Overall, this is a really compelling vehicle. It has good utility without being too bulky and cumbersome. Styling is pretty good. I like that they haven't given into the oversize grill trend like so many other manufacturers. They got a little carried away with the black plastic cladding though, especially on the fenders. Also, you can't complain about the price. If I were in the market for something like this, it would be on the short list for sure.

While putting in the 2.5-liter engine is an improvement, Subaru should have installed the CB18 1.8-liter turbocharged engine found on the Levorg, which just went on sale in Japan. The CB18 has slightly less horsepower but the high torque peak (221 lb-lt) would have made the Crosstrek much better to drive, especially at high altitudes.

Were I shopping in this category, I'd definitely consider (and likely buy) a Crosstrek Limited. Having had experience with Subaru's AWD system in my 2019 Forester, there's frankly no comparison between it and the systems offered in the other brands, particularly the "passive AWD" systems used by Honda, Nissan, and others. Nothing more frustrating in snowy, icy, slippery situations than waiting for the front wheels to slip, and then having the rear axle kick in. The Subaru system is as seamless as the full-time AWD system we had in our 2006 Buick Ranier.
@James-il3tq4 жыл бұрын

This is the advantage of Symmetrical AWD as it always sends power to all the wheels. However, the disadvantage is lower fuel economy, and parts tend to wear out sooner if always used, even at speed when not needed. Agree that Nissan, Honda and Toyota's AWD are quite lackluster, reactive, and need some wheel slip to kick in until turned on. However, there are some other options, such as the Mazda one, or Audi Quattro that reportedly preloads the rear wheels, and can shift power as needed much faster to the rear wheels. I really wish the manufacturers would be more forthcoming on the 'Secret sauce' behind their AWD systems, as they are clearly not all equal.

Honestly this is a really competent vehicle. I bought an Outback but seriously considered the Crosstrek as well. This seems like it has a lot going for it at a price point that's lower than most other vehicles which oftentimes charges you more for AWD. It's a bit unfortunate that the led headlights are not included until the limited trim but I suspect that is where they cheaped out a bit in order to make this car hit that low price point. I quite like its styling and think for the money, it's a great vehicle with great safety features, price point, reliability, and AWD with adequate ground clearance. Every other video I watch and read through comments there are always a small that demands a turbo or a manual..There are obvious reasons why a small block turbos are horrible and you don't want one 1) Small block turbo burns more gas, because they super inefficient engines. You can compare these 1.5L turbos to a 2.5L in the crosstrek and crosstrek still comes out on top in fuel efficiency.... 2) Asking for a wrx engine? just buy a wrx.... 3) even if a turbo exist, its gonna be a 1.5L turbo which you get equivalent horsepower to the 2.5L naturally aspirated. it will not give you more power.....There is no efficiency gains from doing this. 4) A turbo does not make your car feel peppier, what you people want is a peppy car that makes it feel like it has more power. This is not the result of a turbo this is the result of the transmission that is tuned for torque. There is a reason why all these small block 1.5L turbo all have way higher torque figures to compensate for the smaller engine. 5) A 3.0L v6 is more efficient in power and gas than your 1.5L turbo or a 2.0L turbo. V6's in Acuras and Lexus gets the same similar mileage as subaru's own 2.4L turbo. 6) MSRP of the car will increase, general overall maintenance cost of a car with a turbo is more expensive. Small block turbos are prone to high failure rates and Honda already has regretted it and taken notice Not to mention these small block turbos are subject to such high compression ratios, eventually ur pistons or engine will fail. Honda is the first manufacturer to regret putting small block turbos www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/honda-extends-warranty-on-troubled-turbo-engines/#:~:text=That%20problem%20has%20raised%20concerns,stalling%2C%20especially%20in%20cold%20weather.&text=Some%20vehicles%20could%20experience%20a,cylinder%20misfires%20or%20engine%20noise. And most importantly: 95% crowd asking for a turbo will never consider buying a car in this segment either way. Your complaints are moot. Forestor XT turbo barely sold compared to regular models. This is the same case with Honda CRVs, and even mazda CX5 themselves. Its not what you lot want, its what the majority of the buyers are demanding, and clearly majority of this segment buyers do not need a turbo. And lastly, Dont make an excuse about the fact turbos are good at high elevations. Small block turbos won't help you at high elevations when you literally need to push beyond 5000rpms to even get that turbo spooled up to provide that power. And what kind of driver tolerates their econobox engine noise at 5000 rpms?

