I blame the community almost as much as Bungie. When people tried to protest all the monetization changes, there were just as many if not more people calling them haters and defending Bungie's inexcusable actions, so those players left. Now this is the state the game is in, and you can bet it will only get worse.

This happens to every game where the developer tries to implement more and more predatory monetisation. For example, guild wars 2. There will always be a group of brain dead consumers who will applaud as they're being robbed. They are just that stupid and if they weren't playing video games they'd get scammed of their own volition somewhere else.

Bungie is also the reason why Naughty Dog hasn't released their Last Or Us: Faction multiplayer because Sony took Bungie's opinion as gospel when they had them consult on it. Likely, they didn't see a massive way to rip off the fan base and that can't stand in the world of Bungie multiplayer. I stopped playing D2 when Bungie announced that they were removing paid content for "the good of the game" get F'd Bungie.

I’m terrified for that they’re going to do to Sonys 1st party multiplayer. I’m sure factions was ready to show but bungie saw that there wasn’t enough monetization/live service gimmicks. I’m sick of them and just want a traditional PS2/PS3 era multiplayer game again.

I’m an older player, 53. Destiny has been my favorite game of all time. I’ve sunk 17k hours into Destiny 1/2. I walked away from D 2 prior to this current season. The season model, well, had enough. My biggest issue is paying for the same guns, armor, content over and over. Most of the gun archetypes are from white, Destiny year one models.

I am exactly your age. I kind of quit on D2 right before Lightfail. I lost desire to play it, first time since beta D1. And now that that we have two juggernaut of games out, Diablo 4 and Zelda, and more greatness on the horizon, I have a bad feeling Destiny will stay in my dust. And this is one of the reasons why games like Dark Souls are revered as some of the best games of all time and I enjoy them so much. Besides the DLC’s, there’s absolutely ZERO microtransactions, battle passes, currencies you can only buy with real money, cosmetics, or boosts to progression. Oh, you want that cool armor set that invader has? The saddest part is, no matter how many of us raise our voices with concern and tell Bungie to stop their schemes, they will fall on deaf ears. I have lost faith in the company that made my childhood and teenage years special and got me hooked up on gaming and FPS shooters. This company is not the same Bungie who made Halo 1-reach. This is not the same Bungie who made Destiny 1. These are not the same brilliant minds who were behind Forsaken, the last great era of D2. At this point, even a D3 wouldn’t save our playerbase because we keep on giving in to the soullessness of corporate greed. It is over guys, we will never get those good old days of 2015-18 back. My biggest issues with Bungie is first taking content away that I paid for. I have sunken over 100$ into the game and most of that content was deleted. Also they seem to not be able to be consistent to any any degree with the quality of expansions, they have proven that they are capable of making good expansions but it seems most of them especially lightfall end up being horrible.
@bottom523
@bottom523 8 ай бұрын
Absolutely this. I couldn't continue playing after they removed so much paid content, and what sucked the most is that there was barely any backlash to it. Most of the playerbase just rolled over while at the same time defending Bungie. If the game was so bloated that you had to remove content to continue, maybe it's, ya know, time to make a new game. But no, they didn't want to give up the current playerbase and subsequent cash flow, so the consumers paid the cost.

Per the game's story and it feeling a bit lost from time to time, Jason Jones and a few other key people basically have pushed the concept of overarching heavy handed metaphors tied into philosophical and mythological concepts and references with basically every game's story he worked on, Destiny is no exception and pretty much an embodiment when it comes to a ton of nods to duality and no shortage of various morality parables. This far along I'm not super surprised we've gotten moments of complete junkfood saturday morning cartoon level writing and story pacing because Bungie how much more could you really write about such vague simple complex, especially when there has been total retcons of tons of important stuff. It seems that they've basically been running the clock with Lightfall. The contents of this year were virtually never in the initial plans and Final Shape essentially got what was meant to be the real last year of D2's Light/Dark saga. We basically got confirmation of this when Bungie put out a ton of articles before LF's release that alludes way more to a polished product by the time Final Shape launches and just how much is being put off for later despite an earlier promise(see nature of LFG further on backburner, among other things). That all being said you aren't alone, a lot of people are playing Destiny due to that sunk cost investiture and it has just been a game people tolerate.

