Skrat you've done videos with your thoughts on Character Growth and HP, will you make one for Class-based VS Skill-based and why you've chosen your approach for NUTS?
@asquirrelplays3 ай бұрын
This one has actually been in the "suggestion box" for a while now, and one I'd like to do. I've been trying to get into other TTRPGs first so I can bring more examples/thoughts, but it might be about time to do it! Although - nobody had your suggestion on the part about NUTS. That could be a fun topic/angle to approach it with.

My most popular bar tender came from a game I ran in high school. Every time the party met an npc I rolled randomly to determine age and appearance resulting in a local pub being run by a 7 year old girl claiming to be a halfling.

I mean ... that is pretty good. But it does raise a lot of questions.
@num1otori1433 ай бұрын
Tons if questions. I'd say at least a third of them would be great adventuring hooks for the players. Thank you I will also now be putting a small child in charge if a tavern in a game.

I'm totally not holding him hostage. I also definitely did not still have a gun pointed at him in his second appearance in the video.

One of my most effective, go-to NPC archetypes is the "friendly nana". Tables invariable respond in one of two ways: (1) immediately glom on to the gramma and be willing to die to protect her, or (2) be insanely suspicious that she's some sort of hag or witch. Either way, it's a treasure trove for narrative hooks!
@asquirrelplays3 ай бұрын
see, what you gotta do is get them thinking she's a witch or something terrible. Have them get to know her while being suspicious the entire time, then finally reveal that she really is just a sweet old lady and actually has a horrendously tragic backstory. But they find that out either right as she's dying or immediately after. Of course, after telling the party she was glad they visited her but always felt like there was a wall between them. If your players aren't emotionally scarred by the end of the adventure are you even GMing? (I kid, play however you want)

9:28 We once met a priest who the DM described as a bit too muscled for the clothes he was wearing. My first reaction was "this guy is the general of the army we're fighting against isn't he". that "he's to buff" became a point of ridicule about me jumping to conclusions. until later in the campaign at least...
@asquirrelplays3 ай бұрын
see? Somebody in another comment said they have a player that's paranoid about everyone and I told him that's gonna be the guy that saves the party or at least gets to say "I told you so". Anyway, something something "welcome to the church of swol, let me show you the whey"

There's one other kind of Bartender, the Nerce Joy effect. Where ALL of the Bartenders are look-a-likes and are related. /Joke In all seriousness, this is helpful and you gave me an idea for a Bartender for a Westmarsh Campaign setting.

Nice! Glad it sparked some ideas. That's the goal. Although, I kinda like nurse Joy bartender. I'm just gonna put that in the back pocket for now.

good to know! I've been wanting to try out some "workshop" style things instead of just talking about things in a vague sense. Actually put some of it into practice, you know?

My go to bar is always a fishmonger/tavern near the pier called Slurry King, and the bartender is like the dads from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Luca... and he serves drinks mixed with fish slurry like the Tuna Tonic, Blowfish Brandy, Salmon Schnapps, or the Walleye Whiskey... But now im thinking a squirrel bar/brewery would be pretty interesting, with acorn mash... all kinds of tree-nut alcohols... and Chick-fil-A
