I agree with pretty much all of this except for Meteora, which I’d put in S or A tier. Although I think Hybrid Theory has better individual tracks, I think Meteora is more consistent overall. The singles still go hard all these years later, and there are some incredible deep cuts as well (Lying From You and Figure 0.9 are both in my top 5 LP songs). I think it’s aged a lot better than other nü metal, and it’s the LP album that I keep coming back to. For me personally, I’d put it up with the ones in S tier. Great video tho

Meteora have Numb and Breaking The Habit, two shitly pop rock songs, and Numb is a rip off of Crawling and Pushing Me Away. So, i give a C, but Lying From You and Nobody Listening are pretty good.

The Impossibility of Reason by Chimaira to me is really S tier. When that album came out I was blown away. The tracks on that album are at least good, but some are great. Great riffing, a lot of diversity, a great instrumental at the end, nice combination of clean and growl vocal, and very heavy. I actually don't really consider it a nu-metal album. I kinda fully agree on your S tier, but Significant Other was good but I consider it A tier. And I haven't really listened to the Sevendust album. I think they weren't that much of a thing in Europe so it didnt caught my attention. And Around the Fur... Maybe my favourite Deftones album. I couldn't get that one out of my sony disk man.

I listened The Height of Callousness today and personally, I really enjoyed it that now I love nu metal COMBINED with Industrial, Breakbeat, Big Beat or Drum'N'Bass. Same vein with Pitchshifter, Static-X, Orgy (about their second album, it's the same good album, just like Candyass) and even underrated ones like Professional Murder Music (god, such a goofy title for that band) and Apartment 26. Also, you missed about Nothingface, the last two albums Violence and Skeletons were actually pretty good. P.S. About video games, have you ever played Twisted Metal? The Nu Metal era was what got me into music and heavier stuff in general. There's a few bands here that being in Australia I've never even heard of. Australia was half a decade behind with Nu Metal, but there's a couple really good Nu Metal tinged albums here. Karnivool - Themata (and their EP) has a heavy Nu Metal influence. Another is The Butterfly Effect - Begins Here (and again their EP). Both excellent albums and both bands got better and both dropped most of the Nu Metal influence. There were some bands that actually we're around as Nu Metal hit but they never got big. Nevertheless they had some good albums too. Superheist - The Prize Recruit (8 Miles High EP is better), Testeagles - Non Comprehendous, Sunk Loto - Big Picture Lies (and EP Society Anxiety).

I agree with a decent amount of your opinions, Ive grown out of new metal a long time ago but bands liek System and Deftones I still respect. I gotta say Im a bit shocked at your feeling toward Vapor transmission. I too was more of a Candyass fan and after the original line up broke and they reformed with horrible dubstep music I quickly lost interest. But When I go back and listen to them (rarely now days)I think Vapor is their prime album and has aged the best. The Lyrical content on Candyass might be better but the other all sound on Vapor I feel like is their peak. And even the the lyrics can be silly at times the attitude and energy I feel make up for it. Punk Statik Paranoia has even grown on my as a guilty pleasure album, but I wont argue for that album. I think ORGY was an under rated band with so much potential but they just made some bad decisions unfortunately..

A band i think you missed on the first, who i liked a lot (and maybe this is cos they aren't well known in USA) is One minute silence. Some bangers. Also pitchshifter and Breed 77. edit - just listened to pitchshifter again. Its the tits still.

Pitchshifter is great but that’s more straight industrial metal

This is a great list and is very very solid!!! For me personally I would have swapped American Head Charge and Staind. Dysfunction was a huge album for me when it first came out and I still love it more than any other Staind album. And I would have moved up Mudvayne to the top of C tier. Probably would have left out Trapt too. Cause they deserve to be forgotten. Lol

Let’s be honest, no one would know who TRAPT are if it weren’t for the TRAPT guy. Being banned on Twitter is the only thing they’re known for outside of the 5 people who still listen to Headstrong.

Ok, I love disturbed so much but the band isn't in my top 3, in fact, I haven't listened all their discography, so I can barely do an opinion about if they are one of the best group of nu metal of their generation, but the comparative with Ricky Martin (Who is a singer from Puerto Rico and he did a lot for Latinoamerica) wasn't accurate, I know it is your opinion but as someone who grew up listening Ricky Martin and spent his teenager era listening a lot Nu metal, it seemed to me a little weird that opinion. (I hope this comment doesn't make you mad or anything, I enjoy your work and I just wanted to leave my opinion about that thing you said)

Not mad and I’m not comparing the BAND to him, just that song. Like listen to the clip I played: is the almost EXACT same melody.

If Dave Williams hadn’t died so soon after the release of that first Drowning Pool album, they almost certainly would’ve put out a better second album. They were headed in a good direction after the debut. Also, Hed (PE) is more grounded in hip-hop than a lot of these bands. I think docking them for “misogyny” is a little misguided when you consider that pretty much ALL hip-hop of that era would have to be ranked C tier or lower using that criteria.
@MetalTrenches Жыл бұрын
I mean that's true, but it's not JUST the misogyny, it's how cringy it gets lyrically sometimes. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it

Rollin and break stuff are not on Significant other. I noticed you got the tracks wrong for their first album as well saying Faith was on that one. Well Faith is on Significant Other as well as Nookie. Break Stuff and Rollin are on Chocolate Starfish and Hotdog Flavored Water. Just thought I'd let you know.

Isn`t Adema nu metal? I feel like they are left out of the talk all the time.

I really never considered chimera nu metal. They were always with the new wave of American metal with lamb of god and shadows fall etc for me.
@MetalTrenches Жыл бұрын
The first two albums were pretty nu metal. They also toured with Slipknot

@@MetalTrenches I get that vibe from pass out of existence and even that had elements of fear factory to my ears. The second album had an almost sepultura chaos ad vibe to it. I think here in the UK maybe they were perceived differently. I saw them tour with lamb of god. This is what makes metal heads awesome. We all have our own views on what we love and we respect that shit!! 🤘🤘
