Apocalypto is even more awesome when you know that many priestly-ruling classes in meso-america could predict some eclipses. I think the implication in that movie is that it is showing a theocracy sacrificing to the sun god with the knowledge of an upcoming eclipse that most of the people have no idea about. That it was timed to coincide with a celestial event....it's awesome and like James Earl Jones said in Conan, that is power!

The one thing they get hilariously wrong is that white guys in the south aren't around black people. If anything, it's the exact opposite. People in the north are the ones who aren't around as many black people in their daily lives. The deep south has such a high percentage of black people compared to the north that even suburb dwelling white people here have tons of black people around them. Where I grew up in the burbs, the school was around 60-40 white to black ratio. And since. I played sports, most of my friends were black. In college it's slightly different since economic demographics skew a little more white.
