I feel like matches like these show why Djokovic is truly great. Everyone sees him consistently beating top players in the semis/finals of slams, but I bet these matches are equally tough for him mentally sometimes. A lot of these guys come out playing like they have nothing to lose, and Novak is usually not in top form in the first week. The fact that he hasn’t lost before the quarters of a slam since 2018 is wild.

First rounds are difficult sometimes for top players because their opponents have played well through many qualifying rounds and are ready while top players can come in a little rusty. Many upsets happen in the first round. If Novak was a lesser player it may have happened here too.

I like some of the things from this new kid. There is some good flexibility that should help his athleticism. Hopefully, he takes care of that ability. Explosiveness is pretty good. He has some heart, which was on display. I would like to see him try to hit a few more two handers on defense. Prizmic really gave Novak a run for his money here. Took the second set, was break point down to go down 5-0 in the 4th, triple break, saved it and got one break back, and then saved SIX match points before Novak finally converted the 7th. First man ever to take Novak past 4 hours in round 1 of a major. Heck of an effort. Gave the champ a great fight and well and truly went down fighting. I remember turning on my phone and expecting to see a 6-1 6-2 6-1 esque score, and when I checked it was 6-2 6-7 6-3 4-0 and I was shocked he dropped a set but the 4-0 made me think we were heading for a near carbon copy of the Couacaud match which Novak won 6-0 in the 4th after dropping set 2 in a tiebreak. But it turned out to be much closer. Well played Dino.

Prizmic hit some big shots a la Djokovic there. Djokovic did the boring stuff well such as serving well and taking care of business - hitting put away backhands to the opponent backhand. People are so anxious to see Novak fall, they are coping and will hype anyone. Yes Prižmić played good, and showed fighting spirit, but match has this flow only because Novak has a cold and wasn't in good form. Even Novak praised the kid more than is realistic, but I think it's more because Ivanišević knows Dino and his family because they come from the same town and he told Novak about him.

Prizmic could of had Novak? Had Prizmic took the 3rd set Novak might have lost the match? Novak was really close to doing the unthinkable: “losing in the first round”. But I think Novak’s pride and legendary resolve wasn’t gonna have that? Don’t let the 3 sets to one set fool you. Novak almost lost this like a tight 5 setter. You have to see it to know what I mean. Congrats to Novak. That kid Prizmic is definitely going to be a grand slam champion if he continues his path and isn’t diverted with a “less than 100 % supportive partner” and continues to work hard and stays disciplined.

Nah Noles was slacking off. This isn't even close to Noles highest level. He's only playing 50% of what he can produce if he needs to.

@@jonfreeman9682 you’re right, Novak was battling a cold in the match. And the wasn’t the best Novak. But if you noticed on the last point, match point, Novak was a bit pissed and putting all his power in those shots, lol 😂. You can tell he didn’t want that kid to get that point, and perhaps set?

Where are the dropshots, volleys, or other excellent plays at the net by Nole in this??? This "highlights" (alleged) make it look like Prizmic lost only due to his UEs... 🤣🥴

Yeah I hear such great things about this match from the comments and by djokovic's reaction, but the extended highlights were no better than the regular ones at showing me some great tennis. I saw wild hits and alot of basic rally balls back to the opponent.

He's definitely pushing the limit. What's incredible is the guy is hardly injured like Federer. I think Noles only needed surgery once to fix his wrist and Federer only needed it twice for his back. Nadal needed maybe 5 or 6 times. But Noles has a pretty physical game too so it's a testament to how well he manages injuries to extend his career. If he keeps up he could play to 50 and win 20 more Grand Slams. With Federer and Nadal gone no one can challenge him.

Such a great gesture by Serbian GOAT to encourage young Prizmic at the net. May these nations build peace in the years to come. Maybe Novak can lead Serbia when he retires from this game?

I see good ingredients and potential I his game. But I’m in the minority here because I wasn’t blow away as such. I’m not sure if there’s a shot / weapon that stands out as the X factor. That’s not a bad thing of cos because he seems to have a solid all-court game. But I saw a lot more in Alcaraz and even Sinner when they were 18.
