Another less publicized part of the story that was extremely frustrating seeing was there was a teacher who was blamed for propping the door open for the shooter to enter the building. She was arrested for it and they put out that statement. However security footage reviled that she'd actually ran down the hall to the door and kicked out the door jam and locked the door. She risked her life knowing there was a shooter coming to that door. She raced and beat him to the door and closed it in front of him. She's one of the few heroes in this horrible tragedy and they villainized her and never corrected the lies they said about her. To this day she's still receiving harassment unjustly.. 😞🙏

This is the dark side of misinformation that people don't pay attention to, and the media don't do enough to retract any incorrect statements that caused it in the first place. Real people who were either innocent or outright heroes like this woman get dragged through the dirt or worse because of it.

@skylerdann5712

@@user-nz6bk7lf8u I'm pretty sure that's what she tried to do. The correction was just never as viewed as the original story tho. The original was part of the event itself and everyone was watching it. The correction was weeks later in a brief mention. It's also very difficult for a regular person to sue a big media company with a team of lawyers who specialize in practicing defamation and liable laws. She's just an underpaid elementary school teacher. Being able to take on a media corporation like that is gonna cost a lot of money that she doesn't have. And things like defamation and liable laws are famously extremely difficult to prosecute. It differs depending on the state but in general you have to prove a lot of things that are almost impossible to prove. You have to prove malicious intentions and prove they were knowingly lying. You have to prove that they knew that what they were saying was completely untrue. Unless you have evidence of them actually admitting to it then it's basically impossible to prove. There's also a lot of different standards for what can constitute slander. Sometimes it's only if they're alleging criminal activities. Or depending on how much of a departure from the truth it was. You also have to prove you're telling the truth. The bar to get a conviction on a defamation case is extremely high. In cases where it works there's a lot of very blatant and damning evidence. Like to fox news vs dominion voting machines or the Alex Jones vs sandy hill elementary victims. They had texts come out in the discovery process that provided proof they knew they were reporting lies. They had texts between each other admitting to each other how this was all made up and untrue and they're doing it specifically to hurt the company and to push a false narrative that dominion had stolen the election. That's the bar this underpaid elementary school teacher has to reach. Its a mount everest for her to climb if she can succeed in it. I hope she can but it's extremely unlikely. She's better off just trying to reach a settlement outside of court with the network. Take a payoff that's a fraction of what she's actually entitled to just to get something out of it. Otherwise it's a very long and drawn out court case that she likely wouldn't win.. media networks are very rarely held accountable for stuff like this. Even when it's something so disgusting to lie about. Like they genuinely tried to ruin her life and put her life in danger. That's a wild accusation to make from a source that should be way more responsible. In my opinion the person who made up that lie for whatever reason should be held criminally accountable for it. It should be a imprisonable offence to lie about someone like that. But that's the power imbalance we have in this country. If the media wants to bury you they can make it happen and the truth will never be as loud and reach as many people as their lies..

Well, there's different training between a active shooter situation and a barricaded suspect. Not all the info is out (body cam footage), and could simply be a fucked up game of telephone. Everyone's safety should matter. If it was a barricaded suspect, barging in will only cause the suspect to shoot the hostages. Unfortunately it wasn't and the people in high command should receive some sort of penalty or punishment for the fuck up. Personally, if they allowed teachers who have had training in firearm safety and handling, to bring in their personal firearm in order to guard the children from an intruder entering the classroom. That could end the shooter right then and there, and save the entire classroom and the rest of the school he wasn't already inside.

From a current old man, I've been hearing this talking point for probably nearly as long as you've been alive. Many decades. This wont solve any problems. Not one. Wanna know how I know? Because for all the years I've been hearing this, police have year by year upped the de-escalation training. There is more now than there has ever been. There is also, now, more police incompetence than ever. More dereliction of duty. More corruption. There are also, probably, more GOOD cops than ever as well. There are more cops period. But overall, bad policing is rising concomitantly with increases in de-escalation training. So CLEARLY this is not a solution. The actual reason for all of this? Most precincts will not qualify an officer who has an IQ that is too HIGH. You read that right. This is well documented and the courts have OK'd it. All police officers are given short-form IQ tests by the agency, and if you score too high you literally do not qualify to be an officer. The ostensible reasoning is they would get bored and quit the job, and low turnover is allegedly very important in policing. Gotta have low IQ individuals that follow orders well. So that's who they hire. And if you think for one moment I'm making this up, just simply google "policy about IQ too high to be an officer" and you'll see it.