I also couldn't play the next expansion due to having to serve in my countrys military. After missing out on two major expansions I decided it was too costly to get back in to the game. It was pretty unfortunate for me since I really liked playing alongside the main story, I can't justify spending so much money and time to keep playing at the same pace I used to just to be able to complete most of the things in the game. Its like looking at an old friend who you were close with become less and less close and over time you eventually don't even remember them. In this case I don't want to remember.

It is only obtainable through microtransactions. So fucking dumb. This is why i preferred warframes system back in the day, you can earn platinum by selling off your prime parts, which you can earn by opening relics in game. Relics are earned pretty much everywhere, some missions give specific relics and are very easy to farm

It's been genuinely depressing to watch BUNGiE transform a game I went 'Wow!' over back in 2015 into a new form of substance abuse. All for a buck. And the industry is largely mimicking this agenda. You knew this was coming when they promoted a social network marketing and targeted advertising hack to CEO, but who knew it would ever get THIS bad? My sense is that they're overestimating the appeal of the "extraction shooter" genre, and that the game they've been pouring all their money into won't be the monumental ca$h cow they obviously think it will. The thing that really turned me off to Destiny was really how Bungie changed as a company. You can see it in everything they make now. They’re more interested in pushing monetization and Identity Politics than they are about making a good game that people want to play. The way they treated Marty, the obvious way that they pushed out descenting voices. Then familiar faces began to leave more and more. It’s all this giant cocktail of gross. I have a hard time playing a game that, in 2014 through to vanilla D2 my friends and I played dozens of not hundreds of hours of. Now I can’t get them to even consider it. Could you do a video where you look into as to why Bungie raised the prices for content despite having aan absurd amount of money from the SONY Buyout now ? @taragnor
@taragnor Жыл бұрын
They realize Destiny is a cash cow and want to keep milking it. Bungie realizes they have their diehard fans that are just hooked on the game and will keep paying. Destiny doesn't run on quality content, it runs on sunk-cost, FOMO and habit-forming mechanics. It shares more in common now with the design of mobile games than it does with standard console/PC games. At this point it's less a game and more a psychological experiment to see how little content they can offer and still get people paying.

That's not how buyouts work. The studio's owners and shareholders were given that money not Bungie as a whole. The company might have gotten some additional funding from their new owners, but nowhere near the purchase price of 3.6 Billion USD. The reason for increased season prices? The same reason that milk and eggs cost more. The value of the dollar is down because of inflation, so prices for everything go up to compensate.
@taragnor
@taragnor Жыл бұрын
@@zanzion3873 Yeah, I know Bungie didn't get the money. My point was that to be even valued in the billions, it means they've got a good amount of resources (otherwise they wouldn't be worth a $3.6 billion purchase). And really if they were taxing themselves to the max to produce the low quality content they release for D2, then why would anyone want to drop billions to buy them? As far as the inflation argument, then why didn't it apply to anything else? Capcom was still able to produce a ton of content for Monster Hunter Rise's expansion Sunbreak. We had Elden Ring which was extremely content rich, and basically anything produced by Rockstar has a crap ton of value in their games. People bashed Cyberpunk, but the game still had a decent amount of content. Other companies are capable of delivering on content-rich experiences, where as Bungie's devs bitch and moan about something as trivial as making new Strikes. No other major game company relies on low effort content as much as Bungie, except perhaps Blizzard with Overwatch 2. The reason they don't is psychological. Destiny 2 is built using mobile game design philosophy. The entire goal is to make playing it a habit. Giving people massive content dumps might burn them out.

What boggles my mind is the prices all these developers have seem to agreed to share. $20 full armour sets being the most relevant. Say a team of five developers design, create and test a new armour set over a couple weeks. The sunk cost to the company is probably in the range of a few thousand dollars. And yet with $20 price tags they only need around a thousand purchases to make a healthy profit. They could make good profit and sell them for a couple of bucks at most !

