I know I'm years late, you probably won't see this. I backpacked a lot and what we would do is take the whipes and dry them out, put them in a ziplock baggy. Then you can rehydrate them. Saves a lot of weight for a full sized pack, and doesn't take a lot to rewet them. They don't work quite as well, but still work well.

I recommend nuts (nothing on them) as bug out food. Two packs of 200g will give you about 2500 cal. When you add things like Erbswurst, instant noodle soup or the small "canned" sausages or jelly (hotel versons) you get up to more than 3k cal pretty fast for around 500g.... and it tastes good. A jar or two of peanut butter can feed you a long time also.

Nutn, love what ya do but DITCH THE SAFETY GLASSES!!! Go with goggles. When 9/11 happened, anyone with glasses still got fiberglass and dust in their eyes. Go with a decent quality goggle that will keep the dust out. Plus, a sandstorm in the desert will blind you if ya wear glasses, so protection with goggles is superior. If you live in the desert, there is no way to avoid carrying a day's worth of water (or more). My own kit gets updated and changed with the environment and I make seasonal changes every three months (summer kit, fall/spring kit and a winter kit).

I like your choice of knife. It's a pretty versatile choice. I prefer a Mora knife, but I also include a folding saw, and a drywall hammer. A drywall hammer is so versatile. It has a 14 oz head so it weighs in at about 22 oz You have a hammer face which has obvious utility, as well as a hatchet blade. Sharpen the hatchet blade to taste, so you can easily limb saplings to make poles, even fell saplings. In a pinch, it is a decent weapon that most folks won't find threatening at first glance. They are as expensive as you want them to be. I have an Estwing, cos once upon a time, it helped put food on the table, but a cheap, functional DW Hammer starts at about $15

17:38 You can carry a Vortex *Micro* 3X magnifier, it has a *QD* ability (detaching/reattaching won't affect zero as it's a magnifier) Works as a scope, works as a monocular. Pair up with a Vortex Crossfire red dot, it's *420g / 14,75oz* (9.55oz for the magnifier + 5.2oz for the red dot) The weight you save on a monocular far outweighs having a scope on your rifle + a stand-alone separate binocular/monocular.

Couple points about MREs. 1. They make cold weather ones, or they did when I was still at Ft Drum back to 2010. They may cost more, but they also have more calories. 2. Yes, MOST IMPORTANT- while MRE’s out of the box are bulky, that doesn’t mean you have to leave it that way when you roll out. Even if you still decide you gotta bring everything down to the chewing gum, breaking it down will still leave a smaller footprint than stuffing the whole brick into your ruck sack or your pack. If you decide to strip it down, you can take all your entrees down to the foil envelope, and stuff them into a ziplock bag of the appropriate size. You can do this with everything-sides, deserts, drink powders. Get rid of the cardboard boxes. The brown envelope they come I can take the place of a ziplock but importantly, just don’t leave it all packages as is. 3. Heaters? They’re nice, but if evasion is a consideration, they put off a smell, and they can be a waste of precious water- keep that in mind when you’re stripping your MRE. They’re so small that it might not matter to you. 4. Bring some gum! It’s a laxative if you swallow it, and extended MRE consumption WILL stop you up. Hope this helps someone

What are your thoughts on adding a suppressor to your firearms setup? A rim-fire can would only add a couple of ounces and not much bulk. Your Smith's barrel is already threaded, just needs a readily available adapter to run a can. I love the papoose, and I'm sure it could be threaded without too much trouble, but other take-down/survival models are available from the factory with threaded barrels. Even with just one suppressor that can be attached to either firearm, you are gaining a lot of capability for what it adds to your system.
@rivercityracer36833 жыл бұрын
As far as MRE's for bug out/get home systems, what I do is use 10x12 mylar bags for tight packaging. One single 10x12 mylar bag can fit the main course, side, snack, dessert etc., from two MRE's. I put at minimum one 300cc oxygen absorber in the bag, squeeze as much air out as you can, and seal the top of the bag shut with a hair straightener, as you would for storing rice and beans and etc., in mylar. One 10x12 mylar bag with two MRE's in it will fit in the top pouch of a typical camelback, the pouch that straps down over top of the water bladder lid thing.

