Eddie Howe has said that Newcastle are "closed" in terms of transfer business. The difficulties of PSR have prevented us once again developing the squad. But have there been deeper problems? Is a lack of dealing at the right time crippling Newcastle's ambition at the moment?

@@craigy691 what you need to realise is we have no idea what kind of shit show the man walked into. It seemed to come as a shock that they had fecked up PSR, panic sales. That club has never been run right in my life. Allowing Amanda to be in charge of recruitment when the poor lass didn’t have a football background was madness and I think we are paying for it. I still think Tonali was a replacement for Bruno not to play alongside him. They thought Bruno would go for 100 million and it never happened.

I see the absolute worst of our fans decided to gather in this comment section. Shocking. From not having a win in 13 games to fighting for champions league football. On the verge of our second cup final and people are questioning whether the owners want it 🤣madness

If we get to the summer & they’re still crying about PSR then we’ll know for sure the Saudis aren’t all that bothered about pushing this thing onwards, in fact they may look to cut their losses. It’s about time we stopped hearing the excuses around this issue & started hearing more in the way of solutions. Fans know PSR is an issue but like with any fan base their patience has its limits. This coming summer should tell the tale..

I agree. Some of our fan base won't have a bad word said against the Saudi ownership ( PIF) .can't keep saying let's wait until summer or winter windows, as they come & go & still no business. Only time will tell I guess, but this feels like the biggest gamble so far .

Couldn't agree more with you on the transfer of players. If we are to be No1 as our Chairman says, then Howe has to be much more active in the transfer windows. He seems to have a loyalty to players that a football manager just can't have if we are to be No1.

The recruitment at small clubs like Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Fulham appears better than ours. Yes we splashed big money on great players, but those clubs splashed small on great players! They seem to have the knack of doing this. We need to start getting these bargains in.

I think they don’t want to use the money on this manager. Can see top players leaving and a rebuild happening and to be honest it’s needed. Three CB’s, two over thirty, one of which looks like he’s towing a caravan. Needed a RW, left with Murphy, no other striker. Be lucky to get any European spot, I said 8th we would finish at the start of the season and think the same now. Looks like it could all fall apart by the end of Feb

If Kelly goes too there’s absolutely no reasons why we can’t even get a loan in. Loads of teams around us are doing it without the PSR bullshit or that old “it’s hard to do loans in January” doesn’t seem so! We looked flat and stale yesterday we MUST bring something in. Squads thin enough

It looks this window NO ONE blinked. You're absolutely correct, Chris. This rules are absolutely absurd. They must follow the NFL financial rules. There's a reason why they make Billions and Billions and Billions. EPL must be shaken up. PIF in the perfect position if things cave.

I actually suspect it's a little bit of a front, if there's a perception we can't really spend we won't get ripped off. I think there's money but they are very particular. Broadly speaking farcical Man City and Man Utd can spend heaps but no one else can

Part of the problem is we are still spending, only it's constantly on possible good prospect youth for the U21s and to loan out. It was the issue I had two summers back with Minteh, which was an odd one from start to finish, but to spend 6 or so million to then loan a player out drains from the 1st team that then and now needs improvement for the here and now. Case in point, a Harrison came over from Man City a year ago, the only January transfer in as I recall. Wasn't for the 1st team. To be honest I'm still trying to figure out which team the transfers last summer were for. Some were clearly like Minteh or Harrison, to loan out or for the future with the Serb defender as an example, but the rest have barely had an impact. Osula in the Bromley game perhaps the biggest impact of a brand new player from Summer. Don't really count Hall as new with the year loan (which took a lot of time because of injuries to others to get played). If not for the Anderson deal with Forest I'd forget all about the Greek. Rud-something (while we still have Mark Gillespie). Apologies for the venting, but the whole thing this past year has been a farce.

That's what I'm starting to think. I keep hearing the Saudis wanna be number 1, yet look at the recent transfer windows. Surely they'd be doing everything they could to work around PSR and bring players in. I'm starting to think we've got people at the club who don't know what they're doing tbh.

Isn't the Kelly deal a loan (with an obligation to buy)? Does that count as profit now or the next cycle? I think when we bought Lewis Hall, it wasn't until the second year when we made the deal permanent that it affected PSR.

Put yourselves in the shoes of the players. What does this do to a competitive mindset? You know you’re picked and paid by default. No one’s coming in. A few are going out. You might in a year or two. So why try? Just coast. Coasting into mediocrity.

Exactly HOW does Forest do it fgs, they've spent decades in the doldrums . They bought tons of players, probably knowing they'd take the hit on FFP/PSR & what did they get? 3 points docked..let's just get in some players who can slot straight into the 1st team , look at it this way, if we buy well then those players can gain us more points than they take off us. The higher up the league, silverware won (god, if only) & the more revenue comes in ! We procrastinate so much over future players we want & bugger me, someone swoops in and buys them first..I swear City & Liverpool have folks watching our podcasts..look at the lad we wanted &, apparently spoke to, all ready to come to us in the summer, City comes in & says thanks very much.. buys him!! Our lot at the top need to grow a spine &, tbh honest, I have no faith in Eales & I think Mitchell, his young mate hasn't done anything to make me think he's good enough either !

