@@KZbinPublisherorPlatform Eh, it's true that Apu is one of the few respectable people in Springfield. You've got this town full of lazy corrupt cops, teachers who've given up, dumbasses, alcoholics... and then there's this guy who's a little *too* dedicated to his job. The Problem With Apu isn't necessarily about being voiced by a white guy (though uh maybe that's not the best) or being the "hard working and industrious" stereotype (slaves used to be portrayed that way in popular consciousness, until the 13th amendment made slavery administered through the state and "lazy criminals" was the more profitable attitude to foster)... The problem is he was literally the only Indian in all of pop culture for **decades**. That's a lot of stupidly huge responsibility to put on the shoulders of one cartoon. It's not like it's 100% all hate all the time from all people. And I'm sure how he got pissed off at Lovejoy for calling his religion "miscellaneous" and pointed out there were seven hundred million Hindus in the world, was a moment of tiny but useless catharsis for many. Ah well, I miss the Simpsons. 8 seasons wasn't enough.

@@TheEmperorHyperion they were believed to be coded messages for intelligence agents in the field, utilizing one-time pad ciphers; they were used during the Cold War by spy agencies (CIA, KGB, MI-6, etc) on both sides of the Iron Curtain. Impossible to crack without the code key, which would be immediately discarded after a single use and changed daily, rendering it worthless for decoding future transmissions. To anyone else listening in, such as ham radio operators around the globe, it would just sound like someone transmitting a bunch of random numbers. Here's a recorded broadcast from the 1980s of one of the better known stations (now defunct as of 2008), which is believed to have been run by MI-6 out of RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus. Listeners dubbed it "The Lincolnshire Poacher," because of its use of that particular tune to alert agents that a transmission was about to begin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5-7gaSLipuZf5I It also had a lesser-known sister station dubbed "Cherry Ripe," for its use of that song, which was otherwise identical in operation to the Lincolnshire Poacher. Originally broadcast out of Guam (possibly indicating American involvement), Cherry Ripe was eventually moved to Humpty Doo in Australia's Northern Territories before also being discontinued circa 2009.
