Thank you for showing your care and compassion for us moms that lost babies. I truly appreciate it. I lost my son to Potter Syndrome and had a missed miscarriage of twins and losing a bby is the hardest thing to go through. And it's tougher knowing you are unable to bring them home or for them to stay at home. But I have to say the nurses who took care of me and my husband were amazing and went above and beyond for both of us. We appreciated the nurses like you that show care and compassion during that tough time.❤️💙

Nurse Zabe I’m 34 weeks with my rainbow baby. I’ve only been pregnant 3 times and my first two was missed miscarriages. I wish my OB who I’ve had for all three over the past year was this kind. He made me feel like none of my pregnancies or worries mattered which is why I no longer see him and transferred. He even tried to tell me it would be no big deal if I had my baby in the car on the way to see him and made jokes about babies dying. He never let me know my blood type and that I needed the rhogam shot until I brought it up. He just expected me to know things. So your videos have helped me know what to ask and what to expect because he never discussed anything with me. I love your videos and I’m so glad you make them!

When I delivered my stillborn daughter, my labor nurse was absolutely amazing. She went above and beyond. When the photographer still had not shown up by that evening, she went home and got her camera, took pictures, and a few weeks later she gave us an envelope of the pictures she took, edited, and printed...all on her own dime and time. At such a very dark time in my life, she was a tremendous blessing. I will never forget her. ❤ Thank you, to all l&d nurses, who too many forget that they go through these sorrows with us.

“Will the labor nurses be receptive to different pushing positions?” It’s very sad that we even have to ask this question 😔 In a normal, uncomplicated delivery a mom should always be allowed to push in whatever position feels right. I have a friend who recently gave birth, and while pushing she wanted to be on her hands & knees but the nurses told her no and pushed her back down when she tried to move, and then held her down so she couldn’t move at all the whole rest of delivery. It’s absolutely disgusting that women are sometimes treated like that. When hospital staff don’t let a woman trust her own body and do what feels natural.
@TheRavensNest5 жыл бұрын
That is horrible! Poor woman!

It is sad that we have to ask this question. And I so feel for your friend. That is not appropriate for a nurse to do to any (but especially an unmedicated) woman!
@carson5515 жыл бұрын
With my first I had to stay in an uncomfortable position to give birth as their hospital policy. I was unmediated. My hospital this time let’s any mom with out an epidural give birth how it feels natural whatever that position is. My advice is ask the hospital a head of time. Some hospitals even offer birth classes. I took one a couple months ago at the hospital I will deliver at. It was great because one of their l&d nurses taught it. She told us all of their policies, what to expect, things that could happen, how to know when your in labor, how to time contractions, what she and her coworkers will want you to know, questions they will ask you, I could easily ask any questions I had, and I got tour the hospital. I would check with the hospital you are delivering at and ask questions. See if they offer a birthing class. If they do, take it!
@gabriellel44965 жыл бұрын
Not Of This World do you have to pay for birthing classes?
@carson5515 жыл бұрын
G L It was $15. So yes but it was worth it. Not all hospitals make you pay though. Just ask and see because every hospital is different.

Regarding csection rates, it is important to review these with reference to "level" of hospital. High risk mamas might end up at a tertiary / level 4-5 hospital to manage risk and might also be more likely to need a csection. In these cases a high csection rate is more explainable and less worrisome.
@Cabbage-dk6nu4 жыл бұрын
Seconded- the hospital right behind my house has the largest perinatal care department in the area. Many to most high-risk mamas in the county end up there, so yep, it has a much higher c section rate than other hospitals in the area!

As a pregnant mom to an angel who was born at 34 weeks and 5 days with hydrops fetalis, I can both empathize with moms who have not suffered loss and become nervous around this time, and believe in the importance of awareness of advocacy for our community. This is such a great video. The hospital where I delivered my son had a high rate but my delivering doctor still tried everything he could before going to a c section. It did have an entire IBCLC unit so at least one was on the floor during work hours and all nurses had extra training. The hospital I'm looking into for when #2 comes along is VBAC friendly and has nitrous oxide which are huge factors for me. They also are friendly for midwives, doulas, etc.

As someone who lives in a part of the world where circumcision is not at all common, I can tell you that it is an unnecessary procedure and absolutely nothing changes regarding quality of life for the child/man. I wish I had known these things when I had my first born, my 6yr old son. I was rushed into an emergency c-section & had many complications, too much air was pushed into his lungs & his right lung was punctured & he had to resuscitated, among other issues. My son was rushed to a NICU about an hour away & I was unable to be transported with him, so we were separated the 1st week of his life & he spent 28 days in the NICU

The hospital I delivered at was a ta women's Pavillion where it is attached to the main hospital but it is in its own building with its own entrance you go through. Also, they do not have a nursery for little ones to go in so the babies do roam with you in your room. My little one was born almost a month early with my water breaking at home so after birth, he was whisked away to NICU. But after some time of recovering in my delivery room right before settling into my recovery room I was able to do an hour skin to skin in the nicu. It was a hard time but I got through it and now we make up for it all the time just bonding and kissing all the time. A healthy 21 month old boy.

