Fake Giveaway Servers are getting Crazier!

OMG GUYS I AM NOW PLAYING FORTNITE ON THE PS5 I JUST GOT FOR FREE. Just kidding, I am broke and I didn't get a PS5.
Anyways this banger Discord server decided to boost their member count by telling people that they are giving away a PS5. Sometimes this happens every single week! But, what is the true purpose of this giveaway? Do they really giveaway a PS5? Why do they force you to listen to Spotify playlists on repeat to gain entries? Is there a sinister backstory to all this?

I am tired of getting dms from hacked friend accounts sending me some dodgy link... At this point discord is just scammer heaven...

The people who make these playlists will often add larger artists to their playlists to make them seem more legit, thus explaining why someone like Pink Sweat$ would be tossed into a playlist with someone with only a few thousand monthly listeners.

As a small artist, this stuff makes me extremely angry. It benefits no one but whoever made the Playlist. You don't get a base of fans that you can monetize or even really rely on. You get one time listens, and that's it. Sure millions of streams is a lot, but that's not a lot of money. You can't sell tickets or merchandise to one time fans at all.

I actually used to use this server and I agree with you that it is fake, but they do remove people from being registered and they reset the plays every time there is a “giveaway”, so that should explain the low entries on the past winners.

A small but important correcrion to the topic of the playlist "sad songs 😔". Those people are probably trying to boost their own playlist. If they manage to get a big playlist, chances are other artists are willing to pay to be part of this playlist. Sadly this is common practice.

As a musician myself, I suppose I should explain how spotify works. So, firstly, to even be able to post to spotify, you need a distributor. Well, what is a distributor? Well, a distributor is basically a company where you submit your songs to, and they will publish your songs to stores like spotify. Well, with some free services such as routenote, they take about 20-25% of the revenue made from those songs, unless you pay to gather 100% of the royalties. Now, most/all distributors warn you that if you are caught botting your songs on spotify then you could get revenue banned. Since I have never tried this, I do not know how efficient it is. However, I assume that if someone is using 10m+ bots to boost a song then thats pretty sketchy and I'd hope spotify would pick up on that. Now, the Quora person is correct and incorrect. More plays doesnt exactly mean more impressions. More interactions with the song (Liking, adding to playlist, looping, etc.) is what causes more impressions. Well, if they're revenue banned then how can they earn money? A valid question, of which i do not have a full response to, but i'd assume one of two or more things. 1, they could "collaborate" with a secondary artist profile, where they could earn money from, or 2, they could just be trying to grow their fan base, and not really care about money. This sets a terrible example for us smaller musicians attempting to make it by. Its already hard enough for us to even get into the algorithm, but things like this, taking up space for actually talented small artists who want to grow is honestly stupid. But nothing can stop this. Someone always has to ruin the experience. Though I did take a look at "Pink Sweat$" and it seems as though he might be a professional artist, earning his plays genuinely, the other guy definitely is not. Why do I think Pink Sweat$ is possibly a professional artist? Well, there are a lot of massive songs out there that nobody knows the name or original artist of. For example: Josh A and Jake Hill. Anyways, rant over, thank you.

I remember being in a server called "Tritone Records" the server did the same exact thing but they promoted FN Meka, Clix and Gunna's song Florida Water. They did a giveaway for a PS5 and runners up go nitro. I'm pretty sure it was actually legitimate since I became friends with the winner who won the PS5. All the winners actually received their stuff. The PS5 winner won 500$

I did actually enter few giveaways for official products of the server that made the giveaway. What was the prize? A Minecraft server plugin (otherwise paid), for example. Of course their own. I also see a lots of community giveaways where members are making their own giveaways with Steam keys to games. And these are actually legit, owner of that community monitors them and if someone tries to scam others, he bans them. The community consists of only adults and in order to join and have access to every room, you have to be a member of a Facebook group, and you have to friend the owner. To get accepted, you have to write something about yourself for introduction to others. Not only it makes it possible to solve issues more quickly and reliably, but also makes it harder for scammers to simply hide under the anonymity of internet profile. It's not a very big community, but it's also not very small to be honest. It has around 1000 members now.

I digged into this a while ago. You get paid. Most of the Time the plays are generated on 2 Ways: The one you show in the Video and the Second one are cracked Accounts from the US and UK (mostly UK, because they pay 0.006€ per play) For an Investment of 400-500€ (For the Bot, 30-50k Accounts, Proxies, a Server, etc) you can make alot of Money. And you dont have to do anything. You let the Bot run 24/7 and change the Accountlists when your Accounts died. Its a interesting Thing, but only if you are not serious about music and you dont care if you get banned from Spotify, Distrokid, etc.

For me purchasing Spotify plays or followers is an disgusting act and the promotion service you could use can use bots which gets Spotify to shutdown your artist page, so we want the same with this. Artists should build their fan base by themselves not buying Spotify plays which is basically bringing and forcing someone to listen to your music. For me, I don't mind staying on the same number every day and I will not buy any of these useless services. I don't like to force strangers to do something that they don't want to.
