Film Description: Can a beautiful and internationally famous American actress find happiness with a frumpy British bookstore clerk? She can -- at least for a while, it seems -- in Notting Hill. William Thacker (played by Hugh Grant) is a bookseller at a shop in the Notting Hill district in West London, who shares a house with an eccentric Welsh friend, Spike (Rhys Ifans). One day, William is minding the store when in strolls Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), a lovely and well-known actress from the United States who is in London working on a film. She buys a book from William, and she is polite and charming in the way a famous actress would be with a star-struck sales clerk. Their relationship would logically end there, if William didn't run out a few minutes later to buy some juice. While dashing back to the shop, he bumps into Anna on the street, spilling juice all over her blouse. Since he lives nearby, William politely offers to let her stop by his house to clean up; since William seems harmless enough, Anna agrees. When Anna has to stop back to pick up a bag she left at William's house, they kiss -- just in time for Spike to show up. A romance slowly blooms as his friends and family (not to mention the world at large) wonder out loud what he's doing dating a movie star. Notting Hill reunites Hugh Grant with producer Duncan Kenworthy and screenwriter Richard Curtis, who previously worked together on the international hit Four Weddings And A Funeral.

He was so in love with her, but he felt scared of being hurt. Sometimes, people make very tough decisions the rest can't understand. This was one of those moments, he was trying to be realistic, so he decided to push her away. This scene made me sad, both actors were great. They totally convinced me.

THAT LINE. Ugh, Julia, ripping my heart out. And you know what my favorite thing about it is? Her delivery. Any other actress would've turned into a unsubtle histrionic crier, but Julia? No, she's doing this with her winning smile, trying to hide her heart shattering into a million pieces, looking thisclose to crying but is keeping it together.

Everyone talks about the "I'm just a girl..." line but what really sets up the entire scene is when she says "that's a real no..." She realizes that he's serious and it catches her off guard. This is the moment when she becomes vulnerable...not when she delivers the "I'm just a girl" line.

The best scene, from the best movie both actors ever made. Julia Roberts really delivers in this scene. I just watched it on blu-ray. On that "just a girl" line, she flashes that smile, with a blush in her cheeks and barely visible tears welling in her eyes. Perfect. Also watch when Grant comments on "that temper of hers," you see that sense of fear in her face.

Julia delivers that killing line so well but my favourite part of this scene is what Hugh says cause it’s the logical conclusion to the situation. She’d go and he’d be buggered, her picture everywhere etc. As a romantic I love the film ending and as a realist I think the reason for turning her down here is just. 💛

Man this is such a great scene from a classic movie. Really disappointing to see the comment section littered with Carpool Karaoke comments. The interesting thing about the comments section is seeing how this scene impacted others & what they took away from it. The 25th who's here from Carpool Karaoke comment in a row kinda spoils that. Also, here's a clue, if 20 other people posted the same comment, then the answer is a lot of people are here from Carpool Karaoke. Just give one of the other comments & a like and don't litter the comment section with a repetitive post.

In a real scenario I think he deserved better, she was quiet manipulative she was not expecting him to say yes, she was so used to people doing whatever she wanted she had definitely had rage issues, after watching this from years ago....it kind of made me happy that he made her feel the way she feel, she loved to play the victim when she never thought the way she was playing with him.

This scene is basically the sum-up of my love life: just a boy standing in front of a girl, asking her to love him. But the answer is always »no« or there are always other issues. I'm 41, almost 42 and I've basically given up.

My uncle got married to the love of his life in his forties. But also, I would like to encourage you that there are other forms of happiness. I know that seeing everyone around you being in a relationship isn't easy, but please don't make your happiness depend soley on a significant other.

I saw your message was just three months ago, so I ask, don't give up, not completely, for, as Karen Blixen once said, "God made the world round so that we could not see too far down the road."

Roberts was perfect for this role because she's an amazing actress, and she was a 10/10 in this movie, so it made it more believable

If any woman ever said this to me, I would probably be willing to die for her. But, unfortunately, almost none that I have ever known expressed anything remotely like this. Generally, it has been the other extreme, they wanted me to beg them for the opportunity to spend money on them, and then to thank them for letting me spend money on them.

Its funny, the only way to feel love again is to let someone into your life, yet the same avenue also leads to loss and heartbreak. I guess thats what makes it a gamble.
