See if you can remove the dummy missiles as well Dom. That will be causing a lot of drag on the aircraft due to the cartoon dimensions of the ordinance. Great flight, nice recovery.

I don't think it will make a very big difference as their shape is fairly streamlined and they're not too terribly large

Looked a little underpowered on the take off and could definitely use a stabilizer. Otherwise it is a tremendous success. Well done.

Great upgrade Dom, love the thrust tubes. I guess the wind got you on the landing. 👍🏻
@EssentialRC2 жыл бұрын
More the weight of it. Relatively high stall speed. Using a lighter pack yesterday made it very easy to land smoothly.
@terryperrott85672 жыл бұрын
Good job on the conversion, you may gain some more thrust if you make the end of the thrust tube like 1/8" smaller all the way around.
@hifinsword8 ай бұрын
Agreed terry. That's a good guess of 1/8" I think. The usual Fan Swept Area (FSA) of the intake is the area of the diameter of the inlet, minus the area of the motor's diameter. The exhaust usually gives the best thrust with an area of 85-95% of the inlet's FSA. The thrust tube outlet diameter is always a narrower exhaust diameter than the FSA of the EDF by that difference of 5 to 15% of inlet and outlet FSA.

Good flying! I think a lighter pack would be better for the hand launch too. I added a front skid to my mine to keep the nose up during belly landings and I can keep the TCS Chin pod on the nose. Tried to take off from the grass with the nose skid but can't get enough speed on our lump grass RC field.
@EssentialRC2 жыл бұрын
Good tip! Will consider that myself. I fly off grass and don't really want to shave the paint and foam off with each landing.

Always entertaining Dom! So other than a lighter pack do you think it may need cheater holes/louvers for more intake?
@EssentialRC2 жыл бұрын
Don't know unless I try. Flies OK on 4S2700 as is. It might help a little but it's never going to be that fast. It's very fat and draggy. Watch the next vid (currently available to Members) and see what you think...

Nice video! Do you have more footage of the planes conversion it's self? I have the conversion kit for NIB Fatty but I am hesitant to start cutting away on a new plane with no knowledge of where to cut. I'm also not sure what to use to make the cuts. Is it a razer blade or a saw? How deep did you cut, etc. etc.?Thanks.

When you Y-harness the two ESCs, it is required to disable one of the BEC?

Well...pusher is a valid power system although a bit dated. Twin EDF sounds much better. Wait until you see it on a 4S2700 pack. Transformed it. We couldn't believe how slow it would fly.

Thanks for sharing! I was watching some other cartoon plane, and the algorithm took me to your channel. It looks like there's plenty of room in there. I wonder if I can 3D print an EDF support to house a 70mm or even a 90mm!!! I noticed that you didn't place the ESCs to where they get cooled by the air flow? I hope they don't over heat on you.

@PlaneFunRC2 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider trying 2 4s 2200 mAh packs and see if that gives additional power. Have it so that way each ESC has its own individual battery. That might just increase the power quite a bit.
@EssentialRC2 жыл бұрын
It would be way too heavy with combined 4S4400. It was bad enough on this flight with 4S4000. Watch my latest vid with 4S2700. Flies so much better.

Looking at the inlet size I think the EDFs are a little starved for air, maybe a couple of cheat holes would help them breathe better.

Might want to open up the intakes as they’re very narrow. That’ll allow for greater airflow to the ducted fans. Leave the weapons on though. Can’t have an unarmed F-14 flying around. Turn and burn baby!!

There are already big holes in the side letting in more air than you can see through that front intake.

I think the intakes openings need shaving open bigger and/or at least chamfered somewhat, as they currently are quite thick & flat on the edges - although that does provide some model resilience/toughness, and seem to me, too 'small' at lower speeds, without as much ram air into them for the motors/fans potential. Also, your exhaust ducts might be slightly mis-aligned if you have trimming (drift/rolling/skidding yaw) issues higher speeds. But considering the bulbousness. it fliees better than you/I think it should! Well done !! :-P ;-)

@@EssentialRC sounds good, can't wait to see, how was flight time with the 2700?
@EssentialRC2 жыл бұрын
~3 minutes with very gentle throttle use. I was at 50% for most of the flight. Full throttle on downwind passes didn't really make it go much faster.