That's where gun advocates fall apart. They talk about being raised to respect firearms.... but then dont admit that you MUST be a gun owner to teach someone else that kind of respect. They love talking about how it's single parents and the family unit falling apart, but don't mention it was THEIR responsibility to train the next generation. If people don't respect guns, that's on THEM, not US. The best example for this is in places like Switzerland. They have a massive community of gun owners that puts in real effort to teach the next generation to respect the power of guns, and it works fucking amazingly. The problem in the US is this whole exaggerated declaration of PERSONAL freedoms. Some don't properly teach the next generation because they believe in FREEDOM and the ability to own the firearm without ANY respect or training with it which, over generations, corrodes away the value of gun respect across the entire gun communiry. I mean, I've seen SO many videos of NRA certified trainers that walk on range while someone is shooting, or they accidentally shoot their gun while demonstrating simple tasks. Respect needs to be TAUGHT and gun owners in America utterly failed to pass that knowledge down. This isn't the current generation of gun owners fault, it's something that's been corroded away over many generations, and I truly believe it came to head in 1903 when the federal government reclassified militias after a vast majority of gun owners (back then you needed to agree to being conscripted to own ANY guns) deserted or didn't even show up to the Mexican American War. Since then, there's been declining respect for guns being replaced by the belief that guns are a set right without ANY responsibilities attached to it... look at texas, for instance, where you don't need a license or even need know what a gun looks like to buy it one from a private dealer.... where's the respect training gone? Does it not even matter anymore?

It is our freedom and right to own a firearm but I do agree that proper training for firearms are a must if you wish to own them. I can see some saying that I'm contradicting myself in saying this but I believe that if people wish to own a firearm, they should at a minimum have a hunters safety license so that way people have that base knowledge on firearms and firearms safety.

A lot of those kids are scarred for life being through that even if they weren't shot. One girl covered herself in blood, and played dead. Imagine that fear. The cops failed and there's something behind it besides the cops just stood down. This was allowed to happen and if you think this government is above black flags and psy ops then you have NO CLUE what's going on in this country. The kid shooter was on a discord server speaking to 7 FBI personal before this. They could of stopped it before it started they were watching him and he posted a video after his killed his grandmother and said he was going to go shoot up a school. He ran his vehicle into a tree and it took him 15 minutes before he was able to get into the school. They have footage of him walking around the school before he entered. SEVERAL MINUTES of him walking around before hand and he could of been taken out then! The cops and the SWAT team had done several drills in that very school for this kind of situation! You bring up a good point about the military, I served in the Marines in the late 2000s so I cant really speak for today but when I was in boot camp it was more than just being yelled at. You're handed your rifle day one and before you even fire a shot out of it you learn how to take it apart, clean it, the conditions of the weapon, ect. Once you get to the range, at least back in the day, they straight up just told you if you flag anyone with a loaded weapon you're getting shot. Would they actually do it? IDK but if you know anything about boot camp I'm sure you can understand most recruits are more afraid of their DI than God. It goes hand in hand with what that other gentleman said about bringing their guns to school in the 70s and shit it wasn't a problem them because they were getting the proper training at home. We're talking about a time before internet and video games and while im not saying video games cause violence I'm saying modern young adults today have used video games to replace all the activities we did before them and the internet really has reshaped our culture mostly for the worst. The platform of free spreading information turned into the platform of clicks and echo chambers.

The second amendment is not about hunting, it's not about "sporting" or plinking. The second amendment is about the preservation of life and security against all threats, domestic and foreign. That said, we are in the modern world, with modern problems. Also, you should have to be 21 to purchase a firearm.

For my country's case, EVERY actions we police officers made are accountable. I feel like only in the US that the accountability stuff are not enforced properly. So many loopholes etc. There is also the issue of "screening" on who can actually join the police force. That's because Singapore make all the NSmen do saikang (Shit) work, so the regulars are free to do actual frontline work (respond to emergencies). In US, they don't have conscription to force citizens to do National Service, so their officers are already quite limited and they don't have conscripts to help them. Here is a take from a german: If a german want to have a gun they have to be at least 18 years old, your backround is getting checked and your mental state, you have to take a test and you have to prove that you have a good reason to own a gun, for example beeing a member in a rifle club, beeing a hunter and so on. Otherwise you dont even get a permission to get a gun. And then you have to lock it away seperate of the ammunition. And the police can check it. But our police is trained for at least 3 years and in that time they go through a ton of gun training, how to stay calm and so on. THAT is freedom, to know that you dont have to be scared going to school or even out of the door.
@GamingPiper
@GamingPiper 2 жыл бұрын
Small addition: In germany there is also a restricted firearms license for cal 9mm blank and pepper cartridges as well as pepper spray, tasers, bows, crossbows, blowguns, slingshots, 4.5mm CO² Rifles and cal .68 pepper self defense rifles you just have to fill out a 3 question single sheet form, pay ~70€ (depend on the Landkreis) and wait 2-6 weeks (atm it's a longer wait, about 2 months as there are a huge amount of licenses requested since russia invaded ukraine). With this license you are allowed to carry (depending on your local Landratsamt) sometimes with the restriction of concealed carry) your firearm in public but not at events like sports games, concerts, etc. An addendum to the german weapons laws this year makes this restricted license not only needed for publicly carrying your self defense weapon but also for buying or owning it.