@@twystedhumour exactly and most of the people will never consider this segment of vehicles in the first place cause all the complainers already drive a 3L v6 or way higher turbo charged engines they will never downsize. Besides a turbo in this segment is considered a premium option for compact crossovers and compact suvs...who is gonna shell out 42 to 45k cdn ( 32 to 35K usd) in price tag for it? Most people buy cuvs aren't looking for that price ranges. The cheapest is kia but premium in the seltos is literally around the same price as the sport 2.5L crosstrek

I also thought I was going to buy a CX30 until the dealer gave me one for a day. The only "styling" on the outside was flat black plastic on sheet metal that looks like it melted. Ended up buying a 2021 Crosstrek Limited (prettier red than Mazda to boot) , the only really annoying thing on the Subaru was the Stop-Start and I bought a $90 plugin device to kill it. For me, the main problem with the Crosstrek is the packages. The only trim to consider is the Sport trim with the 2.5L and without the leather. Yes, I want the blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert, but it is $1,600 and comes with a moon roof I don't want or need. So equipped, it is almost $30,000. At this price, why not get a larger CR-V or RAV-4, which have these safety systems? If I get the CX-30, I can save money and get AWD with Trail-Assist and all the safety systems for $26,400. Lastly, I can get the Impreza, without the ground clearance I very rarely need, with the safety systems for only $25,500. The only way to make it make sense is to uncheck the box, skimp and not get the safety systems.

As much as I hate SUVs, this is close enough to the Impreza that I would probably consider it. Really, I don't need the lifted heights because I'm not one that goes off road. I really wish Subaru would put that 2.5L engine in at least the Sport trim of the Impreza. That would make the Sport really peppy and a lot more sportier (hence the trim title). C'mon, Subaru, what do you say? Give the Sport trim the 2.5L engine!

It is a raised Impreza. 8.7 ground clearance. Standard AWD. It is best in the class. Mazda is more fun on the street, but the crosstrek is better in the snow. Subaru needs to discontinue the 2.0 and make the 2.5 standard. Make the 2.4 turbo as an option. I own a 2.0, and it is just too weak. I also own a 2020 Forester. The Forester has a better option package. But Subaru needs to offer the 2.4 turbo in the Forester. And make it available in ALL trim levels. You can get the Forester for,almost the,same price as a crosstrek.

Hi Alex, if someone can spare the extra $2500, would you recommend the Forester sport over the crosstrek sport? Forester sport has more interior room, power driver seats and rear USB ports. "Combined legroom" and "rear seat headroom" are almost useless to a single driver. I'm 6' 3". It would be a lot more beneficial to me as a buyer to know the maximum front legroom and headroom. Why not break them out on the graphic?
@stephenhendricks1034 жыл бұрын
The Crosstrek's first row legroom is especially generous at 43.1". But that eats into the 2nd row legroom that's especially cramped compared to rivals (36.5"). So compared to the Seltos (41.4"/38.0") the dimensions are almost identical (79.4" vs 79.6") The combined legroom is especially important because the adjustable legroom in the first row enables allocations as needed between the first and second rows.

I test drove one of these recently. I'm right now torn between this and the Impreza Sport hatchback (in my opinion, the better handling of the Impreza lineup opposed to the other trims). While the Impreza Sport drove close to a low-to-the-ground sports car (just not as fast, but I'm not complaining about that), the Crosstrek Sport had a "dune buggy" feel to it that I did quite enjoy. It would just come down to if I can find a good deal on either a new, certified, or used one, and if I can find them in my area (used Impreza Sport hatchbacks are especially rare in the St. Louis area).

With the success of the Crosstrek I really wish Subaru would offer an STI badged trim level with a detuned version of the 2.4 turbo in the Ascent. While the 2.5 feels stronger and sounds better in this car than the 2.0, it is still begging for around 230hp. The same can be said for the Forester.
