How I would want this to work: - If you buy a cosmetic with coins, you get to keep it, period. - If you "buy" Nitro or a Nitro feature with coins, you can use it for a period of time, maybe 24 hours, maybe 3 days, who knows. Having rented out premium features sounds alright, but renting out cosmetics is kind of just stupid, which is why I fear that's exactly how they'll do it. Imagine if you were playing a video game, you earned enough currency being F2P to get a skin, and then the game said "haha, that's cool and all, but you can only use that skin for a week before you have to grind again."

Unfortunately, there are already several free to play games which have this. Not just for cosmetics either. APB and Warface are two particularly bad examples, at least when I played. The latter has lootboxes to unlock most weapons (not just skins) where the most common drop is a "one hour" version. "One day" and "one week" exist too, but that's still a problem with how permanent unlocks have an unreasonably small chance. The former is the same but for non-lootbox purchases.

i think the main reason people dislike quests is because it means that discord considers advertising as an option quests are realistically one of the most tame forms of ads of all time, but it introduces a potential to ramp up the advertising personally i don't mind a few non-invasive ads on a free service

I really think services like KZbin and discord would be better if they copied Wikipedias style. There are almost certainly enough people willing to chip in if needed, and nitro is a good way to achieve that. Although there have been critiques of the overboarding pleads from wikipedia, the concept works and they have enough money gathered to keep it up for over a decade. And I can't imagine Discord takes a lot more than Wikipedia, as both are mostly text with smaller files uploaded. Edit: with Wikipedias style, I mean becoming a non-profit

Cool, but nitro users are getting the short end of the stick. I'm not sure if the loot boxes thing will work out well for discord unless they were only obtainable through free coins because Australia just banned paid loot boxes in games and games related stuff. The UK has also just banned paid loot boxes in any games and related stuff too but only for under 18s but considering discord is 13+ and has a lot of UK and Australian users who are young they could get into some trouble.

Discord still has a majority of the quests where I, someone on MacOS, can't do them without the spoofing exploit because the games have no Mac support. Also, I'd rather buy the cosmetics outright. I don't want them temporarily. I think that free monthly permanent cosmetics as part of Nitro would work pretty well since people would buy nitro just for the monthly cosmetic.

Considering in the video, it's shown you'll only be able to get those for a limited time if you use the currency, maybe make it so you can also choose to buy it permanently except it's gonna be more expensive than just buying it for a limited time, if that makes sense? For example, imagine you want to buy an avatar customization using virtual currency.