Saw a few comments along the lines of, "Do you really want to spend tax dollars to do mental health checks on every kid, handle psychiatric care, and give them special treatment from 5 - 18?" Yes! People who flinch at the price tags of this sort of thing always fail to understand that it's ultimately an investment. It's not just preventative measures against violence. You're making millions of kids more productive in school, which will translate into better jobs as adults, which means more taxes being paid into the system down the line. It eventually pays for itself, and then some. I am so sick of this batshit compartmentalized way that a lot of Americans view the economy. Anything that has a cost, means someone is getting paid. Which means they are going to go out and buy services or products in the economy, and then those people go out and buy stuff, and so on. It all circles back into the economy and evens out after a year or two, except now you have these great services that make sure everybody is more productive and useful in society. Almost every other 1st world country has figured this out ages ago. But Americans are so worried about someone getting something for free, when they don't understand what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Lots of Americans mentally silo themselves and their wallets off from the rest of the country, as if we aren't all interconnected by a large economic engine that has feedback loops between all of us. this is not vietnam, we will not be backed by both a domestic government and foreign powers, it will not play out in the scenario you say. so many people have researched this. not to mention the us will have ground superiority simply because they know the land in iraqu and afghanistan even vietnam we did not know the lay of the land this time the military will know every inch of land and will have pre built defenses strong holds. the us has contracts with almost every major gun company and weapons manufacturer in the us and even in places abroad, we would run out of ammunition in a heart beat. i used to think EXACTLY as you do and i am pro gun i dont like the current gun laws in nyc but the state as a whole has some pretty crazy regional gun laws. and i say i dont like the gun laws in nyc even in the wake of two mass shootings but it needs to be harder to own a gun while still having the right to, if your competent enough (i should add i believe gun ownership should be allowed everywhere) and the sad reality is that "the need to overthrow a tyrannical government" is a terrible excuse when the fight is useless. this is not vietnam, this is not iraqu, this is not afghanistan you can not pull off successful guerrilla warfare in this type of environment.
@williamofblue933
@williamofblue933 2 жыл бұрын
@@BTBama The goal of guerrilla warfare is not to win, it is to not let the other side win. It is more of a fight economically on on moral. In this case, yes, in the beginning, the tyrannical government would most likely have a large advantage. But over time, with enough damage to the economy and the every day lives of people, they would lose the will to fight. The government, holding more destructive weapons, would then resort to using them; in hopes of ending the conflict quickly. This, however, may cause the government forces to look brutish, and the resistance would gain support. Also, both sides of the civil conflict would receive aid from foreign powers. Especially China, Russia, and Iran. Because they would hope the conflict does as much damage and drags on as long as possible. In my opinion, if the conflict ends quickly, the tyrannical government forces win, but if it drags on, the odds for the resistance surviving increase every moment.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in Texas. During those years you could go out to the parking lot of most high schools in Texas and gather up enough guns to arm a small militia, but there were no school shootings. School shootings did not become a thing until after the Brady Bill and much more stringent gun laws were already in place. Why have gun crimes gone up as access to guns (legally) has been restricted? Is it because of illegal guns moving across the Southern border? That has also been going on since before the school shooting trend too. If its not the guns or the gun laws, then maybe the problem is the people. Or how we are treating people. And this is not just a U.S. problem. Violent crime has been on the rise worldwide for 50+ years now.

