Tafsir Al Tabari is an encyclopedia of what the early Salaf said about each aya of the Quran. To say that it was just a collection of random quotes is bad enough, let alone saying that Imam Al Tabari wasn’t a mufassir! We’re not denying that it has weak narrations in it, but to describe it the way Nouman Ali Khan did is unacceptable. Imagine how many of his followers are now gonna stay away from that book because of his baseless comments. Imam Ibn Khuzayma on Imam Al Tabari and his tafsir: *”I have read his Tafsir from beginning to end and I do not know anyone on the face of this earth who is more learned than him.”* (Siyar A’lam Al Nubala 14/273)

@Aziz Rahman You trust it by having knowledge of hadith by distinguishing weak from authentic thought your own knowledge. These books shouldn’t be read by laymen due to how advanced it is and the prerequisites of knowledge that one must have. The basis of his point is correct. That his Tafseer and his Tareekh is encyclopedia nature in which Imam At Tabari collected all the various statements that has been said. It is the mother of the tafsirs. NAK wording was not the best and has mistakes but his point was to highlight that those who attack Islam quote those two works but we need to know if he quotes and mentions it. It does not mean it is authentic and true. I think a person with illness in his heart would take NAK words as slander or him being misguided. It is statements that has mistake in it and required better wording and guidance on.

I have heard many scholars about tafseer at tabari and they all praise it and call imam at tabari the imam of all those who do tafseer of Qur'an. But, they all also agree that there are weak Hadith in it and some extremely weak fabrications and we should be aware of those and that's why this is not a tafseer book for any average muslim like me to just pickup and read, I will need the guidance of a scholar to understand it

Tafsir at Tabari is a great resource for seekers of knowledge. Ustaz Nouman Ali Khan didn’t ridicule at Tabari. Rather he urged caution when reading this tafsir as it includes all sort of narratives which anti Muslims use quite often..

This is the very reason knowledge is so important. If people had put enough time into studying their deen like they did in gaming, chatting, flirting, snapping and what not, these basic attacks against Islam would be looked at as jokes. Trust me on this, I used to be shook at such attacks once. After I started studying Islam a bit more, like, Alhamdulillah they all just seem like desperate attempts to get some attention. Also, Brother Nouman Ali Khan also has some huge errors and quoted fabrications to support his view of certain things such as free mixing. There's a whole video by Abu Mussab Wajdi Akkari where he points out those problems in a polite manner. And do live upto your name brother. Research and gain knowledge. The moment we start being emotional and use our attachment to certain personalities instead of following the haqq, we end up being astray. Trust me on this. I used to watch Br. Nouman Ali Khan, Mufti Menk and their likes a lot before. I stopped as soon as I realized the problems they pose either knowingly or unknowingly. May Allah guide us all. Barakallahu feek. My beloved brother, I understand what Nouman Ali Khan had said about Imam at-Tabari, but that does not justify makeing a video highlighting this mistake of Nouman Ali khan from several years ago. If you have a problem with what Nouman said reach out to him privately and tell him what he said was wrong, and provide the proper information proving your point and disproving his idea. Because when you make a video like this, you are only causing more divide between the Ummah, I.e. being a source of fitna. Ya akhi, what would happen if people were to start revealing your past, or my past or even the reader’s past. Nobody would want to even talk to us at that point. ان الله غفور رحيم, he conceals our sins and our mistakes and what we may have done in our past from being shown off to the people. Imagine a world were everybody’s past is just constantly being brought up and into question, nobody would be trusted or even talked to. For example In the time of the prophet (saw) during the treaty of Hudaybiyyah, after the prophet (saw) had agreed with سهل (the pagan at the time but later became a Muslim (may Allah be please with him) ) regearding the treaty for coming back to do Umrah next year. Omar ibn al-خطاب (may Allah be pleased with him) was upset by this, he reminded the prophet (saw) about the prophets (saw) dream about seeing himself do umrah and wearing the إحرام. And Omar (may Allah be pleased him) was upset for the prophet because the prophet didn’t get to accomplish his dream, which the dream of all prophets is true. And so the prophet (saw) told all the companies (may Allah be pleased with them all) to just shave their hands and slaughter the animals and they can leave the state of إحرام. But Omar (may Allah be pleased with him) was basically saying are we not on truth and they are on the falsehood, and the prophet (saw) replied yes. And Omar later narrated later on in his life that, that day he had almost make kufr due to how hard that day was, but he had accepted prophet (saw) said and did as he was told. And every Muslim witnessed this on the day, but nobody had kept commenting on it, as Muslims when somebody says something and they’re know for being practicing Muslims we won’t pick on every single mistake they make, in the case, the other companies didn’t slander him for what he had almost done. But rather they forgive and overlook it. In the same sense with Nouman here, you should at least be respectful and reach out to him privately and tell him the problem with what he had said. Now that doesn’t mean, Khalas we can’t trust Nouman Ali khan anymore just because of his own opinion, regardless if it was baseless or rational. What I’m trying to say is, at the end of the day Nouman is your brother in Islam, treat him like one and don’t drag his name in the mud, and respect him by reaching out to him Privately. السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.

What is your structured approach to knowledge without saying that is sahih and that is sahih stamped, as well-known scholars disagree. For example, how do you relate to the fact that both Imam Malik and other scholars and Ibn Taymiyyah said that Ibn Ishaq is not credible ? Is it something you can relate to ?.
