I also am not a fan of edm, but fire by bts is an exception for me cus it has great lyrics about not giving a fuk and living free and the live version goes hard. It's a party anthem and a concert must have.

Fire is the way it is, basically because its purpose was to showcase their performance. Every song made in that "category" is definetly tied with hardcore choreography. Thats its main purpose.

Idk if someone told you this, but Zico and RM were friends before they debuted. Zico actually debuted in Block B (he was the leader and wrote/produced a lot of their songs) a year or two before BTS debuted. And they actually performed together at an award show called MAMA in 2014 (Zico and RM did 'rap battle' while the other members did dance battle and then they sang together). I really liked Block B songs they were different from the other generic songs other groups put out at the time. But they did switch companies in the middle of their career which hurt their popularity I think. I know the members also went to military and that Zico is under a different agency (that I am pretty sure is under Hybe, because he was a judge/mentor on a Hybe idol survivor show plus he also did an interview with Jhope for Jack in the box). Basically Block B havent released music since "Shall we dance" which.. I think was in 2019? And I haven't heard any news about any members except Zico since then so idk if they are even still together and just on hiatus because of military or not, because I think some of the members changed companies again hahah. The only artists that I keep up with are BTS and TXT (who were both guests on that Hybe show Zico was a judge/mentor which is even how I know about that, because I didnt actually watch the show because it was produced by Mnet who is a horrible network when it comes to editing stuff to create fake drama plus they have a lot of proven (as in people were actually sentanced in court) curruption.)

@@MsKaz1000 That is part of it. The other is probably that labels have a coporate/Finance part and that is very tricky. Zico actually had another musician signed (don't know if he still does) and is training a boygroup at the moment that may debut this or next year. (He also had a comeback last summer after his service) Personally I believe he talked to Namjoon about his problems and Namjoon told him if he came under the HYBE umbrella he would still have artistic freedom but would be able to give those parts that were hard for him to HYBE. It is the label of the aquired labels that is the least owned by HYBE (still more than half). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That performance is the first thing i ever saw from BTS. Thats how i found them. And i still remember that at the time the only English word that was on the title was Block B, i did SO much work just to try to find who the other group in the performance was. Eventually i found a reaction channel for Kpop(JRE) and i went into his comment section, linked the video and asked for help to find this other group from the performance. His subscribers came through and thats how i found BTS in early 2015. Ive followed JRE and BTS ever since.🙏 at that time, JRE was definetly the Biggest Kpop reaction channel. I even remember going into his channel every single day bc at the time i didnt have a way to keep track of BTSs comebacks. I watched my first ever BTS comeback though JREs channel, if im not mistaken it was the "i need you" comeback. Wow... youre comment just hit me hard! Walking back on memory lane.😂😏🙏

