Reference fields are a great way to point to a record on another table - but what if you want to point to any record on any table? Chuck will show you how you can use a Document ID field do to the job.

Cool Session Chuck. What I did not see how you discuss the dot-walking - my feeling is that it is tough, right?

Hi Daniel, great question. Yes, it would be difficult to do with a document ID field. While the result is still a GlideRecord you can't be certain that a dot-walk operation will work because of the dynamic nature of the record being used.

Hello! I'm using client script to set the sys_id of a record into the document_id field but I got working the table but not showing the display value "table + record" =(

Treat it like a sys_id field. Also use the table_name field to further filter on which table if you like.
