One of your videos popped up on my feed so I started watching and I LOVE it!! I'm a subscriber of channels like VGG, Pole Barn Garage, NoNonsenseKnowHow and Junkyard Digs...... All of which are from the States. Your the 1st European car channel I've subscribed to only because I didn't think I'd like a British channel, guess I was wrong.

You are doing the right thing by swapping over the ancillaries. You've seen the changes in just a couple of years between the engines. I would fit a new clutch because it is easier to do with the engine out of the car, it shouldn't cost all that much more, it will be peace of mind for the next owner (you're thinking of selling the car), and you can ask for a bit more when you do sell it.

Metric bolts on cars over M6 are generally a finer pitch thread. The hardest part about changing an engine is deciding to give it a go. Good on ya 👍🏻
@NotEconomicallyViable2 жыл бұрын
Cheers, Ben. I didn't know that about the bolts. When I did the Mini they were M12 but had a coarse thread, so that's what confused me

@0:11 Yes, there is the "penny pincher" twinair and there is the "beats even the bigger engine in terms of performance and fuel consumption" twinair. Funny enough, there is next to no difference in terms of fuel consumption to the "penny pincher" twinair.

Nino it looks to me like FIAT did ‘cost down’ process. So things that were initially metal have been changed to plastic - cheaper and connections/controls removed that aren’t needed. Very common 👍
@stumac8692 жыл бұрын
A lot of electronic engine devices are coded so probably best stick to the original components so there's no issues with the ECU not recognising them.

There's normally a hole in the bellhousing and a hole in the back of the flywheel that the holes marry up and the locking tool slots into them to lock the flywheel the hole in the bellhousing could be under a plug or just a random bolt that unscrews easy enough to find out just look on the back of the flywheel to see if there is a blind hole drilled into it.
@richiec90772 жыл бұрын
That's right mate there's a little slot cut out on the bell housing for that pin to go in

Yay Gloves!! Good job well done, looks like you're doing the right thing but think about doing the clutch - even from a sales point of view New Turbo, New Clutch,New Cam belt - Arn't those the things that would make you spend a little more on the car, knowing your not going to have to do them? ( and breaks) most likely to be going to someones first car? Maybe Mum & Dad will be buying? Maybe?? - worth a thought

I love how Panther helps out and gets in the videos so is he paid in Dreamies.. I’ve got to do a water pump plus an crank position sensor and this evening a window regulator now the window is stuck in the down position on one of my old fleet. Whenever I get the tools out my two kittens are on top of the engine bay and my neighbours two cats across the road come and help and one of them lost my 10mm by knocking it off the cam cover lol.

Looking good on engine change👍at moment you got old engine with hopefully the fiat different thread pitch bolts somewhere on it for crane....try the engine mount bolts? Not sure about the fiat twin air engine but on vw's they don't like the butterfly in throttle body being moved when cleaning(need resetting sometimes) agree with clutch change comments, if its on the bench/grass in your case, change it...nice to see you are building confidence up,remember....it's just a collection of bits and bolts/screws......and re your comments on audi r6 ....recently watched a video on someone doing timing chains on one......frightening😳complexity and sheer cost....full engine out...big beast of a thing, 10k upwards!!. Good luck again. Bill

New clutch would make a good selling point ? And I will say hello 👋 at Bicester 👍, I will be the angry looking one 🤓 !
@chrispop992 жыл бұрын
I would never, ever put an old clutch back. You can't evaluate the life of the pressure plate, or the springs in the friction plate. The last time it was replaced, perhaps the release bearing wasn't replaced, and will fail soon. A clutch kit will be sub-£100; do you want to risk pulling it to bits again for that?

The Twinair got a 105bhp available from the 85bhp that was originally released.
@NotEconomicallyViable2 жыл бұрын
Ahh nice one. Did that engine ever appear in the 500? Or was it mainly for Alfas and the bigger Fiats? 105bhp in a non-Abarth 500 would make it dreamy
@chrisktm20102 жыл бұрын
The main block and head assembly will most probably be the same. Swap all your ancillary parts on to the new engine that way it should all connect up as it should.
@philtowle46832 жыл бұрын
Fiat's and alfas are always a nightmare for parts compatibility. I have bought many parts that say they won't fit and they do.

Hello i have a twinair engine also i want to clean the throttle body as i thought the oil going to my intake. Is that easy to remove from the engine?
@HCrawf2 жыл бұрын
Understand your position re clutch but I would think about replacing - as others have said it’s an excellent selling point, plus you’ve dropped it in oil, plus it’s 10x easier with engine out, plus it can’t be mega expensive for an engine that small, surely? Shame I’m oop north otherwise I’d pop along tomorrow. If you’re ever in Manchester give us a shout! EDIT: scratch that, £170 from Eurocarparts...but still, think about replacing
@branislavb99076 ай бұрын
Does anyone have any information on how heavy this engine is? I found it weighs about 85 kg but I don't know if that is with or without the gearbox?
@pdtech45242 жыл бұрын
There are 2 versions of the Twinair, an 85bhp most common and a 105bhp version, more common in the Fiat 500 range, which does have a different intake manifold, amongst other changes. Also there are Twinairs in other makes and models such as the Alfa Romeo Mito, which might have different ancillaries etc.
@NotEconomicallyViable2 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. I think I've got some other differences where the car is a Pop and doesn't have AC, so the aux belt is a lot shorter and the bracket doesn't need to hold as many ancillaries
@pdtech45242 жыл бұрын
@@NotEconomicallyViable Interesting yours are both 85bhp units but have several differences like inlet manifolds and ancillarys etc There's maybe an earlier and later version and like you say one of yours is without aircon. The clutch is a serious dilemma I'm sure when it looks so good. The friction plate might look little worn but how do you know how good the pressure plate is from just looking at it. @billcunningham84852 жыл бұрын
Hey Nino - first of all - does your lovely fiancé watch these videos? If yes, you may want to keep the car parts off the garden furniture. You might get "the look". It is the same look I got from my wife when she saw me deep cleaning interior parts (center console) of one of my Mini R53 in our kitchen sink. I will tell you that look from your loved one bruises the soul. Secondly - at 17:25 you mention that (paraphrasing here) KZbin is a lopsided relationship. One thing that some US based just starting out KZbinrs have done to bridge this gap is establish a "closed" or member only FaceBook Group for the KZbin channel. My experience is more interaction between the publisher (you) and viewers. With FB it is possible to see more about the viewers if they are active on social media. I would also suggest adding an Instagram account separate from your personal account but link to that FB group so posts appear in both places - saving some duplication effort. The other upside of the FB Group is it another venue / avenue to promote the publishing of the videos and the ability to post images and short video clips along the way to just the member group each week. The downside - you have to manage a FB group - which is a bit like going to the dentist - daily. Often not awful but there a a dozen places you would rather be... Just a thought.