Not mentioning BTS at the time they debuted neglects providing a better understanding of the current generational change block ; They debuted in 2013 which is one year after EXO's debut, 2 years before both EXO's and BIGBANG's peak, which is relevant in BTS's History because 2015 is the year they graduated from their school albums era and introduced their audience of small numbers of ARMYs in Korea and all around the world to HYYH P1 (aka the most beautiful moment in life P1 aka along with hyyh P2 one of the most influential bodies of musical work in History despite it not having the exposure needed for such a statement, but i saw first hand how many real LIVES it saved and that's more than makes it deserving of the title), 2015 is also when KZbin reacting started getting more popular and many outsidrs started watching kpop content, but despite the noticeable jump in BTS's popularity and reach, they were still completely ignored in the k-industry and treated basically like 2nd class idols lumped in the background BEHIND 10s of groups from similar small and bigger companies, EXO and BIGBANG were 1st class from YG and SM and competing with each other over everything in the industry, (if things were fair based on music/lyricism/innovation BTS should've been n°2behind BIGBANG at the very least during the year of 2015), EXO are typical fleeting conceptual kpop with edgy/trendy performances and beats, and the then 9 year old BIGBANG had artistry but still tied down by YG for example lyricism is good but is restricted to certain topics, rarely managed to express themselves fully in their music. (HYYH was the album that i got out of as a fully fledged ARMY) BTS ended up selling more albums world wide (not Skorea) than both EXO and BIGBANG. And that's when they REALLY became public enemy n°1 to their fandoms whom were the biggest most influential, THAT'S when operation bring down BTS no matter what started where they were accused of everything starting with buying their own albums (where they had to ask the Sk courts to investigate them to prove their innocence, the damage was done regardless), plagiarism for rediculous stuff to a point where "plagiarism boys" became a nickname that followed them till the end of 2016, and ending with disgusting sht i don't want to mention. 2015 is when ARMY got angry and realized that it's obvious they're being pushed to the edge constantly and if we do nothing about it we're going to lose them and we just couldn't handle the thought so we learned everything about how the industry works, made social media accounts to communicate with each other and spread BTS out there, we became the annoying fans who suggest listening to BTS music and talk only about them anywhere everywhere both inside and outside the kpop community and especially outside of it, we had kARMY translating everything and we learned how to listen to their music properly, how to vote for them for year end award shows, promoting them with any means we can etc etc, all to make them so big they become safe and untouchable by everyone who were trying to sabotage them. And yet, their music and performances were so good they ended up flying WAAYY higher than we ever thought. Tbh i always knew that if they didn't crumble down and get their careers destroyed by the kpop community they'll definitely become artists who'd sell out stadiums because they've been miles better than one direction in 2015 with only lacking the promotional aspect, i thought their success will remain underground and neglected by the mainstream in the US, but i never thought we'd be granted a little window to go up mainstream with that accidental top social artist nomination they got for bbmas in 2017, we applied our previous voting experiences while panicking thinking we better not let them lose against all these huge US names.... Yeah Justin Bieber came in second place with something like 6 million (?) votes while we had wait for it 300 fucking million votes, the noise after that opening allowed us a new challenge with the US industry, a challenge that is easier than what we had in k-industry mainly because of our numbers.. sorry for rambling, but i think it's significant to know that the context of BTS's debut and their placement in the k-industry back then are part of some of the reasons behind where they are now because what happened was a huge motivation for ARMYs to develop into the super organized super hands on fandom we are today rather than being normal passive consumers. We are also part of the reason why there's no latest gen kpop groups yet, we are the biggest fandom in the world, we're involved in the kpop community whether they like it or not, and while BTS is not going down from the top anytime soon which leaves no room for copycats or replacemens, we are naturally and regularly exposed to the kpop industry and we happen to have demands in our music consumption preferences BTS satisfied us with for years that most companies refuse to provide, like nurturing artists rather than performers that get replaced with their own replicas every decade or half decade, if you dive a little deeper, black pink is the replica of 2ne1 (2ne1 is still better in my opinion) but anyways long story short, BTS gave the industry a chance to change for the better but they're still refusing so far so we'll see from here when or WHETHER IF they CAN produce another generation under BTS's shadow while refusing to follow their blueprint.. I apologize for the long ranty comment the video inspired it lmao.

Your experience is really similar with mine. So I am a Kpop fan since Super Junior,GG,Big Bang, SHINee,T-ara etc,. I didn't listen to Kpop, I just watched it because Kpop in general was mainly visually driven content . I only started to read lyrics only after BTS and how I realized most of the Kpop songs I was listening to were pretty shallow af . So , my discovery to BTS went like this . One day I was in school , some of my kpopper friends were talking about this one group. They were saying things like how ' ugly ' the boys were to be a Kpop idols , how they dressed is so old fashioned and funny . That conversation made me feel really bad and awful . Can you imagine how would they feel if they heard those things? When I got home , I immediately searched those boys; their group name and found out it was BTS . At that time, I have listened to their debut song , no more dream . I didn't have much impression about them , I just thought the song was not so bad and not that good . But the haters made me care for them . I started watching their behind the scenes, their diary logs , all of the contents they put out . I found myself enjoying as they're funny, genuine, clumsy, growing and hardworking. The past they walked through is so sad as the same time empowering. I watched them lost , depressed, crying and celebrating. I was a multi stan , i was stanning BigBang and EXO . Then I added BTS . But one incident made me disappointed in my Kpop community. That was the time people tried to give BTS the black ocean and accusing them of plagiarism. They went through such a hard time. We were voting like crazy and won but Kpop community didn't believe we , ARMY exist . They thought we were fraud. They didn't believe there were so many ARMY outside Korea . BTS were made fun of as cheaters , some said Big hit bought the votes with money but the company was going through bankruptcy at that time . After investigation, they were found innocent but that didn't make the headlines , only the rumors and assumptions were loud. After that I was so done with Kpop community. I started only supporting BTS. Their artistic sides, overall performance skills and creativity began to explode . Their discography is abundance of emotions . As I listen to it carefully, I too became a better person and my eyes were opened a lot . I became conscious about social and mental issues of the society. I'm not a native English speaker but I learn for them . Anyway, it's funny how a hate speech about BTS got me into BTS. I have to thank those haters.

