "easy" trail. However it is important to keep in mind that one mans "difficult" is another mans "easy" - and visa-versa depending on vehicle, skill level, etc..

Depending on what you drive, and how well (or not well) you can drive it, i would expect 2-3 hours, unless you dilly dally.

What do you think about a PreRunner doing this trail? 2wd with a rear diff lock
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon 3 жыл бұрын
This trail is not recommended for any 2WD vehicle as they would likely struggle in the rough spots, but it really depends on the skill-level of the driver...

Would it be easy doable on stock height crossover, like Subaru outback?
@TheNotaRubicon
@TheNotaRubicon 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends more on the off-road skills of the driver, than the vehicle - but with a skilled 4x4 driver behind the wheel, it is probably doable.

Its funny watching jeeps on the trail I usually only watch long enuff to pass them I'm doing 25-35 mph there doing 5 lol and I'm in a 20 year old station wagon and usually haulin a load of fire wood lol I've bent 4 struts snaped a coil spring Sheered a ball joint and lost a front tire and gotten a few flat tires but I'm outhere about once a week getting wood and usually overloaded on the way back so I expect some damage

Thats because the guys in Jeeps usually aren't assholes, and are also smart enough to drive a safe and appropriate speed so they don't break anything. Bragging about being stupid just makes you look... Stupid......
