I camped out down off Curbar edge about a month ago near bar brook and heard something similar. It was like 2 sets of noises one following the other. Next day saw a huge heard of deer out there with a stag. But the 2 noises heard where from 2 diff animals as if one was following the other

Saw your video and the "panther feasting on a sheep" video in a couple of articles and got a little excited! But I found the panther and sheep video on KZbin and the video is enlarged, so you can see it's either a cow, or a black sheep, bent backwards, cleaning itself. What looks like a tail is actually it's leg propping itself up. Also seems like a sheep is sitting behind it, which would explain the white fur: kzbin.info948FfNWu7Rg?feature=share And the other sheep in the field are way too chilled out. If that were a predator feasting on one of their own, they would be trying to run a mile.
@NoviceWildCamper
@NoviceWildCamper Жыл бұрын
@@tyla5427 yeah I reckon it's definitely a cow licking itself. Although in the wild, once a predator has made a kill the rest of the prey relax as they know they're now safe as its got its food. They only kill to eat so you'd be surprised at how calm they are after the kill and sometimes are very close just being ignored.

I remember on one particular occasion wild camping on my own. It was night time and as you can imagine very dark. I snuggled into my sleeping bag and as I was about to fall asleep I was alerted to the creepiest eeriest sound. No one was near me for miles. In these situations your imagination runs riot . I went outside to see if I could see anything, but nothing. The strange noise continued every so often until I went to sleep. In the morning I discovered what the noise was. A fallen tree was leaning against an upright tree and was rubbing against it creating the strangest sound. Simple as that.

🤣 thanks Rebecca. I survived though so must have been OK 😬 really wasn't sure (and am still not) what it was tbh. The only, and worst, thing I think it could possible be is a big cat. Some have been found in the past in the uk so it's a possibility but what's what's chance? I thought it was my imagination at first hence turning on the recording. Wishing I hadn't now and left it as my imagination. 🤣 dont let it put you off wild camping. It's the best thing I've ever done. And I know of no one who has been eaten on a wild camp yet 👍

Me and my friend walked into a field on a dark night recently. Got to the middle, and we thought there was a couple of bulls bellowing from under a tree, getting ready to charge us. They were really huffing and it was really loud and guttural. We ran as fast as we could and hurdled the gate in a oner. Turned out it was some freakishly large sheep. I've never heard them make a noise like that before. Scared us silly.

The guttural sound was definitely a large cat , I grew up around pumas and have heard numerous sounds they make but I also worked at a zoo and have heard the noises lions leopards and tigers make , that was definitely a large cat........the second noise however wasn't a large cat or deer or canine and it sounded much father away than the large cat purring in your ear earlier. There are strange things in this world a person either acknowledges or they don't and I believe the second noise may have been one of those strange things.

I've found that the best and cheapest tent and pole pegs are available at a hardware store. Just buy a handful of "timber spikes," they drive through Oklahoma soil and rock like butter using a 3 or 4 pound sledgehammer and they do not bend. Plus, they make perfect heavy duty stakes that are easy to use. They're about a dollar or so apiece.

Being a Derbyshire lad and having wild camped in the Peak District for several decades that definitely sounds like the familiar guttural growls of red deer to me. They rut in late autumn, particularly October but stags will practise their growling & barking and managing hinds in September. Definitely not a big cat as far as I’m concerned.

Yeah I didn't know what it was tbh. 90% of the comments reckoned it was a large cat. Some sound guy apparently sampled the sound from my vid and said it didn't have any of the same lines and tones of a dear and was more feline and matched that of a panther or mountain lion. I suppose what we hear isn't always the same buy what do I know 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

@@NoviceWildCamper I’m the same, mine is just opinion from previous similar experiences out on the hills...it could have been many things but I know people love the excitement of big cats roaming wild looking for lone campers to snack on. What I do know is different deer breeds have very different sounds (like dogs do when, for example, comparing the bark of a Great Dane to that of a Yorkshire Terrier). Red deer and roe deer in particular both have terrifying guttural growls around rutting season - particularly disconcerting when heard camping alone at night. Another cracking video.

@@NoviceWildCamper that video shows a cow cleaning itself - no such thing as big cats in Britain I'm afraid...
@NoviceWildCamper
@NoviceWildCamper Жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed that after I watched it on big screen. Looks more like a cow licking itself although there's been many other sightings and big cats were released into the wild many years ago when people were getting fined for keeping exotic pets. Lots were caught but not all. A kid was mauled in Surrey by an escaped puma when i lived there as a small boy. I think there's been too many sightings to rule them out completely. Plenty for them to live on and places to hide.

@@NoviceWildCamper Crikey! Bizarrely it's always a black cat seen, which is incredibly rare in the wild - 'melanistic' jaguars are only born on occasion, so highly doubtful there's a breeding population in the UK. Undoubtedly some released back 'int day with the law change but can't imagine there's many (if any) out there today. Fun to speculate on though all the same...

The uk has had many sightings of large cats, panther etc. Thus stems from when they were kept as exotic pets then it became illegal and people released them into the wild. Have a Google on big cats uk amd you'll find pics and videos of sightings.

The first guttural sounds it made, sounded just like an alligator or crocodile. But I know you’re nowhere near anywhere that they’d be. The fact that just then your camera and phone were acting up.. screams cryptid. 😊

To be honest I think your brain wants you think that it's a big cat so you can control your flight mode and try to calm my instincts tell me this real and was watching given you some ideology of what is present . This sound has a echo that is fluent and mysteries vocal that strings along in vibration mode x

Very strange what I'm interpreting is a standard wave modification lower ground high peak pitch frequency within the perimeter range breaking sound pattern resonance has the echo shifts with movement. I think whatever it was there was more than one . Will get back to you again .

I dunno about you not being able to sleep due to the bizarre noises …… I know for sure I could not sleep after watching the video before I went to bed ! The weirdest dream I ever had whilst wild camping was that a cow had got into my tent and was licking my face. I feel there should be a punchline following that sentence. Something along the lines of “ I woke up to find my cell mate standing over me “.

My best mate recently was out late night metal detecting recently and there was a disturbance nearby in the fields, he shone a light over towards the commotion and saw a dark hunched shape skulking away behind the hedges. He was somewhere around Hyde in Greater Manchester, not far from the Peak District. Where abouts were you camped roughly if I may ask, just for reference.

That noise was a common sight in the Peak District. It was the belch of a pot-bellied midlife crisis adventurer. These animals often pitch in the dark due to struggling with hills due to their obesity. Their natural habitat is made up of Rab gear and anything with 'Hilleberg' displayed. They are not dangerous to other humans but be warned that they can be highly judgemental if they encounter any habitat lesser than a Hilleberg while pitched in high winds on a small hill.
