Things got so messed up that when Murad heard that Agha of Janissaries fomented the Janissaries as well as the spais (Spahis) of the Porte against him, he dismissed the Agha of leisure and Nurbanu also convinced him to dismiss Vizier Sinan Pasha as well who long ago paid homage to Safiye. Since Safiye joined the fray of power, collaborating with but often acting again Nurbanu and her allies.

I find it amazing how these girls all knowingly choose their predisessors. Hurrem choose Mirhimah to be her substitue and choose Nurbanu to be the next Hurrem, Mirhimah choose Safiye, and Safiye choose Kosem. She kept everyone quiet about her husband’s death until her son come to the city. She is the first (and I guess the only) women to be buried in the emperor’s tomb. She maintained peace with Venice and France. Ambassadors mentioned her as a powerful queen in their letters. She died naturally when she get old. The emperor himself joined her funurel and carried her coffin. Safiye’s name wasn’t even known before her death.
