Nox (Wakfu) - Villain Review #52

Nox is the main antagonist from the first season of the Netflix French Anime, Wakfu. Today I'm going to breakdown, analyze, and have some fun with Nox. I apologize in advance for how I pronounce the dragon guys' name, as well as using clips from the English dub.

Nox is a very interesting character, and I agree it's criminal how uninvolved he was in the story at large. But the most interesting thing about him, at least to me, is how he is one of the few villains that, technically, succeeds.

@@marcopohl4875 He still did win against Yugo, managed a feat that nobody has ever managed, and "kill" the same character twice in a single episode. Sure he was way short of his goals, but he did go back in time and win every battle he's had.

Being one who likes mechanical clocks and steampunk based stuff, I love how Nox is based around mechanical things and how he's even called "Nox the Clockmaker". I find him amazing!

It's actually because he is a clockmaker, his whole journey started as a humble clockmaker who found a weird cube.

The clock thing also involves the fact he brcame a xelor, which use time magic to aid in his goals

He does have a episode all to himself...or special that shows his origins and fall to madness. When you learn of the Cube's origins it becomes a lot more sinister when you see the next big villian.

Nox basically wins the fight against Gougaloragran (pronounced Gru-gol-or-ah-gran), but Grougal uses the last of his Wakfu to make an Astral Projection telling the Brotherhood of the Tofu to go protect the Tree of Life but Nox lost all of Grougal's Wakfu in the process...? So essentially he won, but at the cost of losing loads of Wakfu from the Eliacube (pronounced Eel-ee-ah-cueb).

yup. he won the fight, but failed in his goal of Harvesting the dragon's wakfu, leading to the combat being a net loss for his goal as he had to use quite a lot of Wakfu to win

a better thing. In french we really feel the madness of nox. As he speaks his voice changes. Going faster and slower. Getting high pitched at times and just alternating speed. Mixed with the ragged sounds of clocks in the background from his inventions. It as a unique effect. Its hard to tell if hes changing because hes unhinged or if its his inventions.

I never fully understood Quilby, aside from being a nihilist. I guess after someone as human as Nox, throwing out someone as Alien as Quilby just confused me. It would be nice to see more of him

@@marcopohl4875 Qilby is immortal and got trapped into a white void so basically he lost all sense of morals since he is kinda a god compared to others. A quick little summary.

@@marcopohl4875 Qilby was basically cursed and no one knows why. The 12 first eliatropes and dragons always come back to life when they die because their energy goes back into the Dofus (the egg) they were born from, but in the process they forget all their memories. Qilby and his sister Shinonome don't forget, and after thousands of years of remembering everything and seeing his people die countless times, after learning every square meter of his planet, Qilby felt trapped and started to become insane. To force his people to explore the universe with him, Qilby started a war with a more powerful race by stealing one of their most precious artifacts, and him and his people fled and settled on another planet after a while. This new-found peace lasted for some time, but Qilby once again started to feel trapped and provoked yet another war, except this time his role was discovered and to punish him Yugo trapped him in the white dimension from which no one can escape without the Eliacube (killing Qilby would serve no purpose since he'd be reborn, so he had to be locked up). Fast forward to Wakfu S2, Yugo and Adamai unknowingly set him free, and Qilby after realizing what happened wants to go back to exploring the universe with his people. He doesn't want to settle anywhere because he knows he'll end up crazy, so he needs regular new doses of discovery which is also why he's such a scientist/researcher who conserves extinct species in his lab.

I mean even the fact he fails shows everyone how his plan was actually sound. He killed everyone but the MC, destroyed the tree, but the moment he came back in time and changed the future, it suddenly had never happened. He really is the embodiment of the phrase "what if you could go back in time and fix your mistakes?"

Yup. he was right that if he succeeded all his evils would be erased and no one would even remember anything apart from him. Too bad for him (and everyone) that in the end, 200 years of harvested wakfu could only allow him to go back a measly 20 minutes...

Wow, great review! You definitely deserve more subs man. And I totally agree, Nox is so awesome, cool, and you just feel so bad for him. But, personally, I felt even sadder for Qilby in Season 2. And btw, will you make a review on him as well? His reasons might not all be justified (he did some pretty awful stuff), but I can't do anything else than adore him and feel bad for him just because of all the tragedy he suffered through. Oh and Julith as well! She's the antagonist of the Dofus movie. Since it's a movie, of course she doesn't get as much development, but she's still a pretty good villain overall, the creator himself (ToT he's called) even said she's his favorite haha I'm a big Wakfu fan and I know a lot about the lore, so if you need me for some info or something if you do make these reviews, just message me here Oh and one more thing, the English dub fricking SUCKS. I knew it was bad, but wow, the voice actor who voiced Nox in english is so bad he almost ruined his character lmao

Great review! I just wish you watched the french dub instead of the English one. In the original, Nox comes off as less cocky and more... batshit insane (which makes total sense since he’s spent 200 years obsessing over his objective)

note: in the original french dub, Nox is all BUT calm and collected, instead sounding like an insane, unstable maniac while still at the same time still clearly being intelligent, often cackling in amusement even as he is getting stomped. Add that to his sometime eerie, mechanical movements, and its VERY clear that he may not have lost his wits, but his sanity however is long gone.
