I love the sound of Dragon Slippers! I'm going to have to order it from the library when they reopen here in Ireland. It's absolutely something I would have loved when I was younger, but I'm really enjoying the escapism of younger fantasy with the stress of work at the minute. So happy you like the book 😊 I'm very tempted to get it for myself too!

Congratulations on your award. It looks like a beautiful and interesting book. It's a subject I don't really know much about so I hope to read it soon. I think it will be a great starting place even for adults. Botanical Folk Tales really appeals to me. It's now on my wishlist - thank you

The Fifth Season is one of my favorite books/series of all time! I think it is one best jumped into blind. It is strange at first then all comes together at the end of the book in a big "OHHHHHH " moment

OOOHHH! Mad Bad and Sad!!! I've had that on my shelf for years but have never heard anyone on booktube talk about it! If you ever host a read-along or buddy read for it, please let me know!

I think you'll love The Fifth Season. It's an amazing series with such fantastic characters. But just to let you know, it's not solely fantasy, it's kind of a mix of genres. I sadly DnFed Calculating Stars after the first chapter, the writing style just didn't work for me, at all. But I hope it'll go better for you. I do need those Botanical Fairy Tales in my life! That is stunning omw.

If you're wanting more sci-fi recs, I read A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers and it was a book where, and I know this is gonna sound strange but, not much really happens but it doesn't matter because you just love going along for the ride and getting to know all the characters.

Hi Jean! I wanted to let you know that I just finished reading Greek Myths and I loved it SO MUCH! Even though I'm 25, I still found it so engaging and I learned a lot! I'm going to keep this book for a long time and hopefully pass it on to my future kids someday for them to enjoy too ☺️

The calculating stars is addicting! Once you finish the first one you’re going to want to dive into the next ones I’ve already read all the ones that are out and it’s totally worth it the next one comes out next year. I read them in a week

I cannot tell you how flippin' excited I am that you have a copy of Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George! I love (and own) the whole series, and even reread them all earlier this year. I can't wait to hear what you think about it! Jessica is an amazing person-met her at an author reading years ago (and her sister was my high school English teacher!)

I hope you enjoy The calculating stars, the lady astronaut series is one of my absolute favourites. I also really enjoyed The fifth season when I read it, going in not knowing anything is good as it is impossible to summarise what it is about.

Hi Jean, Congratulations on your award! :) Have you read The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell? It's a novel that focuses about the treatment of women's mental health in the early 20th century and it's set in Edinburgh. I loved it and based on the topics, I'm guessing you might like it too!

Have you ever tried the website Abebooks for the Shakespeare editions you want? It is run by Amazon unfortunately, but I find it to be the easiest way to find second-hand books in the exact edition you want by searching for the ISBN

You haven't read Hamlet yet!? It's my favourite play. Everything in it is pointless and I have never seen an interpretation true to what it must have been like in Shakespeare's time, but it's really interesting - if you read it as an adult with experience in the fields of literature, drama/cultural studies. I've seen two renditions of the famous "to be or not to be" monologue that I (almost) like - one from Christopher Plummer and another one from David Tennant. Not Kenneth Branagh's, even though I had expected to like it after seeing him in Much Ado About Nothing, where I loved him as Benedick. Hamlet - no. I think most people don't actually understand the play. They take it literally, without the irony/comic relief, and expect to see some guy in black declaiming on stage - with a skull in his hand - "to be or not to be". Which is wrong, an unfortunate stereotype. Hamlet does not have a skull in his hand in that scene! It's (supposedly) Yorick's skull, so the right cue that goes with it is, "Alas, poor Yorick", not that monologue.

Branagh was a great Laertes. I agree totally about his Hamlet!
