Wow you've really outdone yourself here, this is amazing! Like I said in the previous video I'm the guy who operates a reactor on a submarine so I think the accuracy, including the turbines stages, ect. Is awesome. My only suggestion balancewise is this looks like a lot of work to set up(which is not a bad thing) but in comparison, the fusion reactor is easier to set up and generates more power. I think the MSR needs to be buffed even farther, maybe so it makes twice the amount of the fusion reactor. I know that doesn't make sense realistically, but with the amount of setup this takes, it makes sense with game balance. I want the MSR to be buffed, because in modpacks, people will use other simpler ways to make power and your mod may go untouched
@NuclearCraftMod
@NuclearCraftMod 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! Glad to hear the accuracy is not off the mark :) You are certainly right that this is more work for less gain than the fusion reactors; in the future, NC will be undergoing an 'overhaul' of sorts, where I will be changing many of the fundamental mechanics. I can't go too crazy at the moment because it would break people's worlds, which is the last thing I want to do. In the future, these setups will probably be a bit smaller (for the same amount of hot coolant) and perhaps(?) generate more power, while the solid-fuel fission reactors and fusion reactors are being completely rewritten - they will be less powerful, harder to set up and everything should be better balanced than it is now. They'll also produce steam rather than energy directly ;) This is sorta why these multiblocks look so different to the originals - the MSR, heat exchanger and turbine are the first steps in the direction I've been planning to take for a long time.

@@NuclearCraftMod are you sure that nerfing fusion reactor power generation is a good thing ? Atm we can use mekanism to simplify D-T fuel production a lot ( I personnally find nuclearcraft's process machines really annoying to setup and I miss tons of other ways to try fuel combos cause they are not relyable), and even at max toroid size, fusion reactor still 3 times worse than mekanism's one ( more than 3 times actually cause it uses more fuel / t + possibility to increase by 15 rf production with turbines ( yeah big setup but mekanism is way moooore cheated than our beloved NC reactor )) So... Maybe a solution should be to remove mekanism fuel compatibility ^^. Make processing less annoying ( Maybe have a possibility to configure output on processing machines ?) but way harder to setup ? Well in any case I prefer NC fusion reactor than mekanism one cause NC is way more satisfying ! If you've suggestions for me about NC automation ( fuel processing for example and setup machines output), please let me know ! NC is my fav mod by far so... :D

@@NuclearCraftMod I think a better means of balancing would be to dramatically increase the complexity of Fusion. So you have standard Fission, which does what you'd expect, it doesn't need much outright changing so much as a bit of tweaking and maybe including a water coolant loop to it to run steam turbines.Then you'd have MSR's which are more complex to set up, but are more efficient in terms of power generation and heat distribution (meaning you can run more turbines off of the same general footprint of an MSR). Then we get to the gorilla in the room... fusion. As it stands, it seems too simplistic. I mean, this is a technology which is still in its infancy because it is so gosh darn complex. Instead of nerfing it to the point that no one will want to play with it, you can instead increase the complexity. For example, you might need to set up a large sphere which houses the fusion tube and everything. And add fusing lasers, to kickstart the process, which require hecka-power and require careful aiming. You already require power input to kick off fusion, but you can require building lasers and placing them precisely to aim, wire them all up, then have them all trigger simultaneously. Furthermore, we can get into the fuel... because you don't just pump in elemental Tritium and Deuterium into a fusion reactor, you introduce pellets of fuel. Which are NOT trivial to produce. So even if you use Mekanism to produce your two basic components, you still need to refine them into something that will fuse in a Fusion Reactor. Which should take some starch out of the electrolytic separator feeding the Mekanism setup that has become so common.

Important question, when calculating the cooling efficiency why do you need to take the total cooling rate of both heaters (lapis and glowstone)? If we are calculating the two-way system for lapis NaK then shouldn't you only take into consideration the cooling rate of lapis heaters?. For example 8 * 480 = 3 840 HU/t and then use that value instead of 5920 HU/t. I don't undestand the code behind it so I'm probably wrong.