Longstaff, Barnes, Willock, Joelinton, Osula and Wilson would raise a canny bit of spending money but there's no point waiting until next season if we don't qualify for the Champions League. If we don't then Isak, Bruno, Tonali, Botman and Gordon will be the ones we sell but the calibre of player who comes in will be lower.

Whilst, I do believe this is a *very risky move, that being not buying any players until the summer... If it is the case that we don't buy, then at least it will stop any fire sales, like last season, which ended up on us selling two. Young prodigys. Then I'll be OK with it... Sales, as you rightly say , never happened ( years ago now) with the likes of Almiron, Longstaff, & the rest of the dead wood, high wage players, which everybody forgets have massive ramifications on psr/ffp...

For gods sake how many times. Thisis NOT psr. If you accept that the sales of Minteh and Anderson ensured we wrre compliant which wr were. Then accept that a £70m loss dropped off the rolling 3 year period compliance and this wax replaced by the £24m profit to June 2024. This is choice not psr.

Love the shows as always Chris, bit have to disagree. It PIF took over Newcastle instead of The Fat Controller, the Premier League would just have changed the rules sooner. They are doing everything to stall, delay, and derail the progress NUFC, and theyre doing it in response to the potential we now have to beco.e a regular UEFA qualifying team. And on the topic of Social Media, the abuse will never change. Because controversial behaviour will generate clicks, and clicks generates money for the owners. So those with the power to change things, will do f*ck all.

PSR & FUP rules supposedly to safeguard against clubs going bust. Read and let sink in figures below to see what a scam this is. EFL club owners worth: NUFC £478 billion Greedy 6 in total £66 billion Rest of EPL clubs combined £128 billion. NUFC owners are more than 7 times wealthier than the greedy 6 combined and 3.7 times wealthier than every other EPL owners combined.

I like your rants. I'm confused with this one. Are you shouting at FFP, PSR, APT or having a dig at Howe for not releasing players that had potential in their prime? We are all frustrated with these bureaucrats that are getting rich sitting on their arses, with no clue about the game, throwing new laws out that are killing the game. Under the circumstances. We have done well. Try and imagine this scenario without Howe?

@EverMoreNUFC That is not his job. We have Mitchell and Eales to do that. Many vent anger after a loss. Personally I think we play well in the 1st half V Fulham and shit in the 2nd. The tactics for both managers are up for debate, yet I think the players didn't want to get injuries considering the match on Wednesday. The new laws (PSR, APT) only came into play after we sold the club to Arsley and we started to show a bit of ambition. I know you feel the same because I watch most of your vids.

Even in summer from July on it was bollocks to blame PSR. Guéhi alone proves we had money to spend, and that didn't suddenly become Scotch mist by the start of this window. Then there are a list of others possible as loans or free transfers who, like Kelly, would likely have warmed the bench at best anyway. Now we've lost a wide right to leave us with 3 wide players at best from 1st team calibre options. Another step back but a lot less because of PSR than some like to claim. Yes, overall it's holding us back, but we already had funds we were able to use, and given the system works on a 3 year cycle which reset June gone, it's a joke.

Seems a combination of poor timing from management (those responsible) of outgoing/incoming players. It goes without saying, UTD are in desperate need of a few good quality players. The results, I feel, highlight this. PSR is a piss take of all piss takes. Strangulation of business operations is all it does. Ando was a mess of a situation for UTD imo, but a nescessity to not breach PSR crap. Ando has been stunning for Forest, what a player!. What a difference he would have made for UTD had he not have had to be sold. The whole mess that PSR causes is so sickeningly ignored by the jokers at the PL. It is cruel to say, but UTD have what they have and I honestly feel Howe seems to have weaknesses in player/squad management/progression as a result of what's been going on. Sad really, as I really enjoy watching UTD play. When UTD are on full song, they will destroy all that come before them, but things appear to have fallen away somewhat. Just my view on it though.

Ifs and buts. What we could've got for Almiron would not have bought an upgrade. What we could've got for Wilson would not have bought an upgrade. What we could get for Longstaff, Kelly, Tripps would not pay for their upgrades. We'd need to sell five "fringe" players to bring in one, which would leave us with an empty bench. I know some will say "Amortization, blah, blah, blah". But buying players on payment plans is the reason we're here in the first place, and without investment from somewhere, it's going to take five years to pay them off. The club grossly overspent in the first few windows, now THERE. IS. NO. MONEY. Honestly, i wish our fanbase could show some solidarity, because the fighting, arguing, finger-pointing, fear-mongering and race hate against our own players, etc., is driving me bananas. Bizarelly, after the weekends results, we're exactly where we were, but with the goal difference advantage that Man City had over us being eradicated. Unfortunately, the team that put FIVE past them is Arsenal who we face in the cup on Wednesday, so the home crowd need to put their beef aside and bring it.