I couldn't have said it better myself. People tend to act like more rules, restricting or outright banning tools or objects, will make an issue go away. All the while, never asking the question of what issues will be created by making said restrictions and bans in the first place, by proxy overcomplicating the problem and malforming it further. Hopefully in the future, more people will realize the issue is in all actuality much more simple rather than super complicated. Mental health has been on the decline. Therefore desperate people will do desperate things. Objects do not just get up and walk around. Therefore we can assume that people are more often the problem, probably in more ways than one. Those with unreported mental illnesses will also become much more common with time since the decline has obviously increased. Therefore violent outbursts and seeking for attention will become more common. The logic is simple, yet misconstrued by those with a narrative to push, or an audience to impress. It's hard, and requires bravery. But confidence is key.

Those who are more anti-gun/anti-2A LOVE to freak out about the fact that yes, technically any normal civilian can legally own a machine gun, and some folks can even legally own explosives. While this is true, there's a lot to unpack with that because they aren't exactly cheap in terms of time or monetary investment. Those who don't hold a Federal Firearms License (FFL) or Federal Explosives License (FEL) cannot legally own a post-1986 machine gun or any explosive ordnance respectively. If you want a machine gun and DON'T have the FFL, you're limited to machine guns made before 1986, which is when the restriction was put in place. These include MAC10/11 submachine guns, some older M16s, MP5s, and even M60 LMGs, which can range from $10k to $30k to $50k to even $70k+ respectively. VERY few people have that kind of money to spend on a gun like that, so it's essentially a non-issue since the vast majority of people aren't willing to either spend the money or take the time to go through the vetting process, or both. If you DO have an FFL, you have to take it a step further and have a Special Occupations Tax approval which I believe costs $1k/yr to keep, in addition to your yearly FFL fees which are around $500/yr (essentially, an FFL lets you make and/or sell guns and accessories that fit under the National Firearms Act (NFA) which includes silencers/suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns) to own post-1986 machine guns. These post-1986 machine guns are typically cheaper than the older pre-ban ones, but still run a minimum of a few thousand dollars each for something like an MP7 or SCAR up to what I assume is a maximum of $250k for an M134 minigun (can't think of any guns more expensive than that lol). As for explosive ordnance, you have to hold an FEL to own any ordnance at all, regardless of what it is; think grenades, remote-detonated stuff like C4, mines, RPGs, etc. are all included here. Even if you do manage to get cleared for an FEL by both the federal government and your state sheriff, there's still a $200 tax on every piece of ordnance you buy on top of the base cost; for example, if you buy 6 grenades for your $14k grenade launcher that happens to hold 6 shots, you pay an extra $200 each plus whatever the grenades cost on their own. TLDR: 99% of people will never legally own a machine gun or RPG due to either not having the large amount of money they tend to cost or not making it through the vetting process conducted by the government to even own stuff like that, and worrying that some nutjob can just go out and buy a machine gun or rocket/grenade launcher is just silly.

So what you are saying is that there is an already designed and effective mechanism to prevent nutjobs from getting certain guns, while still keeping legal the fact of owning them. Then why not extend it to more guns? The only problem I see is the money part because I don't want to limit a constitutional tight to the rich only. But if paperwork is an effective deterrent by itself, why not just put more of it in front of other guns, or accesories like LCMs?

37:25 this has always struck me as a stupid argument. tanks, jets, and gunships are only good against themselves and hard targets like bunkers and bases. they can't patrol street corners enforcing curfews and anti-assembly edicts or knock down your door at 2 AM to search for contraband. that's why a standing police force always has to outgun the general citizenry for dictatorships to work. the police will never be able to outnumber the citizenry so they have to have rifles while normal people don't have anything. the moment any normal person has the potential to shoot back the police will cease to function as the dictatorship intends. the viet kong and the taliban were kicking around with basic rifles like the AK and FN FAL. they didn't have the tech we had and ran us ragged for years. that's how insurgencies are. now imagine that but around every corner, in every alley, and under every manhole in your average metropolis. let's not even begin to talk about the logistical issues that would arise in this scenario. jets and tanks need fuel. they get fuel via oil tankers. oil tankers need to dock. they need oil trucks to transport their cargo. oil trucks need roads to work. they need highways to get their stuff farther inside the country. the military cant fully secure all roads and all highways in the country. they're all ripe for diy bombing. can't do in-air refueling either since it's even more logistically demanding. the fuel reqs are even higher for that. the army would be psychologically broken within a week at most. you can't spare the resources or manpower to keep every serviceman's family safe. the moment names get put on faces and addresses get put on names there would be a mass slaughter. we've also got tons of jaded ex-mil in the general citizenry who don't like the government or the military. insurgents would have no shortage of trainers. a genuine insurgency in the US would break our military's back over its knee.
