Years of mechanics: can't fix it Man in shed: I fixed it

If a mechanic had to spend that much time on your car you might as well buy a new one lol. I bet it took him more then a week of trail and error to find it. That would be a lot of hours to pay without any guarantee the car works by the end of it. You really need a specialist with this stuff or a retired mechanic that likes to fiddle around and does it for the love of keeping these cars going and does not charge full for the hours if you can not do this yourself.
@Dave_Allison4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I recently fixed a long-lingering problem on my 964 that probably took me 40 hours to diagnose by doing everything from swapping in different parts to tracing wiring harnesses with the service manual. In the end, it took 5 minutes to fix once I figured out what someone had done wrong in the car's deep dark past and fixing it didn't require a single part. I can't imagine a shop having fixed it for less than $10k, and it probably would have cost me twice that.
@thefreedomguyuk4 жыл бұрын
I think perhaps a lot of mechanics have given quotations for them to fix a faulty 308 engine. With very steep charges, why the actual work never was carried out. That seems to be a very common scenario.

Great to see that you appear to have finally nailed that issue 🚘😎. Was checking one of your previous uploads (about what may kill off the Classic car within next 20 years) & really enjoyed that too. I suspect the biggest factor (like with the demise of Steam locomotives) is that those with old school Mechanical skills are dying out - Fitters are not the same! Great content. As a former car dealer I have seen many things. Your video reminds me of a common issue. You can take your car to the "specialists" and the dealer only to end up with the situation you demonstrate. All these experts couldn't diagnose the problem. It took a talented logical individual to dig down and sort out what was really going on. I have seen dealers replace almost an entire electrical system without even fixing the problem. Then I had a neighbor go through the car only to find the problem was a cheap plastic piece. Shops are only as good as their mechanics. And in a dealership of 40 technicians I find that really only two or three were masters. The rest were parts changers.

Yay! Congrats on solving the problem. I'm currently doing similar with my Porsche 944 (documenting with a video series on my channel.)

I'm actually selling my rare Porsche to someone today ,just because I don't drive it. When you took the carb apart and solved the plunger issue and then you put it back together and then the plug was dirty again. I knew it needed the screw adjusted. That's what I would have done next . I was going to comment and mention it to you but you figured it out . I'm happy for you. I hope you have other videos coming on that fine piece of machinery .
