This year, when I listened to this song (felt like the first time I ever heard it) I could finally let it all out. Thank you Chrissie for your amazing vocals on this song. I've always loved this song. Now in my mid 50's and have experienced the loss of so many people in my life including close family members I've come to realise the cleverest part of this song, given why it was written, is that slow introduction and build up. It's the way the loss of someone just creeps up on you. It builds like thet start of the song. It's very clever.

This song was the first ever slow dance that my wife and I had, when we started going out at the office Christmas Party on 20 December 1984. We're now about to have our 40th Christmas together and the love between us has matured like a great oak tree and this song has matured like a fine wine. We have walked a lot more than 2,000 miles (very far!) through snow, rain, blow; but our hearts are still singing and it still feels like Christmas time. Diamonds in the snow sparkle!

When asked straight on in an interview, she wouldn't say. Only time in many interviews that she was lost for words. Finally she said "it's about santa claus; just say it's about santa claus" JHS makes sense, but so does PF, with whom she apparently had a relationship before the Pretenders. Maybe both rolled into "he's gone..." Mystery...

Weirdly enough, I’m so glad I worked at tescos over the holidays. They played this on loop and I had no idea who it was (I’m 22). A Christmas staple.

It's probably the most underrated Christmas song. I only know this song from a 13-year-old CD I found in a CD player I haven't used since 2011. A real hidden gem.

One of the greatest Pretenders songs, and possibly the greatest Christmas song of the rock'n'roll era--and this cheesy video is the best they could manage?