@@usagi009 omg you're right, our experiences are almost identical!!! I stanned BigBang only and listened casually to others before adding BTS, and i lost hope in the kpop community when that trend of kpop fandoms supporting each other on each groups comeback on KZbin happened, like VIPs going to EXO's MV and leaving nice messages and vice versa, when ARMYs did the same thing they were viciously attacked in the comments because, despite not mentioning BTS and leaving a positive comment, it ended up with the most likes thanks to ARMYs and was pushed up to be the first comment showing instead of VIPs comments... They hated us because we got bigger than them and seemed to have stood out more than stans of the actual group... That's when I was completely certain that there's no hope for these people and completely left the community and decided that I'll never belong to any fandom other than ARMY ever again, i remember it being late 2016 as well

21:30 The letter ㅂ's phonic in korean is a combination, like in the middle of both, b/p. Sometimes it sounds more like one or the other. An example (comparison) can be the last names 'Park' and 'Bang' both of them begin with the same letter in korean, but a slightly different sound. That's why when they're romanized, the first letter is different. I hope this helps 💗

Park Bom is perfect example. In the difference how p/b are pronounced differently. Im still learning and it takes so much time to try to actually hear the differences. Sometimes the b is p, sometimes the p sounds like b. And this happens with other character/letters as well..😅🤧 is it r/l or the other way around. Its just said differently, how its actually written and that confuses me.😮‍💨

BTS performed numerous songs alongside Seo Taiji at his 25th anniversary concert in 2017. The concert is on youtube for free and it's such a fun watch. When I first watched the concert like 6 months ago one of the songs sounded so familiar and I couldn't pinpoint where I knew it from. After a little research I realized the song was in one of my favorite movies growing up called 3 Ninjas Kick Back from 1994. I had no idea I had heard kpop long before Gangnam Style.

When you eventually get around to ot, it you don't like "Fire" by BTS or some of their similar songs, you should at least check out their live performances. And for pronunciation, forgive me because I'm still learning, you asked how to pronounce Bang Sihyuk's family name. The first character is ㅂ, just like in BTS' Korean name 방탄소년단. It has a mix between a B and a P, but depending on someone's way of speaking you might hear it sound more as a P or a B, and sometimes depending on the syllable that follows may sound like a M. I'm sure a native Korean speaker would be able to explain better, and certainly correct anything I got wrong, but I hope that helps even just a little.

DKDK TV really do BTS dirty. They one said they wish they would just go away so other boy groups could get some attention, when what the new boys groups really needed to do was create good music & stop just being about looks. They said in this video that ‘they didn’t gain much attention in their first year’ but they took out every rookie award at the end of year award show. They had the nickname ‘monster rookies’. A fact often down played by the gatekeepers.

David was always a little more respectfull and as far as I can tell a pretty fast fan of BTS. There are vids were you can see him thinking himself through problems/questions. This is why it's always baffled me when people said "kpop is starting to become good these days" cuz they literally have been good since a decade ago! Just because the western people didn't "know" them, doesn't mean kpop isn't good or famous. Kpop is already big in asia 10 years ago. Those western people just discovered them late, that's it. Ofcourse people wouldn't know them cuz they wouldn't even want to try to listen to them. It's like asian people saying they don't know beyonce, of course they wouldn't know her but that doesn't makes her less good or famous. They didn't discover her yet that's why. Kpop was disgusted to most of Americans 10 years ago. Trust me, I know cuz I was a fan back then and us liking kpop is an ick to Americans.

This is a great historical timeline, but it does not touch the subject of labels, contracts, horrible working conditions, starvation diets, hospitalizations, suicides, etc. I have long said that entertainers in Korea need a legit union for artists, legal representation and laws to protect the artists from the harmful conditions they work and suffer under in these VERY powerful companies. Many trainees spend years preparing to debut and never do....instead their contracts end with THEM owing the company money for expenses incurred. I've been listening to Kpop and watching Kdramas for more than 15 years and have become deeply concerned over what I've learned about how the 'system works'. Is it worse than the evil in the USA? I don't know....but in my honest opinion, I'm greatly concerned that BigHit 'merged' with HYBE America (Scooter Braun) and the members are getting more and more involved in the American side of things. I'd hate to see them having to pay the dues that have to be paid to win a Grammy. I'd rather they wake up and understand that a Grammy isn't the prize they think it is. just my 2 cents. On a side, I would highly suggest watching the 25th Anniversary special of Seo Taiji featuring BTS. He's old enough to be their dad, but you'd never know it and the members were honored to work with him...from that show, suggest hip hop....'Come Back Home' and rock/metal... 'ClassRoom Idea' ...with lyrics. ARMY grandma

Just to try to alleviate some of your concerns - Hybe America and Big Hit Music are completely separate. Scooter Braun has no impact on BTS just like the CEOs of the other labels (like Source music, Ador etc) who are under Hybe Labels don’t have any impact on them. Bang PD made sure when Hybe Labels was formed, that what was then BH Entertainment and which is now BH Music, operates completely independently under the Hybe Labels umbrella, so Hybe Labels doesn’t have the same kind of input or control as they do with the other labels under them. I do agree with watching the 25th Anniversary special of Seo Taiji with BTS, it’s excellent!