Looks like there's a lot of math involved. Which does make sense, it's quite a complex mod. However a casual player might find it too bothersome. There's a reason why something like Extreme Reactors are popular. It's easy to set up and doesn't take too much to get working. Sure you can experiment with different factors to make it more efficient. But if it's a lot of work just to get it working people might shy away. Like Reika's mods for example. There's a core audience that loves how in dept it is. But you never see it in any major modpack. (ofc that may also have different reasons, like license.) That said I'd enjoy this mod. Even if I still has to move beyond a simple 3x3x3 fission reactor (mainly cos it's freaking expensive to build stuff. Lots of iron required and a bunch of steps to make the right alloys.). My brother did build a fusion generator on a server but he struggled to keep it going long periods of time due to 1, the power cap and 2, fuel. He had like 3-4 Mekanism Turbines working off Extreme Reactor fission fueled steam just to get up to the amount of power to start the fusion. But it wasn't able to work long because of lack of fusion fuel. That was the biggest choke point for his plans. And btw he made that fusion reactor with the idea to give power to the entire server! Meanwhile my base was run off Mekanism wind turbines and a Modular Generator running of syngas from a treefarm (run with Steve's carts) and it worked just fine for my needs. Sure I didn't have any AE2 or Draconic stuff tho at that point. I'd say Immersive Engineering is also a nice example. It's a bit expensive, requires some set up but then it keeps running (as long as you have diesel) without requiring a bunch of math or optimal set-up. Edit: 6 minutes in and I'm already lost.
@NuclearCraftMod
@NuclearCraftMod 5 жыл бұрын
It's totally understandable that people may not like the maths or complexity of this mod, and of course they may use extreme reactors instead. However, just judging by the packs NC is managing to get into at the moment (it is getting into major packs such as Sky Factory, Modern Skyblock and Enigmatica), there does seem to be a decent audience for this sort of mod, and I believe there is far more to this mod than simply being a more complex extreme reactors!
@AlexJones-qf7rw
@AlexJones-qf7rw 5 жыл бұрын
@@NuclearCraftMod Yeah it's very nice to see that NC gets more attention (and I'm talking like someone whom has used and loved this mod probably since 1.7.10) There has also been a shift towards more "expert" like packs. Project Ozone 3 and Sevtech being recent examples. I just wish I was better at math cos most of these things just fly right over my head. I would like to dive deeper into the mod but I'm a little intimidated by anything beyond simple Fission. There's also a cost of materials that can be a struggle to overcome in Survival. Sure there are quarries and mining dimensions but by the time you have those you probably have a good set-up of power. I don't want this mod to become like Draconic Evolution where power cost and material cos rises exponentially.
@NuclearCraftMod
@NuclearCraftMod 5 жыл бұрын
The material/power cost will almost certainly stay roughly the same - this mod is more expensive than most, but that's because I've felt that in the last few years material acquisition has become easier and easier n big packs with a wealth of mining and even resource-farming options. The exception to this is future high-tech machinery, but in general the cost will go with the tech level as expected. Ultimately this game is one of the all time greats because it is a sandbox game - if you don't want to use a mod, you don't have to. If you already have a good power system in place, you don't need to use NC unless you want to. It's all down to the packs you play and what options are available :) Some of this stuff is mathematical, but that's just the sort of mod this is - it's meant to be hard and have aspects of realism without being insanely, ridiculously complex. In the future some of it will be easier, simply because of the way some of the mechanics are changing, but at the end of the day this is not a good option for a mod if you want simplicity.
@AlexJones-qf7rw
@AlexJones-qf7rw 5 жыл бұрын
@@NuclearCraftMod Yeah... I like the complexity of coolers and different fuels. How you need bigger reactors for more coolers to run on better fuels. That part is something I've thoroughly enjoyed. The cool looking fusion reactors. But these Salt Reactors, Turbines and Heat Exchanges? Aswell as all the fluids that quickly fill up the max allowed IDs? I look at them and my head starts spinning. I don't get how to build or even acquire said liquids. Nor how to build something that won't blow up on me. I'm trying to watch this tutorial but I'm already lost and it's barely started. I don't get how things even work. I get that material cost rises with multi-blocks, I've played Immersive Engineering. But it's not always that mass resources or even quarries are available. Just because how OP it is. Like this one pack I'm playing where I've enough copper to build a mansion but barely enough iron to build anything. I'd wanna continue to enjoy and play this mod. it's more challenging than ER. But I'm not sure I'm good enough at math to continue enjoying it. (Though I've to say that Reactors making steam is far more realistic. Steam > Turbine > Power is how basically all power generation works. Better ways of generating steam but not more efficient ways of using it. ) But I suppose that's just me.
@NuclearCraftMod
@NuclearCraftMod 5 жыл бұрын
You can avoid the ID limit by making sure the registering of the fluid blocks is disabled in the configs (it's disabled by default). Fluids alone, without a corresponding block, don't affect the ID limit, which is nice. Ultimately recipes just have to be figured out through JEI; that's what it's there for at the end of the day. There are ways to make sure meltdowns don't occur by using a redstone comparator safety loop, like I do in this video. I certainly get your point about how sometimes the recipes don't line up so well with resource availability, but I have no choice but to just assume the player is using a standard pack of the times, where recourses are abundant - things like CraftTweaker exist to allow players to change recipes to suit the collection of mods they're using. Alternatively, if iron is scarce, you may want to increase its spawn rate - there's not much I can do about things like that unfortunately. I think the important thing is whether the maths is a problem. Maybe it is too much for some people, but at the end of the day I wouldn't enjoy making the mod much simpler - it would just be an ER alternative rather than its own mod with its own characteristics. One thing to look out for though is that all sorts of awesome people are working on programs, scripts and calculators to do the heavy lifting for you, just as the script in this video did for me :) All of these wonderful people hand out in the NC Discord server, and I'm usually around to answer questions more immediately that through YT ;)

So, in this scenario, if you were to use the Glowstone coolant as well, you would create two additional heat exchangers for the coolant(one for the high pressure steam, one for the low pressure steam) and as for the steam itself you could just combine it and make the turbines larger, right? Edit: On second thought... good grief, that amount of steam. Maybe combining it isn't a good idea. Might have to go with separate turbines entirely.

If MSR setups are so much more difficult than the normal fission reactors, why not add something like controlrods or a turbine wich runs on the hot fluids from the active cooling on the fission reactors? There could be like hot water coming out of a fission reactor to go through a basic turbine only meant for fission reactors? :) Since fission reactors are so much easier to build, i think there is alot more potential.
