Note: the energy and fluid spreading between e-magnets and active coolers is disabled by default in the configs - if it does not work for you and you'd like it to, check that this is enabled first! For those who want some more equations: Power[RF/t] = Toroid Size × Efficiency[%] × Combo Base Power Heating Rate [kK/t] = {100 - (0.9 × Efficiency[%])}/2 - Active Cooling Rate

After spending 12 hours straight on building my first reactor setup, I was finally ready to build a fusion reactor, or at least start looking into it. So naturally the first thing I do is come to this video to do so right? Well, within less than 1 minute of being afk on my server one of my friends messed with my reactor and it had a meltdown. So now Here I sit, reactor-less and sad.

This mod is awesome and has a lot of potential. I appreciate you making it more visually understanding with showing which blocks are energized and adding support for computercraft. My biggest critique is adding more in-game guidance. For example, a building guide with phantom/ghost blocks to show a player what's needed for a fusion reactor, at least the toroid. I would actually turn the fusion core into a multi-block structure that allows the player to designate the power output and fluid input/output. Next, I believe adding a book to explain your mod would helpful as well (if there isn't already). This would most definitely help with setup and use of your mod. Lastly, I personally think the variety of fuels is cool but it's overwhelming to someone who doesn't fully understand nuclear physics. I could see you removing some fuels and/or adding in the details of the fuels their atomic information like protons and neutrons. Adding the atomic info will teach/help anyone with figuring out the underlying physics. Sorry for the essay, but I hope you find this useful and I look forward to more updates in the future!

First off, thanks very much, and your welcome :) I've thought a lot about stuff like in-game guides, ghost blocks and such. The former is something that I've always wanted to do, but I have very little time to get done. A couple of people have expressed wanting to help with that, although not much has cropped up so far. I write a lot of info on the tool-tips of blocks and items, but from watching players on YT and Twitch this somehow almost always goes unnoticed :P Still, it's important and if the to-do list thins out a bit, I will work on it. In there I could also have info detailing some of the details of the physics involved, as you recommend :) The latter is something I'm sitting on the fence for - although it would be useful, I'm not sure that, given the amount on the to-do list currently, implementing ghost blocks would be a good use of my somewhat limited time. After all, the fission reactors can be any size, so the only place they would see any use is, as you say, the fusion toroid. The thing is that they will change entirely in 1.13 and will allow for a variable minor radius, so then I would even be sure how useful they would be in that case. And yes, a multi-block fusion core is a really nice idea... and is exactly what will be added in 1.13 :)

So I'm unsure if I'm understanding this right or not, if you have the active cooling at 100% (or higher), will it not ever reach meltdown, or is that still going to happen unless every so often it is shut down briefly to cool down some? I'm not a big fan of running the redstone with a comparator to have it maintain itself, so want to make sure if it's really necessary or not first.

_the other liquid coolants are much more powerful, and you do I think need them for large enough reactors - I don't think a size 4 is a good example ... but if you have like a size 24 I think it's possible you may need to use something better than just water, because eventually you'll just run out of space_ If coolant power is divided by (linear) size, surely you always have enough space for water cooling? For size 𝑛, you have 2𝑛+2 spaces per inside row and 2𝑛+4 per outside. 4× for the sides of the square, 2× for top and bottom, and 4× for mirror efficiency, gives 128_n_+192 blocks worth of cooling. For water at 200K/t/𝑛, you only need 25𝑛 to reach 5000K/t, which takes less than one-third the space. You can even just expand the pattern you made in this video (using the same proportion of each quadrant). Is the coolant division done differently than I understood?

For sake of not wasting all my materials and possibly melting them all, I usually test reactors in creative before trying to use them in my actual game. I'm trying to replicate the exact reactor in the video here, and for some reason the power im supplying to the electromagnets isn't spreading between each other, I would have to manually connect each and every cell to a power source to power them all, and with the need of coolers, that obviously can't happen. I'm using enigmatica 2 (standard) version 1.53 . Does the fact that I'm in creative cause problems, or what's the issue?

So I just learned some things over on my stream today about your reactor. The cave illuminator from astral sorcery causes a blockage inside your reactors ring. Also I had my active coolers attached before I activated the reactor ad it got stuck blinking between 1000 and -500 heat per tic. Even when I removed and replaced each and every piece the reactor would brick when activated. I have to jump into creative and get all new parts. I think the cooling data is stored in the fusion cells even when the coolers are detached and the unit it dismantled.

NuclearCraft I had two liquid helium active coolers hooked up before I heated it up. It heated up to 8k and then bricked and got stuck flickering between -500 and 1k. Even when I remove and replace all pieces and detach the coolers, when I heat it up again to 8k, it does the same. I believe it’s current version. I’m fully updated on Enigmatica 2 expert. I will have the video up tomorrow if interested?

Yep, pretty sure you can. Each cooler should be operating at 1/6 efficiency (4/24), so each is producing 33.3K cooling so you only need ~150 to get 5000K (or ~75 pairs). There are as many diagonals as electromagnets, so you shouldn't even need to make a half ring on either side.