Even if you don't like the song - I urge you to check out the song live. THey are KNOWN for remixing songs for their concerts that ARMY wish they would release versions of. The remix of Fire they did for Las Vegas sounds nothing like the EDM sound you did not care for. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp7OnX1_g5eImNU&start_radio=1) - and not just cuz I'm biased as I was there. "Come Back Home" - BTS also got to perform it with him on his 25th anniversary show - and allowed them to cover it - which he doesn't do often from what I understand. The song basically urged run-aways to return home - and many of them did! this one has eng subs (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWG3Z4CMjt12btU)

Seo Taji, the father of Kpop and Korea's"President of Culture", is the one from the other video that came back for like the 20th? Anniversary, performed with BTS, and officially crowned them as their successors. 'This is your generation now,” declared Seo addressing BTS' All I'll say is it's going to be interesting to see the industry post BTS. Which I say as not that they will ever leave, truly. But every generation comes to an end someday. 😥

19:40 Well, good news then because James Corden has quit the show (and I'm not sorry about it 😉). Fun fact: When he p...ef off ARMY his ratings dropped from 4.2 to 1.6 overnight. ARMY is a force to be reckoned with. 😅 But honestly, that was one of the most chaotic videos I've ever seen, even though I already knew the basics of K-pop. Not a fan of that one. 😵

4:06 moment from kdrama "answer me 1988"/"reply 1988"😍 I advise you to watch it😁 The action of the series takes the viewer to 1988, when the Summer Olympic Games were held in Seoul. In the center of events is a friendly company of neighbors that lives like a big family. Each of the families has its own problems and trials, but many begin to believe in a small miracle against the backdrop of such a grandiose event that should soon begin in their city😊

Zico and RM's friendship goes way back. They have a song titled Fvck Cockroachez when they're still underground rappers as Runch Randa (RM) and I forgot Zico's ug name. You should check it out, there are uploaded versions here on yt with eng lyrics. Their voices were very different in that song (probably coz they were still teenagers that time, 13 and 14 y/o i think) but you can definitely see the skills and flow they have as young as that

That’s the issue with romaji (using the Roman alphabet for languages that don’t use it) because you read bang and pronounce it with a b, but in Korean that’s not how it’s said, there’s not a real distinction between ‘b’ and ‘p’ (if I’m wrong please let me know as I only know the basics), it’s a mixed sound, there are sounds that sound more similar to ‘b’ and more similar to ‘p’ but they’re… not quite the same it’s hard to explain, another representation of this is ‘r’ and ‘l’, it’s a mixed sound there is no real distinction between these two in Korean, that’s why if you hear Koreans pronounce something like ‘girl’ it’ll sound sorta like ‘girr’ instead, romaji is kinda subjective it can change depending on whose writing it, like the Korean last name ‘Lee’ which in Korean doesn’t have that L sound it’s more pronounced like ‘ee’ and I’m sure we just added the L cause it looks better, Japanese also has similar issues ‘specially with L’s and R’s, I’m sure other languages also have the same issue but I’m not as familiar with them

Fire is not on the Wings Album. It's from the Youth ERA - Fire was the title track for "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever" (2016). That ERA was very diverse in Genre's and it was a huge turning point for BTS in their sound and their lyricism.

If you really want to research the reason behind the success of K pop or K culture you have to look into Hallyu or Korean Wave, which was and is partly a strategy from the Korean government. But if you do, you will also be introduced to K dramas, which is a whole other Rabbit Hole to enter. You have to be open and perhaps shooked about how tough the K pop industry is. It is not all rainbow and unicorns. It is big business and very calculated - but I still love it.
@ruthfischer7615
@ruthfischer7615 Жыл бұрын
while it is a program I'm under the impression that Hallyu as a government project is actually way less serious. Yes, they made laws that make some stuff easier and give their own awards/try to work with the labels - but it is pretty much all they do at least for Idol music (maybe a few nice articles? IDK) BTS did not become big because of Hallyu. "The success of Hallyu and BTS are distinct cousins." (bby gang mag): almost but not quiet. Not sure what the consequences for - say - SM Ent. was because of Hallyu.
