Husqvarna 359 is a good pick for seeing how upper transfers work since it has the external caps.

👊ID, The later version Husq 350 come w/ the 45mm 353 cylinder, also has the removable caps

Small grievance... #1 stihl 0 series saws😂 Flat base so with one of Joe mandrels and some sandpaper taped to something flat, you can machine the cylinder if you want to, but isn't necessary. Upper transfers don't need to move much, if at all, leaving only the easy dremel work. Forgiving cylinder plating (no flaking issues.) Bolt on muffler mods so no need for welding or brazing. Consistency and available information. Everybody you could possiblly be asking for advice has played with em. Clone parts if you need em. And you have a stihl 0 series when you're done! Doesn't get much better than that

I know it’s your list, it’s a good one. However, I started with the husky 51 or 55. Cheap & all kinds on the second hand market & lots of aftermarket parts. Loved your 55 play list. Cheers

I've gotten excellent results from porting my pinkway saw
@Magoot2456
@Magoot2456 Ай бұрын
Dude after watching guilty's video about the pinkway I always thought it would be a fun saw to port up :)
@matthewknight5641
@matthewknight5641 Ай бұрын
@@Magoot2456 it's strange how much power the pinkway is making. It'll smoke my 550mark 2. The mark 2 has a muffler mod also.. now the pinkway is a few cc larger but man my pinkway was bought on sale for 105 dollars and is as light as my 550 but it's a lot faster and stronger with an amateur port job, gasket delete and muffler mod.
@Magoot2456
@Magoot2456 Ай бұрын
@@matthewknight5641 if I remember correctly, I think the pinkway is a zenoah clone. Zenoah used to make pretty decent saws. Does your pinkway have a magnesium crankcase?
@matthewknight5641
@matthewknight5641 Ай бұрын
@@Magoot2456 yes magnesium crankcase and it was a surprise to me but all the parts and pieces seemed to be a lot higher quality and more precision parts than some of the big name brand saws. Im pretty sure if the manufacturer put a small amount more into stuff like the chain tensioner and feel of the plastics that it would be a superior saw. Another thing I find strange is how I will grab a purple 100 dollar chainsaw over my husky when needing to cut up some firewood or clean up a down tree. It don't have the professional tool feel like a good Stihl or husky but it is more fun and actually runs just as well or better. Now I'm new to porting and building saws so I'm not the most experienced person with all this and I assume that a well ported Stihl or husky would be a better saw and faster but then again for the price and the weight I just haven't seen anything that's even close to what that pinkway is

I've ported 4 saws now and I've seen gains in all of them and I've also ruined 1 cylinder and ruined 1 piston but for learning how to port and getting practice those zenoh clones are the best for sure. I even bought my dad one and just ordered my son one. I'll port dad's soon as I get home and my son's as soon as Amazon brings it to the house. For our firewood and small farm the zenoh clones are great because we are all fairly small men at 145 lbs so a 50 or 60 cc saw is just right ya know. I know it sounds like I'm a pinkway salesman but it's just that I seen such good gains and the saw was so in expensive that I feel it's a really good deal. I would recommend a good chain tho because the chain that comes on them is 3.25 but has a wide cutter like a 3/8 I mean it's not actually a bad chain it's just faster with a good brand 3.25

Dolmar / Makita is a good choice, remembering that the PS 6400 chassis is same as the 7100 + 7900 and after market Big bore kits available up to about 87 CC I think, Just change the piston and jug and get crazy 😁

Good list that I can't argue with👍🏻 even though it's a clamshell and strato saw, kinda figured you'd have the husky 450 in there since you had a good runner with basic porting.

I would go with your number three option all the way those saws are very available. Easy to work on easy to get parts.

My favorite low brow way to make a pop-up piston is the eye bolt with a large washer chucked in a drill and run over sandpaper.

@thesmallwoodlot433

Poulan didn’t make the cut for a few reasons, first they can be finicky with transfers, and second he didn’t want to discourage anyone by having them become “pulling pro”!

I ordered a 68cc cylinder for thé proyama. Do you think it will bolt up to my pinkway saw?
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Ай бұрын
No. It might bolt up, but the big Proyama saw has a long stroke. If memory serves, I believe it has a 35 or 36mm stroke.

How did you timing advance the green Poulan 4620 style saw you just did since it does not have a keyway and it's built into the flywheel?
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Ай бұрын
I didn't. That is a completely stock saw, no timing advance. But it will still have a keyway, just cast into the flywheel. Cut that on the front side with a file.

The Makita are good saw, don't need one but if I find one cheap.. Well, no matter how cheap, parts are pricey, tax, shipping and if you have to get a local dealer to order

Question. I have a guy on marketplace selling 2 non running 266xp for 500 and he won't separate. Ones a part saw and the other one hasnt run in a while.(PHO)Are they both worth 500?
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Ай бұрын
No. You should be able to find a good running 266 for less than $300. I'd stay away.

That's high, unless you knew of something that was getting hard 2 find(older style clutch, top cover, OEM cylinder...) and you needed it, you may pay that. Without knowing what crank, cylinder, coil setup, I'd say no. I like this chassis saw, if you're not needing something from them, you're just looking at saws, I'd say be patient and they'll almost come 2 you. I've spent a lot of time searching and you can spend a lot of $ thinking you're going 2 miss out on a great find only 2 come across a better deal if I'd just been patient.

The G660 is a simple chassis IMO, very roomy easy 2 work/grind on, The Duke's cylinders are awesome, w/o base gasket has a tight squish! The 660 Farmertec cylinder w/o gasket I needed 2 sand the squish band some. The Wemars from what I've gathered come from the same place as the Garwinner/DeReal, all 3 have the easy start versions and the more square plastics(non easy start) versions.
