Awesome install, I have the same lights arriving this weekend and this answered all my installation questions. Great job

I installed the same lights a month ago but just the RGB. I too found the plastic clips pretty useless. I ended up using cable staples as well but the kind you can staple. I did not use adhesive. Of course I had to buy the stapler as well, but it made it very convenient. You can also add a schedule in the app without the need for a smart switch. Good job on the video 👍

Good idea about using the cable stapler. I never thought about that! I'm sure it made the job go a lot faster. How are your lights holding up so far? I wanted to use the smart plug so I can scream at my Alexa to turn them on and off 😆.

The lights are holding up pretty good so far. I do have a section I want to cover up and I got some black cable management tubing. It’s just been too cold to work outside though!

I hear ya about it being cold. I'm not looking forward to climbing the ladder today. It's currently 21 degrees 🥶

cool video. so when you use the silicone glue you ran a whole bead on the back side of the strip to give extra reinforcement? or just in small sections? is that glue good for outdoor use and whats the dry time on that?
@TheMoreYouMOW11 ай бұрын
My goal was to run it the whole length but I got it as close as possible. The glue is what I used for outdoor low voltage installations at work. It didn't hold everywhere but I would say it held up 90%. Not exactly sure about dry time but it was dry by the next day and that was in Temps in the 30's.

Seriously considering/researching these lights. I'm hearing different things on programmability though. Can you pick red / white / blue chasing? red / green chasing? Orange / purple chasing? etc. Trying to hit the US holidays of course. Thanks in advance!
@TheMoreYouMOW Жыл бұрын
So the way they have it set up, you have to search for a color combo that works for your certain holiday. They don't necessarily make a "Halloween" or "Christmas" theme but they have a bunch of different colors and patterns that will work for your holiday. I've only had them for about 3 months so I haven't tried many holidays yet. They do have a green dot in red running also a red dot in white that I used for Christmas this year.

Bought this set of lights last year and was very impressed. They have done great up until yesterday, no app control and no remote ability to be controlled. So now they are automatically on when plugged in and only thing you can have is white. Research says it's the control box and of course it's sold out. Really considering taking them down...just a heads up ..

Man that sucks to hear that. I'll keep an eye out for sure.

Great video! I have a similar 2 story home and am looking forward to how install the 2nd story peaks.

I think my best bet is to go rent a 40 foot ladder and try that route. I don't have $100's of dollars to rent a boom or scissor lift so this will ne my best shot. It will be almost impossible to hammer in the clips if I lay on the roof. The angle is just too odd. Hopefully I can find someone to hold the ladder...
@RubenMartinez-tn2fi Жыл бұрын
I am interested in seeing how you transition from one peak to another and hiding the lights that are not being used.
@TheMoreYouMOW Жыл бұрын
@user-kb5jg5gw4i so what im planning to do to hide the leds I don't want to be seen is to cover them with white or black duct tape depending on the location so it blends in with the roof or the trim. I tried using electrical tape but it doesn't stick at all.

Great info - thanks! Question about having 2 separate "systems" or "zones" installed. Will the app control both at once or is each controlled separately? Just wondering how you keep all the lights / colors synced with 2 different controllers?
@TheMoreYouMOW Жыл бұрын
To be honest, I haven't had a chance to install the leds on the second story yet. From what i have heard, you can control both controllers through the app.
@oldbroncoguy Жыл бұрын
@@TheMoreYouMOW Just installed mine -- you can definitely control multiple installations with the one app. It's pretty cool and super simple!

How did you do the right angles?
@TheMoreYouMOW Жыл бұрын
I didn't do them sharp, just kinda bent them in a gentle swoop, kind of hard to explain. You don't want to do a sharp 90 degree angle or they will break most likely. I put a support clip about 3 inches from the center of the corner on each side if that makes any sense?

What app are you using? Is it that magic lantern crappy app?
@TheMoreYouMOW11 ай бұрын
It was magic lantern but I got the updated controller that uses Tuya. Much better app. I believe that's what the new lights come with, not positive

@@TheMoreYouMOW I wonder if my lights can utilize that new control and I had no idea that the app used depends on the controller being used

@sergiogomez6 do you have the same strips as the ones I posted? If you do, it's plug and play. Just reach out to novostella and they can point you in the right direction to order the new controller

Hey man..how you did the set up the Tyua app with the remote...?
@TheMoreYouMOW11 ай бұрын
@@rodolfomattei I've never tried using the tuya app with the remote, I only use the app to make changes to my lights. All I had to do to set up the app with the new controller was download the app and sync it with the new controller
