If she was Steward wouldn't have freaked her out so much, she would have fought alongside Will as a wolf rather than rely on the gun and she wouldn't be able to ride horses since she would terrify them the same way Will does. In the end Will ends up infecting her with the curse after they had sex, which is why Laura starts to exibit enhanced senses and golden eyes.
