Mikan Tsumiki is one of the most fascinating characters in the entire history of contemporary media. Just a few thoughts I've had for the past 6 years.

What's it about?

It's a post-despair fic, so basically after the events of Danganronpa 2. It covers the cast healing from their trauma and trying to atone for their sins that were forged as remnants and in the killing game. Basically, they try to make peace with what they've all done. And I'm tryna sprinkle in some Hinamiki content since I adore that pairing.

I can definitely say that I am glad that I found this video defending Mikan and providing things regarding her character I had never even considered before. I can vividly remember back in Highschool, the day when I watched Mikan's trial. I was unable to fall asleep that night and felt broken for a few days afterwards, almost like I was grieving for a real person that got to know personally. It was the first time any story had such a strong personal impact on me. Then after reading her free time events, it made me wonder if people really do go through what she did in the real world. I am lucky that I never experienced anything like her life, but the thought that someone else in world might be going through what she did horrified me. I just wanted to go into the game and tell her that "I know what it's like to see yourself as worthless or even hate yourself, but you can change and I will do all that I can to see you smile." I knew full well that Mikan isn't real obviously but my emotions felt real. Ever since, I have made it a life goal to make people smile through my work. I know I can't change a person's circumstances but I hope that whatever I do can give people a reason to smile in spite of their hardships and I feel I never would have come up with that goal if it wasn't for Mikan. I'm happy to have been reminded of why I like Mikan and the impact she has had on my life.

I don’t think I’ve ever cried watching a video like this before, Mikan has been one of my all time favorite characters in this series and just seeing this video alone makes me so so happy…I’m glad many people were able to see this and see her in a whole new light and just overall I couldn’t be anymore happy…this video was phenomenal keep up the good work, I know this video was 7 months ago but I’m still glad I was able to find it and here you and detective nyx speak your minds about her. ✨⚡️💚⚡️✨ Sorry about my rambling but do yourself a favor and keep being a phenomenal soul!

When I first started DR2, 3 or more years ago, I was planning to leave Mikan for later. After certain one beach scene at the prolouge, I decided to consider do her FTE and after that I wanted to hug her, give a pat on the head and kiss on the forhead and also tell her "It is alright". That is how it made me feel and I stick to it.

Im so happy you made this video because i never understood the hate for her. I loved Mikan as soon as i saw her in dr3 and i cried during the rd sdr3 trial. I get the fanservice stuff was annoying but she was wayyy more than her fanservice. I find her character and her big desire to feel useful or feel wanted in a space without getting shit on very relatable and i understand her devotion to the one girl who gave her that positive attention. (That and her super attachment to Hinata too, which is why Hinamiki is my fav hinata ship (nagito stans please dont attackl me). You made a 30min viudeo of what ive been trying to tell the dr fandom for YEARS. You're amazing King.

I don't know if either you or Nyx have heard of Dead End Paranormal Park, let alone seen it (side note: it's so good, I highly recommend it), but one of the songs from the first season's 9th episode, song titled "My Frankenstein," would fit perfectly with a Survivor!Mikan. I can imagine that when she gets Remembering Disease, it accidentally makes her remember more than AI!Junko wanted; Mikan was only supposed to remember the good feelings she had as a Remnant, not just how much Junko hurt her friends beforehand. With this knowledge, the idea of redemption for Mikan specifically is only strengthened, as she tries to distance herself from and eventually stands up against her most damaging abuser (yes, even more than Hiyoko).

If you're gonna' argue Mikan had no control because of the despair disease/Junko's brainwashing, then everyone in V3 also cannot be held accountable because of Tsumiki's brainwashing with fake memories. I'd argue doublely for Gonta who was under a lot of pressure from Kokichi as well.

I think most of the hate toward her stems from people finding her character to be a tad annoying for their tastes, particularly the suggestive parts of her personality. I'm personally not that turned off by it, but I can see how someone else can be. Honestly, I think the worst part about her is how the creators used her backstory and personality as an excuse to sexualize her.

Awww Mikan....I....omg...honestly I can't really say what I think... I always enjoyed her and her uhm..motive(?) was always so intressting for me.
