Without the shedding of blood there is no remission, no forgiveness of sins. Hebrews 9:22 Hymns like this are so important. They are much more than mere "preferences" as opposed to the contemporary praise and worship songs, many of which don't feature deep scriptural content like the old hymns do, especially those the repeat the same words over and over again.

This is a great hymn. Those words "What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus" are a blessing. These simple words are easy for young children to remember so that when they're told that there is some other way to atone for sin or to be a "good person" they are quickly reminded that there is only one way. Thank you for posting.

It's due to the Lutherans, though reformed, being an offshoot of the Roman Catholic Church ... Many of the early reformers still held to their Catholic anti-semitic beliefs...Shalom..
