I saw Chuck Berry when I was about 18. He put on a great show. What I really liked was when he saw a kid , dressed in full teddy boy gear, duck-walking in front of the stage, Chuck called him up to the stage and they duck-walked across together. Very unlikely Bill Haley, at the same theatre and the same year, who when a few people jumped up on stage to dance, Haley had the fire curtain pulled down and left the stage - end of show!

Mr. Berry was a pioneer of modern musical entertainment. From rock, to guitar dancing, to wireless vocal and guitar decades before it was created.
@JClaus12214 жыл бұрын
His entire stage act he took from T-Bone Walker, and even he admitted it. His style was the creation of Willie Dixon, who took a lousy tune in Maybellene and turned it into a classic. He also produced uncredited every cut Chuck ever did with Chess in the 50s. His guitar licks were just sped up swipes of almost every solo T-Bone ever did. Chuck packaged everything well, and lord knows the brit invasion crowd loved him, but he was no pioneer. Plenty of others were rockin hard before he ever did a thing, but he did have some great tunes. (Much thanks to Johnnie Johnson again uncredited, though the RRHOF finally gave him credit).
@drwisdom14 жыл бұрын
@@JClaus1221 Didn't you notice the part about "wireless vocal and guitar"? They didn't have that then. Mr. Berry wasn't just lip syncing, he wasn't even playing his guitar. That is what entertainers do, not musicians. But I don't want to be too hard on such old content.

In fact, of all the legendary rock stars of the '50's, only Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson(if you include him in that group, instead of with the "teen idols") had more top ten pop hits with Rock songs back then.