First of all-- I LOVE your videos! You are amazing and I wish you could be my l and d nurse! I have to say, though, that the information on how to "choose" a hospital doesn't apply to everyone. For many of us in the US we don't have any options. We have to go to the hospital that our insurance allows us to go to. For me that is a very small rural hospital with poor care, a bad reputation, and a history of disciplinary action against many of the doctors and nurses who practice there. My own OB is great, and if he is the doctor on call I will be very comfortable there. I'd just like to point out that choosing the best available healthcare is not an option for many of us. My only recommendation is to have a bulldog of a support person to stand up for you. I absolutely adore Nurse Zabe (and the new name!) and I wish all l and d nurses were like you!

Hello. Can you make a video on your experience becoming a labor and delivery nurse? How you chose your field, what school(s) you went to, the credentials, etc... Thank you!

Thanks for this video! I'm switching to a new doctor and hospital and going on my hospital labor/delivery tour in a couple weeks and it's nice to have some ideas what to ask!!

Your intro made me tear up. I have lost 3 babies but all in the 1st trimester. I had some terrible bleeding with my 1st in 2014 and had to go to the ER for an injection to slow the bleeding. But the ultrasound tech was so nice. She gave me a new gown and helped me clean up and put a new sheet on the bed. I kept apologizing bc I was bleeding everywhere during the ultrasound and I felt bad that she had to clean it up. But she was so incredibly nice and sweet. I know I made my er nurse uncomfortable bc she was very obviously pregnant and I know she was trying to be considerate of me and my feelings. I feel bad that she was uncomfortable, I wish she could've read my mind and known that I was happy for her and not upset by her being pregnant at all. My other miscarriage was in December 2018 and my 3rd was actually a couple of months ago. I am 18 weeks pregnant with a little boy but I was pregnant with identical twin boys and lost one in the first trimester. My best friend was 18 weeks pregnant when she delivered her daughter who had passed away at 15 weeks. The hospital cremated all the babies and the parents could either get the ashes back or if they chose not to then the hospital has an angel in the local cemetery where they spread the ashes. I am a nurse and I used to want to be an l&d nurse bc most of the time it's pretty happy. But I have a soft spot for all children and I'm not sure I would be a good nurse during the hard times. I'd prob cry just as much or more than the parents. But at least I know my limitations.

i wish i had asked/known some of these things before picking my OB/where i deliver. i love my doctors and i trust them but this is good information. i especially wish i had known to ask about the NICU level.

We delivered at a baby friendly hospital and it was terrible. I didn’t feel I was getting her enough milk trying to breastfeed. They refused to allow me to give her formula and tried to guilt me for even talking about it. Turns out she can’t get a good latch because of my cursed tiny nipples and was not getting enough. Definitely will be doing it different with baby number 2

Having 3 people in the room sounds amazing! Where I'm from we're only allowed 1 so thats obviously usually your husband or partner so we can't have doulas present 😟 though on the other hand I could see my mother in law trying to fight her way in and I wouldn't be comfortable with that, I also wouldn't be comfortable telling her to get out either. We also don't have nurseries anymore unless there is something wrong. I feel terrible for the ones who've had a c section, their husbands are gone home (dads can't stay at night) and they're left with this little baby to care for when they can't even move. I've seen some nice midwives though take them into the office for a few hours and care for them if they aren't too busy. It's always interesting seeing the differences in countries, some I prefer here others I don't. The biggest one being nowhere for the dads to stay, our hospitals were all built in the time of birth being a woman only thing and the men waited downstairs so the rooms are pretty small.

My hospital was 1 person, regardless of vaginal or c-section (but 0 for me, since I had to go under general anesthesia) and a limit of 2 (plus your partner) in postpartum.

In some birth and delivery videos I've seen on youtube, the hospital doesn't allow the labouring mother to eat while there so maybe also ask about that.

On the flip side of the support person limit, moms can ask medical staff to turn away visitors if you only want one person...

Rip angel babies. I myself had three miscarriages. Now i have 3 IVF children. My first born son is almost 2 and my boy/girl twins are 3 weeks old. It was a long journey to get my rainbow 🌈 babies. But with god anything is possible.

I lost my first baby October 11 last year in my first trimester. Tiny or otherwise that baby means the world to me. I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy due December 3rd. I am both ecstatic and terrified simultaneously.
