20 years talking about a pure Orchestra album, and people still didn't get it. And for people saying "I thought it was going to be metal and orchestra", that's what the last album was. This song is just EPIC and amazing, the chorus created with the double tracking voice of Hansi are astonishing. Freddie Mercury used that technique which creates epic chorus, i love quite a lot Blind Guardian and their Queen influences. On the other hand, I love Hansi's voice since i listened to Blind Guardian in 1997/1998 for the first time. From that point to now, Blind Guardian and Hansi Kürsch are my favourite band and singer of Heavy Metal. I look forward to hearing the full album, and the next new Demons & Wizards album. According to the production is a bit clearer than Beyond the Red Mirror. Best wishes!

Never exploded? They’re considered one of the best power metal bands ever wtf. Also, their music is an acquired taste. Sure, this sound doesn’t sound that great lyrically, but it’s just a project, and is completely different from what they’ve done so far. Hansi is great at storytelling, and I believe his ability to transform his passion of reading fantasy into epic music is godly and it definitely appeals to us fans, and is also what makes them unique. If you think think they’re not great lyrically then try to listen to other power metal bands where most of the lyrics are straightforward about slaying dragons or whatever. It’s how the genre is, and BG are unique at what they do and how they do it.

I've always thought Blind Guardian had a theatrical vein, for example the lyrics often talking in first person as the character in the story. It is especially evident in this song. Hansi has said he is a big fan of Jesus Christ Superstar so that might be the connection. I think he would make a great musical theatre actor, he has all the right instincts.

Look people, this is a special project with only an Orchestra and Hansi that was more than 20 years in the making but they never got the right time to do it until now. The regular Blind Guardian album with guitars and drums will be released later in a year or two. I don't know why people are so surprised about it. If you like it buy it if you don't then don't waste your time with it. It's that simple, but don't come here thinking it's outrageous or something like that when it was already discussed by the fans since 1998.

@@MetalPersonJ Markus in 2011 "And concerning the music it’s typical Blind Guardian music, just without the Metal band, so you’ll have all the melody lines, all the arrangements played, but played by a classical orchestra with Hansi singing. So, it sounds like Blind Guardian on one side, on the other side it sounds completely different, but it’s very exciting for us, it sounds awesome, we already recorded five or six songs and we also think about maybe doing a more heavy version of this later on involving the band, we have to see if we can adapt it to the Metal band too, but first thing should be purely classical with Hansi singing, as I said."

The orchestrals and production are perfect, but to me the songwritting sounds uneven. Rythms and melodies change on every verse incoherently instead of flowing with one another, as if they picked random parts from 10 different songs and tried to patch them together... And what's with this weird silence at the end of "Rise or fall of the old gods" super short chorus, breaking the epic momentum, just before repeat? 0_o BG has made truly astonishing masterpieces, but after At the Edge of Time, seems they've suddenly lost the inspiration :'(

well there's a few things you need to consider: 1) Wisdom (hopefully you also learn and grow) 2) the counter culture won- everything that was being rebelled against in the 1980's happened. Family formation is in the dumps. Hook up culture is way more prominent than it was prior to the 'rebellion'. You have singers like Lana Del Rey saying she's a witch and leading protests of other 'witches' to put hexes on the a president. I mean.. What else could you rebel against? Everything the counter culture wanted happened. Religion is way down. also the majority of metal does not consist of 'conservative old men'. Death Metal does not. hardcore is populist garbage trying to rip down the haves (as they identify as have nots) Black Metal still wants you to burn down churches. This D'jent bull shit sure doesn't have a traditional feel to it. As you age and learn a lot of us are less rebellious.. it's called learning.

I will need to give this more listens, but after my first playthrough I'm kind of disappointed. It sounds like Beyond The Red Mirror if you took out the guitars. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved that album, but I hoped that this would be different. The arrangements that fit perfectly with a metal band seem kind of boring when heard without the metal background. It's one epic wall of sound, no instrument is given room to breathe. It sounds like background music with some interesting moments thrown in, not like a song fully utilising the potential of an orchestra. With typical BG vocal lines on top this sounds not like its own thing, but a lesser version of Blind Guardian. I hope that this will grow on me or that the album will be different.

I completely agree and I think youre being too polite about it. This song is utterly fucked up. Its directionless and cringe inducing trash. There are little fragments of ideas that kind of pop up here and there but even those arent well executed.

This project is epic and no matter how metal it is or not. I think this is the precious top of Blind Guardian career and guys I'm very happy for BG and I'm happy for all of us here that we've been waiting for so many years and we got it. I'm happy that all band members are still there and we are still here and we can witness this music. First listen impressions, but know that I do love BG since "Follow the Blind", first album I've heard from BG. Hansi's voice is outstanding. The choir is amazing. But the main phrases and connections are a little bit messy. Something is missing. BUT, Blind Guardian's realeases are always weird to my ears for the first time, since A Night at the Opera. Once I hear the whole album again, will return to comment. And don't be silly: this is a concept/orchestral album. No heavy metal album you used to listen... \o/ 20 years on the making! Cheers!

I'm just going to say this but he is probably the world's greatest metal singer in male version ever and I never like to use the world's greatest but I don't think anybody can top him I'm sorry his vocals in his change the way he does is vocals are just beyond belief and you can understand him and not only that but there is so many goddamn lyrics in these songs that I don't see how he memorizes all this it's incredible . I mean he has got a gift that's for sure he is got a gift and listen to their music it's like reading a book you know on tape you just close your eyes and just imagine yourself in that world and that's why I love this band I've been a fan of blind guardian ever since they first started I have every single CD they have and now I have them all on my MP3 of course and I can't wait to buy this one on Amazon in November this is going to be just algic this is definitely going to play in my car or a lot

and why people give this thumbs down I don't understand I guess because they don't know what real music is they don't know what inspiration and dedication and having this voice and doing this stuff is because this is hard I mean just try to sing one of their songs and you could strain your voice for days but he doesn't he does it so complexed and he doesn't push his vocals at all it's just like it comes out naturally where you know some singers, just scream or they strain your voice so bad like Geoff Tate you know from you know Queen's Right originally you know he hurt his vocals so bad that he had to get surgery and now he sounds phenomenal because he trained his voice to do what it needs to do and not but this guy you know maybe it's because he's German I don't know but he's just phenomenal

This is exactly the sound I have been hoping for: Majestic-Melodic soundscapes that make Hansi's voice shine more brightly than any conventional Metal song ever could. The vocals of this man are the best and most unique to be found in the Metal scene - and it's great to witness them cross Genre boundaries like never before. They're too good to be limited to one genre only.

This is professional and even a talented thing. But it's too "light" for anyone who likes any other album from them, it's don't have enough POWER (judging by two tracks which are available.). And I think it's too "heavy" to accept such material both as a music and as fantasy tale. Something weird, though huge thumbs up for work an amazingly hard and complex job they did, I presume the band itself needed it more than any fans lol To conclude their career (as they definitely getting older) with some project like that, some sort of Opus Magnum. As a fan and as a customer, I definitely wanted and hoped for something else from them, though hardcore fans will dig it + maybe some new random ppl too.

i get that people are people upset about no metal instrumentation in this, but frankly i think it is ultimately wrong. i don't want to hear the same thing from bands that i love. i would like to hear their musical journey, for better of for worse. i ultimately enjoy swimming through the ebb and flow of a band's or artist's musical creation. am i upset that there won't be metal instrumentation? sure. i love it. but am i excited to listen to the rest of this album on repeat. 20/20 would crit again.