It’s actually worse than that. I’m a concept artist and have worked in the games industry several times. For an Armor set it would take 1 person about 5-6days..2 days for the finished concept, 1-2 days for the texture maps and a couple of days for the 3d model…then add 2-3 days of testing to make sure the Armor moves and fits character models correctly. Even if the progress is slow we are talking 2 weeks max for one person. Bungie are absolutely raking it in and their „justifications“ for costs are nothing but smoke screens to confuse the addicts…I know coz I used to be one of those Destiny addicts 😉

Destiny 2 is really hard for new players to join, because of the complicated story that just gets thrown straight at your face and the slow paced beginning, but after passing through that (leaving the Cosmodrome) the game was really fun and the mechanics were amazing, but I uninstalled the game after facing the surrounding paywalls that greet you after reaching rank 6 and the 1750 "power cap". I gave up on the ranks and tried doing some missions such as nightfall, but I couldn't get to play it because much of it was behind another paywall (forsaken pack). The last straw was when I thought "fine let's check how much it would cost me to enjoy the full game", 300€ (many of the items were in discount) not even the new call of duty was so expensive on launch day, triple A games were 60€ tops, and Bungie is asking for 300€?

I played D2 because I loved the universe. It has stellar art direction, music, gameplay, and universe. Love it. I spent a lot of my time and money on D2 over the years, though thankfully not even close to the amount a lot of others did. There was a year or so when Forsaken came out that I was really hooked on the game. Doing all the weekly things, grinding loot and power, etc. But I think that's when I got burned out on it. Since then I've always come back for big expansions, but was no longer interested in grinding or looting or the seasonal content. But now, after I came back and gave Bungie $50 for Lightfall and found myself disappointed, I acknowledged what I already knew. D2 will never give me full satisfaction. That's simply not what games of it's kind are designed to do. I figured, why bother coming back even once a year for big new expansions when the good narrative I'm craving within this universe just isn't there? So, just a few days ago I uninstalled the game. It still had some hooks in me despite not playing it very much for years. It was a bit hard to get rid of it. But I did, and I don't plan to go back to it ever. I still like it for all the things it does right. But I'm done. There are far better games to spend time and money on, that are actually a complete experience. So why keep wasting my time on Destiny? A lot of people, myself included, would find it hard to just drop something they've been so invested in with time, money, and in the game itself. But you know what? Screw it. I'm not letting it take any more time or money, despite me still liking the game. I'll continue to play better ones, as I've already been for years now.

This feels like someone is talking me out of an addiction and it feels so true. Great work.

Bungie has straight up said they have no intention of making quality content or "overdelivering". They have straight up said they're only interested in delivering a bare minimum viable product. I know many fans are just holding out for the hopes of Bungie fixing their game but the fact is they won't and they don't care to. Destiny defenders are on weapons grade copium and aren't listening to a single statement from Bungie other than what they want to hear.

Its’s a shame how the industry has become more predatory towards the consumer (also I liked the image at 11:24 what is it?)

This is why I'm so upset about the TLOU multiplayer game being delayed due to an internal review from _BUNGIE_ of all studios. The whole reason people are excited about a tlou multiplayer game is precisely because it's being made by NaughtyDog, a studio that primarily focuses on SP and high quality story based content. We want THEIR take on an MP game, not another damn Destiny clone with a TLOU skin... Multiplayer games _need_ to change, we can't just have the same live service bs copypasted over and over again. We need unique content by a unique studio with a unique perspective.

Makes sense, there’s a common mindset of them that says I bought the game/content so I have to defend it!

the other thing you forgot to mention in the video, for all the faults of warzone, warzone 2, fortnite and other battlepass games. most of them, if not all of them actually gives out premium currency in the battlepass itself incentivising you the player to grind out the battlepass and rewarded by having the ability to decide to buy skins and other things and even get the next battlepass for free. Destiny 2 doesnt even do this. thats crazy, considering how expensive everything is in destiny that a player needs to purchase. jesus.