One thing I've noticed in a lot of BoB's is a total lack of maintenance items. No blade sharpeners, no oil to re-coat carbon blades in after use, no weapon cleaning kits, no gun lube. In a WROL/SHTF situation your kit's gonna get dirty fast, and any blades you're using will start dulling with heavy use.

Nutn: Thanks for sharing your kit! Don't forget that Hydrogen Peroxide decomposes rapidly once you open the bottle. Even in a sealed bottle it will only last 2 years at a maximum, but once opened, it only lasts a few months at most. That peroxide you've got there is just water unless you bottled it, like, last week. Just buy a small bottle of peroxide, keep it sealed, and store it in the kit for a year, then haul it out and use it. PS: Have you considered a bicycle option for bugging out? I honestly don't remember you ever saying anything about a survival bicycle, and if there's a video about them, it doesn't show up in search. You can add an extra wheel and store a whole lot of weight on a bike, or set up a trailer for a canoe. Bicycles make transporting a canoe (no, not a kayak) a piece of cake. I love the Bicycle/Canoe combo because they both hold so much extra weight, and you're able to go pretty much anywhere, even the ocean, with the right choices. with the right setup, you can tow your canoe behind the bicycle, and then load the trailer and the bicycle into the canoe to cross rivers and still have enough room left over for another person, their gear, and a hundred pounds of your own gear. And even a cheap canoe can have a sail rigged up for it, if you want to go that far.

One suggestion, (med bag) bright red and white tape, maybe fashioned into the EMT/FA cross, so if you are unconscious, it will be easy for others to find, to save your life. As a side note, love your work. Favorite video(s), BorN, The Air Force series. Thank you for sharing. Tom PS- barter items?

I think the optimal situation in a societal collapse is an Oklahoma style underground hurricane shelter(On your current residential property, not effected by your house burning down, fewer people around you the better) optimally on higher land encase flooding with (optimally) two air filtration systems that has an incredibly strong door and incredibly strong locks and the entrance can be hidden extremely well, with the goal to recreate a temporary "Amish" self-sustained way of living with vegetable seeds/water/water source/long expiration food/etc with optimally 3 to 6 people with designated roles(optimally trusting as few people as possible that are not in your family). Whos plan for societal collapse isn't "go inna woods"? Walking around unknown land gets you shot (People wouldn't be prepared - a lot of desperate & scared people - nothing good can come from them seeing full backpacks and carried supplies, having visible firearms increases the probability of being shot on sight - assume you would be seen as a threat because they wouldn't know your intentions and guns would be worth more to them in their hands than yours), being shot without experienced medical professionals has a very high mortality rate, particularly rifles. Walking around with added weight burns precious calories and makes you sweat which dehydrates you faster(minimize as much as possible.). Forget bartering as a concept unless you are desperate. Assuming the worst gives your family the highest probability of surviving.

Every bit the truth. I was just listening to going home series by Weatherman your list has a lot in common just not the exact same brand items. A lot of what your doing is location dependant and that makes your point of view significant. There is a lot to be learned from you and a lot to learn from Weatherman's list. A lot of folks don't like lists but a list allows the transfer of exact details but that what I like I'm a grown up with an odometer that turned over a few times so ithink with a lists from a few sources I can make my own choices, if I'm wrong I'll live with the choices I make.

You can add Under Armour to that list as well...... all they care about is $$$, no ethics and have chose outlandish, immature, and out of touch athletes over the common hunter or outdoors-man (or woman).

@@Verilioness True but, their stuff has been foreign made for a long time now. Same with Carhartt sadly as I sold their product for many years and watched the kids of the founders move most of that companies manufacturing outside the USA as most textiles did in the 80s and 90s
