Elephant Mountain was one of the greatest albums of the '60's and highly underrated. There is jazz, roots, Celtic, psychedelic, everything on this. Jesse Colin Young was one of the greatest singers of all time.

Great Posting "Jack Twist" > Couldn't have expressed it better - well said I was fortunate to be able to hang-out with these guy's, and so many other Great Legends of Music in that era. 1969 was a Hotbed of Great Musicians with Great Lyrical Music that is still being used in so many of our Films, TV Series, Documentaries, Etc. I remember purchasing my brand-new 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT 2+2 Fastback after watching the Movie "Bullitt" w/actor Steve McQueen, released Oct/1968. That car gave several different known musicians, a ride for their life, at times. Still own it today !

Still got the power to grab the soul and stick in the mind. Perfect with Celtic-flavored music/tempo, with the violin. The version that always stuck with me, from the '70's, was a very lyrically rendered version...cannot remember who sang that, but to this day, it runs through my mind, with cascades of emotions weaving, dancing through it. However it did it, it was/has been a form of something to hang onto, to get by and survive.

+Holly Jaye - He was a neighbor of mine as well. I've been in music since I was 13 (Singer/Bass payer/Song writer for Screamin' Bloody Murder). I'm in my 60's now, but still playing and writing. Jesse had me up to his Mt Tam home (Ridgetop) several times. Super nice guy and still is. He was/is one of my favorite singers. Love your thoughtful comments. You are a true music lover and I sincerely hope your son gets to love the music from that era. Hugs, Katie.

@@katieadams7803 His manager used to live across the street from me and I got to meet Jesse back in 1970 with the Youngbloods. Serious yet cool guy in my book and I agree his vocals are on top of my shortlist of favorites. I was in several bands but being with Beethoven's Nightmare has been the longest so it's cool hearing from another musician.

Yep. Graduated high school in '75 so, while I just a kid, I clearly remember the nightly news of the war and the related riots in nearby Madison WI. Lots of great artists/music came out of the period, but not much of the whole, peace, love and understanding message of the day survived. I am not disagreeing with your comment, rather just making the point that these kids are the products of their environment, and nobody's really more to blame than mom and dad.

If the 60's were like now, I'd have been committed - my 3 favorite songs were this one, CJ&Fish's "Death Sound Blues", and Kaleidoscope's "Oh Death". Had my mom a bit worried. Oddly, I just listened to them a lot - no thought of doing anything - just liked songs in a minor chord...
