Hard to believe Frankie was only 19 years old here. Being from Southern California and growing up in the '50's and '60's, this era of time was very, very special and unique and quite innocent. I greatly miss those days and the music of my youth.

As noted above, on this day in 1959 {November 28th} Frankie Avalon performed "Why" the ABC-TV musical variety program, the 'Dick Clark Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show'... At the time "Why" was in it's first week on Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #95, and on December 28th it would peak at #1 {for 1 week}, thus it holds the distinction of being the last #1 record of the 1950s... It reached #6 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... And on the same 'Beech-Nut' show he also performed the record's B-side, "Swingin' On A Rainbow", it peaked at #39 on the Top 100... Between 1958 and 1976 he had twenty-five Top 100 records; seven made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, besides "Why", his other #1 record was "Venus", for 5 weeks in 1959... His 25th and last Top 100 record was a disco version of "Venus", it peak at #46 on the Top 100 and on March 14th, 1976, it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Mr. Avalon, born Francis Thomas Avallone, celebrated his 77th birthday two months ago on September 18th {2017}...
