I retired to the Sumter area from Anchorage, Alaska three years ago. Love it! @5:55 Native American, Spanish and British … you forgot to mention the influence of Africans.

I know I want to move to the low country. I have family in Bluffton (love it there). The Charleston area is very appealing as well, but too pricey for me. So, I am still checking out cities and saving every penny to move to SC! Thanks for the info, Keith!

@melodymoore4323 Charleston is more expensive than other areas around Bluffton. If there is anything I can ever help you with, just drop me a note. Happy New Year!

@@RetirementLifeSouthCarolina I will for sure. I've considered towns between Charleston and Bluffton. When I go to Bluffton, I never want to come home! (Illinois).

Is there any coastal town(s) that are less susceptible to hurricanes, or is just random? Looking to visit end of May early June. House budget 700-750K max. need at least 3 bedrooms or 4 for family visits. Considering: Bluffton, Murrells Inlet, Surfside Beach, Garden City and maybe Hilton Head. Heard from many crime is bad in Myrtle Beach
