Not many youtube channels have reacted to Seo Taiji, the Father of SK idol music, beginning around 1990-92. Very very few reactions, in a huge sea of reactions. That is unfortunate, because there would be no KPop idol industry if it wasn't for him & the Boys, of which Taiji did copy it from the west, although SK had already been copying western music for at least a century before. So, without Taiji, there would be no Big 4 (SM, YG, JYP, Hybe) & there would be no Blackpink, BTS, Exo, HOT, 1Tym, NewJeans, Svt, GG, Twice, Psy, Bigbang, etc. The niche concept of sing+dancing really got widely popular because of him (in SK, that is) & that is why KPop has been singing+dancing this whole time. Pretty much 100%, not 99%. That is the audio-visual package inspired, precedented & templated from him. But that is also ironic because Seo Taiji is a multi-instrumentalist. And he is first & foremost a metal & rock musician, where as KPop instead became mostly R&B, hiphop, pop, (because of Boys), & really no music instruments. And his band, Seo Taiji & Boys, was not fully hiphop, it was actually more hiphop-rock. Of course, Taiji & Boys did also start eventually playing instruments, but his child, KPop, did not copy that eventually & it still has not copied that. The probable reason for that is the idol industry does not want their groups as instrumentalists & the other reason is that it is much harder to learn instruments than to learn choreography. So instead the instrumentalists have to stay in other genres, such as K-Rock, trot or K-Jazz. And K-Pop will just have to relegate instrumentalists as a background live stage band or as session recording players. However, BTS does also use live bands, as one example. But it is also possible that one day, in a far off generation of KPop, it might start slowly veering away from all-choreography & incorporate instrument-playing by the idol members themselves. Sadly, it has been rumored that Taiji might be done doing music. I mean he hasn't really made any new music in over a decade I think, he has mostly just been doing concerts of his old songs for that same amount of time. I hope more youtube channels react to Seo Taiji. He has a medium-sized amount of discography, so it's not really going to be a huge lot. But it is big variety of different genres put together, from his hiphop-rap, to metal, to alt.rock, to synth/EDM, to symphonic, etc. That way, more younger people who like KPop watching youtube will appreciate & enrich their knowledge of where KPop basically started.

Funny how kpop stans like you are worshipping the companies while the rest are here for the music. You are the worst of stan culture. BTW, the “big 3” belongs to the past. You know how in a lot of stories people are told not to look back or else something bad was going to happen? Perhaps you can learn from that.

In many ways the 3rd generation made what kpop is now to the world: Something unserious. BTS brought it back to Seo Taiji and Boys. BTS didn’t create BTS wasn’t the first. OK. And? That would be my response. There is more in depth coverage of kpop by KZbin I think and predictably it is a series and not done in 20 minutes

🙄 Naturally BTS didn't invent "K-pop"/Idol music. But there is a reason that from all these Idol groups Seo Taiji only aknowledged BTS and told them that this is their generation. And frankly it was second generation that led to people believing Idols are not real artists. That was a sentiment BTS already had to fight in their debut year in 2013, possibly even in their training phase. What you don't seem to know is that back than already over 100 Idol groups debuted each year. You just didn't get to see the majority of them as they disbanded within 100 days. Erik Nam speculated that maybe 1% of these groups stays around for a few years. Even today there are ca. 50 unbooked Idol groups at the weekly music shows that hope that someone cancells, someone comes in, points at them and tell them they can show an abridged version of their current promoted song, that it will be shown live and than uploaded. Naturally bigger companies have the connections and money to let their artists dominate the industry/not have that kind of trouble. When Army say that "BTS paved the Way" we don't mean they invented K-pop. Because that is not what the phrase means. It means to make it easier for others to do something. Personally I prefer bby gang mag's video essays "how BTS paved the way" as an explanation. He makes less mistakes than boracity magazine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
