Love this song so much. My Dad died in 2001 and this was one of his favourite Christmas songs. He was a massive Beatles fan and thought it was Paul McCartney when we first heard it. Makes me think of my Dad and brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. A timeless, underrated, nostalgic classic

I empathise Ross - it really reminds me of my Nan, who loved this song when I was a kid. Listening to it transports me straight back to her little flat in 1988 if I close my eyes.

Beautiful comment. Although my dad passed when I was just a boy five years earlier, I associate his exceptional moral standards with this divine song. It’s all the more mysterious as the group seemed to disappear following this hit. The orchestration and lyrics are transcendent.

This song for some reason has been in my head for the last month. I agree about ELO although as a massive ELO fan I knew it wasn’t them. I was convinced though it was McCartney with wings and Linda. I’ve just spent a month trying to find it on Apple Music under wings, McCartney etc. Thought I was going mad. Now it makes sense. Could so easily be a McCartney/Lynne co-write

A quick copy and past, I first heard this and I too thought ELO or something, but... Keeping the Dream Alive" is a 1988 song by German pop and rock band Münchener Freiheit - also known as Freiheit in English-speaking countries - taken from their album Fantasy. The music was written by Aron Strobel and Stefan Zauner with lyrics by Timothy Touchton and Curtis Briggs, and the song was arranged by Andrew Powell, Armand Volker and Stefan Zauner. It was recorded in Abbey Road Studios and mastered by Tonstudio Rico Sonderegger, with Volker as the producer. The performance by Münchener Freiheit with the London Symphony Orchestra included featuring of additional vocals by the Jackson Singers.

(I didn’t make the link, I thought it was more Queen, lol) - when my 1st childhood cat died from Cancer in 2005, I chose George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun” for her passing. Well, I just picked KTDA now for my college-30’s Sam Cat’s passing. I know Ppl think pets aren’t as important in Life… but they are to Introverts. Sad, but Glorious song. Thank you. ❤️

I was a radio promotion guy for WTG records (a CBS label) here in the US in 1989 and we tried our hardest to get airplay for them. It's still a mystery to me why we couldn't do it. I remember bringing it to radio stations in a plain brown wrapper with no name and playing it for Music Directors to see who they thought it was. It was the usual guesses ELO, Beatles etc. but for whatever reasons, it was a tough one. I still thing it's a great album.

Omg I heard part of this song on some programme yesterday and was convinced it was Jeff Lynne. Even did a Google search.. So did Jeff write it? Definitely An ELO influence there. 😊

Every time I hear this song I keep thinking of Paul McCartney's hit "The Frog Chorus" which I have SOMEWHERE on 7" single. They have VERY similar voices and they are around the same 80s era.
